I think Vertigo has one of the best movie scores in history. Bernhard Herrmann was a genius, and thank you for posting your awesome version. I had never listened to scene D'amour on piano before. It really is encapsulating!
Love film scores that you can listen to without watching the film. I don't get the pleasure in listening to scores for high intensity moments without watching the moving.
Rather gorgeous playing. My favourite film (which is an understatement) and probably the greatest film score of all time. You do it real justice. Thanks for sharing it with us
A flop at the time of its release, Vertigo was considered a bizarre artistic failure and forgotten for many years. Television showings brought it a new generation of fans. It was really the "film-school" generation of Truffaut and all that first understood the genius of the film and called it Hitch's best film. Not only is it in retrospect Hitchcock's best (and an unconscious introspection at how he sought to transform every actresses he worked with after Grace Kelly's retirement from acting into a copy of her), Vertigo is one of cinema's greatest masterpiece.
EXTRAORDINARY BALANCE & CONTROL. YOUR CRESCENDO IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION & YOUR PLAYING CREATES IMAGERY IN THE DEPTH OF ONE'S IMAGINATION. THANK YOU FOR POSTING.
I've been listening to you play this song for years now. I'm sure a few thousand of these views are mine. Absolutely brilliant. I get chills everytime. You are a true master. I've purchased the sheet music from the link as well....I hope that, one day, if I could play this half as well as you, I can die a happy man. Thanks for the brilliant performance!!!!!
I never thought that sweeping Wagnerian score of the great Bernard Hermann could be transposed to piano, incredible. Hitchcock himself had vertigo and was obsessed with the look of his actresses. Kim Novak said in an interview that he had the hair stylist on the set working on her throughout the film. The film is great in a rather twisted way, I think it's because there are many fetishistic aspects to it which are deeply personal to the director. What's truly amazing is he made it with major stars and a massive budget! Hitchcock's films would not be nearly as great without the amazing Bernard Hermann. I don't think any film composer is his equal, and Vertigo is his best.
It's so refreshing to know that other people feel the way I do about Bernard Herrmann. I adore him. Small wonder that he composed 6 scores for Alfred Hitchcock.
Indeed! The best film composer. Sorry Max Steiner, John Williams. Several favorites. My most favorite of his music for Obsession, (chorus, organ and orchestra) amazing.
Just perfection! Thanks so much for uploading this video for all to enjoy and congratulations again on your remarkable performance of this Bernard Herrmann masterwork.
firenze55 Most excellent observation. A Liszt transcription of a Wagner Opera perhaps. The piece is inspired by Tristan & Isolde. th-cam.com/video/ugY9CQeeNaA/w-d-xo.html Btw, ho studiato a Firenze. It is my favorite city in the world.
@@VetteMAE2 Completely agree and agree about the Tristan und Isolde (Wagner) inspiration. So beautiful. BTW, Firenze is my favorite small city in the world, too. ;)
Really? Congrats! It’s very beautifully played on. I suggest you put your name on the credits as performers are sometimes neglected on this kind of musical medium
SOMETIMES I'm embarrassed to say this, ...BUT(!) VERTIGO IS MY "SECOND" FAVORITE MOVIE; My first (favorite) movie IS Casablanca! Hitchcock ALWAYS bombs me (Rebecca, ...To Catch a Thief [which literally single-handedly made the French Riviera famous], ...Foreign Correspondent, Notorious, ...), ...BUT (!) I literally hate Psycho; to me it's the worst movie he made; people ALWAYS spoil it for me saying that "...YOU MUST BE SCARED AT THIS OR THAT SCENE..." ruining the effect Hitch meant.

Glad you enjoyed it!
This arrangement captures the orchestral sound perfectly.
great piece, played with great skill
It takes a special pianist to make you appreciate the silence between the notes

Thank you so much. This was part of a pbs show I made in 2014. The show Broadway to Hollywood aired again on turner classic movies in May.
I'd love to work out a version for my main instrument, the classical guitar, now I know it is possible 😉
This is the most simple and powerful version of this song I've ever heard.
Forgot to add....Richard your playing is exceptional! Never say die!
Absolutely beautiful rendition of this classic - played to perfection! Bravo!

Yes for all you say about Bernie !
Absolutely beautiful.
Absolutely wonderful arrangement of this amazing composition and fantastic performance.Congratulations,bravo.
Very nice arrangement, very well played. I was skeptical that this piece could functionally operate on solo piano, but the essence was captured.
It's so refreshing to know that other people feel the way I do about Bernard Herrmann. I adore him. Small wonder that he composed 6 scores for Alfred Hitchcock.
This is great! I love Bernard Herrmann! Excellent playing!
The best music for the best movie. The best composer of film music, for the best director and filmmaker.
Agree 100 % with every statement!

The chord right at 2:06 kills me. So powerful!!
And John Williams used it to such great effect, too!
Hoped to find this on iTunes but couldn’t 😩
It’s on my cd Broadway to Hollywood which you can find on iTunes.
