Every time I drive it I swear to god at some point during the drive I say out loud "Fuck I love this car"
would like to see you drive a LCI model when you can! doubt it'll feel like true drivers car but they made changes as you noted. to be honest i dont think any of these big sedans/wagons are drivers cars except maybe CT5V Blackwing.
They used to be great driver's cars before they got loaded up with tech, unneeded weight, and ungainly proportions/styling. I'd say the E60 was the last great M5.
@malcolmn.5222 Edit - did you think he meant real driver like a person? If so, he meant "real driver's car". Hydraulic steering, manual gearbox, etc. It's feeling like you're actually driving the car without layer upon layer of electronic controls and intervention.
Everything said about the dynamics of driving in corners, numb steering, and too stiff of a suspension described the same exact feeling i have about my M240i xdrive!!😂
the e39 m5 isn't all that lighter. It has soft suspension, lots of body roll in the corners, skinny tires, and even though the steering is hydraulic, the feel isn't there. Through the corners it's much worse than this newer one. I know it's a popular thing to say that the older car is always more fun than the newer one, but that isn't always the case.
@edwint1780 Wrong...I've driven it. Keep reading the #s on spec sheets and basing your opinions on that. Edit - depends on your priorities. I prefer the feel of the car over the numbers it puts up. Yes, any F90 will spank an E39 on paper and some will always equate that as "better". For me, it's simply not as much fun to drive as an E39, and I stand by that.
The F90 has been on my shortlist for about 2 years and my wife surprised me when we went on a trip to Vegas earlier this year, with an F90 m5 rental. I was very excited as I would have the car for 5 days. Long story short I agree with Zygrene. It only took two days of driving for me to realize that I could not live with this car day to day. The ride was horrendous in normal driving. When in the winding sections outside of Vegas, it was better. I too noticed the lack of connectivity between my senses and what the car was doing or what was going to happen. Now this would probably change if I owned the car as I would have more time to train my brain on what would happen in certain situations and conditions. The speed is addictive, the sounds from the MPerformance exhaust were intoxicating, but the handling around town was so jarring that I was actually annoyed for the last two days. There was one other issue with the F90 and that was the trunk space. It appears decent size until you decide to put anything in there and you suddenly realize the center floor of the trunk is oddly shaped and that continues up the sides. Packing in a large suitcase, medium suitcase, two backpacks, and a Nuna stroller was simply not possible. We had to put the medium suitcase and backpacks (plus random groceries) in the back seat with the baby. This told me that this was not a four person road trip car. I currently own a 2011 Cayenne Turbo, which may make me spoiled in the handling department due to the fact that my Cayenne has PASM. I was very shocked of my experience with the F90 M5. Sacrificing some power and speed for more comfort in a large sedan is what I am leaning toward now. E63S or an Audi S6. Great review!
AMG is more stiff then M cars, I had a C63s and it was not fun anymore. Sold it and now I have a tuned M340i (estate, I live in Europe) and tuned its almost the animal the AMG was but without the V8 sound and much more comfort. I've drag raced a few stock M5's and most of the time we are just as fast until we get up to speeds where I can end up in jail.
@@orangejuice-xi3gt I'm optimistic about the driving dynamics. Not a big fan of the looks but that's subjective and might grow on me (G80 certainly did)

As an F90 owner how can you drive a car for a review and talk about it like an expert, all you guys on here dogging this car are guys that can't afford one and will never drive one.
The RS6 Avant being more dynamic is insane lol. It’s a bit newer but weighs more, makes the same power and has an “allegedly” inferior AWD system. And yet with all the electronics going on in the RS6, I’m surprised it drives BETTER Makes me want one even more ❤ Wonder how the G91 will be [rhe wagon] 👀
I’d be curious to get your option, Zygrene, and others: would you choose this F90 M5 or a G80 xDrive model as your only car? These are two I am considering. I’ve driven the G80. Loved it, but haven’t driven the F90
I turoed one of these from LA to Palm Springs and back for a work trip. I was a big fan and i thought i wouldn't like it, normally i stick to stuff 3000lbs and less
CT5 BW rides WAY better, is much more composed over mid corner bumps, has better steering feel and communication, and absolute handling limits, control, stability precision are all better. literally the only reasons to pick an M5 over the BW are AWD, the badge, and the interior.
Go check Nurburgring times for the F90. They run 7:30’s. Nothing to laugh at. Guess what else runs 7:30’s stock? lol G80 M3’s. F80’s stock run 7:50’s. lol
I remember watching The Grand Tour when this car came out. They echo the same sentiments. Fast in a straight line sure but forgettable everywhere else. The Comp is what the base M5 should have been. Best M cars of the F series generation BMW is the M2 CS and M5 CS. M3, M3 CS, M4, M4 GTS, M5, M5 Competition, and M6/M6 Competition are meh. Every G series M car is forgettable. IMO.
surprising, sounds polar opposite to the CS version of the same car. the best canyon carving full-size sedan is the GS F, but lacking in power compared to these.
This car is for red light racers and those who want to look like they have money even thought they bought it used after the huge depreciation from the several previous owners. 😂

Despite what people assume the F90 is not a track car, the CS is track focused
an F90 will destroy tires within 3 laps, its definitely not made for track, its track capable tho.
