  • Dave Graham-Woollard came up with this idea of creating knees with ligaments that could be loosened to demonstrate the role of each ligment in a different form of stbility of the knee. We 3D printed knees and used nylon cord with detachable toggles to simulate the ligaments. After feedback from students this year I've been working on version 2.0 for the next knee anatomy week.

    I know some teachers and professors that are thinking/saying "Since I learnt these with only textbooks and drawings, students should be able to do it so..." and they simply don't try to improve education with extra materials. I'm thankful that I was able to learn anatomy with models. But nobody would go so much further to 3D print models to try and teach better. May not sound like much but it really is "much" actually.

    Great informative video. Your teaching ability is second to none, your presentations are always presented in a cool, calm and collective manor. Never a truer word spoken when you stated "we are all continually learning". if your videos gets us none medically minded people enthralled and captivated your efforts must be well received and beneficial to the medical students they are aimed at. Your videos must be very helpful for students to study and recap on issues/details they may have missed at one of the lectures they attend.
    Keep up the good work Sam as it's your efforts in teaching our future medical professionals who then go on to help us all, and as In my case saved my life.

    Hi Sam,
    After watching your Inguinal Hernia A&P video, I decided to see what else you’ve done. You have some really great content.

    Sam, shoot in 25p (PAL) to avoid flashing lights visible at 4:51. If this footage is from iPhone go to Settings - Camera - Record Video; toggle Show PAL formats; set the video to 1080 at 25 or 4k at 25. Same stuff should be on android if that’s your cup of tee.
    It’s less important when shooting with professional camera (like in your awesome anatomy videos; I’m a big fan for years): you can shoot 24p without any problem if shutter speed is 50. But with smartphones or GoPros there is no option of shutter speed, hence the required 25p or 50p frame rate.

      I accidentally nudged my shutter speed to 1/80s. it was 1/50s for the rest of the video at 24fps.

    Can you print sections for your small boat then glue them together, applying a epoxy layer for the hull to make it safe.
    You have the power at your fingertips.

    May I know the name and model of this 3D printer? Thank you very much, because I would also like to give it a try!

    i like the model, but it makes me wonder what the knee cap does???????, for it seems to function without one

      I believe it moves to help create leverage for the joint. It would be great if Sam could add this as well as the cartilage.

    • @SamWebster
      @SamWebster  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The knee cap pushes the tendon away from the pivot point of the joint, increasing the force that can be applied by the muscle through leverage. It also protects the knee joint when kneeling, and we often see sesamoid bones like the patella forming within tendons when they run over a hard structure.

    hi
    I have a question regarding the anastomosis in the elbow joint.
    does the superior ulnar collateral artery anastomose with other arteries before it's connected with the posterior ulnar recurrent artery?

    • @SamWebster
      @SamWebster  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The superior, inferior and posterior ulnar collateral arteries will usually all link up in some way or another. This arrangement is a little bit variable but you could say that the superior ulnar collateral artery anastomoses with the inferior ulnar collateral artery before becoming the posterior ulnar collateral artery.
