bob ross is a straight up OG bawss! back in the 80s when only like super richy people had cable tv, i used to watch him on pbs almost every day when i was a kid lol. so weird i can't paint to save my life but watching him do it was like idk like watching fish in an aquarium. or a kewler version of one of those relaxation tapes they sell at weird new age hipster shops or something lol. he just had this awesome way of letting you know you can be great at anything if you took your time and worked on it.. he died when i was 16 n i'm still kinda pissed about it.
anyway long story short pretty much every kid that grew up in the 80s at least knew who this guy was. we used to refer to him as "the pbs painter guy" though lol.

if it makes you feel better i didn't know until like 10 years later cuz i never new his name lol. when i found out i was like "bob....who? awww man! the painter guy!? damn!" xD"

Hey Carey- Thanks for the vids. I put together an i5 system after watching a few of your build videos.
And then I turned it on the first time and...it worked! Perfectly.
Took me a couple hours from start to finish (unpacking, etc.). The hardest damn part was the i/o shield. Was preventing the mobo from sitting right. Luckily brute force didn't break it and it snapped into place. All is well.
Just carried over my old 750gtx ti graphics card. Am so glad I did, cause the 1070 and 1080 nvidias are coming in a couple weeks. And seem reasonably priced for being kick ass.
Appreciate the virtual help and in-depth of your vids.

It will be nearly a year since i installed my inspired by Carey Holzman case badges on my 2 PC cases, so its time for a clean up. Carey has inspired me to take very good care of my PC's internal wire management so i will strip out and redo them both to the same very high standard shown here by Carey. Its great to see you back in the kitchen.

    Hi Mr. Holzman,
I'm very thankful for your videos and your fun, precise teaching style.
In preparation for my very first gaming build, I've been watching a lot! Buying a couple components at a time to ease the blow on my wallet, but I received the first shipment containing the case and RAM today! Very excited!
Just wanted to say thank you. You're a great builder and a great teacher!

I bought a Corsair 200R to replace a smaller case. The 200R was $50, and is so easy to build in. It is minimalist, and totally functional with the ability to make changes easily in the future. Thanks for recommending this case so often, you convinced me.

It's amazing to see how far we've come with hard drives. That M.2 drive is even thinner than a stick of ram for a laptop. I can't wait to start my first PC build soon. Well Carey I've finally started to get the parts to build my first computer. The one I have now(a Gateway) is just not up to doing the little I want to do, mostly internet surfing and watching videos, with almost no gaming at all. The only thing I'm going to add to your parts list is multi-port PCI USB 3 card and delete the optical drive. I currently use external HDs (USB 3) for storage. Thanks for the inspiration,Vester

    Thanks Mr. Holzman.
I used this video to build myself a totally different Linux machine, but the basic idea was the same.
The most important part for me was the explanation about the stands below the motherboard. It's interesting how such an important and potentially costly matter is not resolved.

On the part about grounding, I see a lot of information saying it's good to clip your anti-static wrist band to a PSU that is plugged in but off.
These are all user comments though, I've yet to find any information that can be backed up by testing, but I only looked for 5 minutes.
There appears to be a lot of dissenting opinions on this topic, I've noticed that with how to apply thermal paste too.

Another great video. With all these M.2 drives or regular SSD's I'm starting to feel my next build will be M-ATX. Don't need these huge cases anymore. Even for a gaming rig, as long as you don't do SLI. Even then, M-ATX cases can handle SLI.

Wow, right down to sticker placement, that's what I call a comprehensive guide! Thumbs up. I would encourage first timers to look up and down the hardware spectrum to see if upgrades or downgrades are worth it. IE this build, is the i5-6600 worth it to me to spend 20% more over the i5-6400 (maybe)? Is it worth an extra $15 to double the hard drive space (probably). Again, an awesome guide and would recommend for first timers. (PS I've sent out computers with the logitech dongle too :) )

We handle call on the phone and we have Remote access with Team Viewer 11 but we must keep call average around 20 minutes and most we can be on a call is around 1hr. Your great videos make me want to build about 10 PCs. At my age I better stick to watching these videos. As a teen in 1968, I built a tube multi-band radio kit. I still have it. It finally went to noise a few years ago likely because the large capacitor has failed. Those were the days when capacitors; diodes; resistors, and transistors were objects handled and soldered into a circuit board and you did not worry about static when handling them. Who could have imagined the future! In 1968 I was smugly confident I could master electronics. Not so, said time.

+DOLRED And I bet you used a Heath Kit like I did? Good old days indeed!

Ah, It was an Allied Radio sold kit. The radio is labeled "Knight" "Star Roamer." Bought it at Allied Radio---a local electronics store--the biggest store in our town.

Very nice video Carey. I do prefer your kitchen videos to the "more polished" NewEgg videos. Those are great too but I still like the personal touch you give to your home videos. I was glad to see a workstation build finally also. I am wondering the reasoning for using a micro ATX board verses a standard ATX. There is a ton of room in the case.

+Geo Johnson There is no M-atx case with dual front port usb 3 and no case door available for less money than the 200R and, for the reasons I explained in the video and in the video notes.

+CareyHolzman Carey, I wasn't questioning the use of the Corsair 200R case. I was questioning the selection of the micro ATX motherboard instead of using a standard ATX board. It there a significant cost difference, or is there another reason? Thanks for responding to me. I know how you love that case ;-)

+Geo Johnson :) Especially without the need for a dedicated graphic card, or aftermarket cooler, a micro ATX was the best option. A standard ATX would only take more space without giving nothing more in return. Have a good day. :)

+Bobby Need: Hello Bobby. Yes, I have not missed one of Carey's build videos. Have viewed every one...they are also great. Carey and I have a very similar work ethic.

Very nice build, I benefited learning a lot from your presentation along as well you did not rush through demonstration explaining the build thoroughly step by step.

I agree completely. I'm continually exasperated by those rushed instructionals, people with an easy familiarity acting as if viewers have the same easy familiarity, blowing thru the narration with a disregard for the easily confused newbie that borders on disgusting arrogance, so I frequently come away from the vid quite irritated due to the many more questions raised than I'd had in the first place. I want to know exactly what to do, and exactly how to do it, and this is done in his videos. Carey patiently explains the steps and reasoning every time, and I can't emphasize how much that is appreciated. Great, great work, Carey. I'm awaiting the parts for my first complete build, because of your inspiration.

How long would the build take if you were not filming for your TH-cam video? My guess, not too long. Pretty straight forward build, no extras to take extra time.
Glad to see your builds back on your channel. I watch the NewEgg videos too and like them very much.
In all your builds, where you show the parts, you never mention a keyboard and mouse. You always use your own wireless keyboard and mouse. In "store bought" systems, a keyboard and mouse are almost always included with the system. For your new builder fans, you should recommend a keyboard and mouse. Just a thought.

How do I send a video to him?
I really wana thank him and show him my first PC build, after years of using laptops and was too worried the complications of both budget & building a custom pc.
