    Good video. My gutter guy wants me to use aluminum gutter apron, but will I have to hand nail aluminum nails instead of coil roofing nails?

    I'm planning to refinish my old 2 car garage, it needs some TLC... Vinyl or Aluminum? I prefer Aluminum but it's harder to work with. ?!
    Kudos to you for doing yours! Winter now (USA) I'll do it in the spring. 😂 😂 I'm always looking for a reason to put it off.

    Looks like you have what's called a 2 x 6 (actually 1.5 x 2.5 inch) fascia board (which may have been cut at an angle to accommodate the slope of the roof) below your aluminum fascia trim. How did you size your aluminum fascia trim to fit the outer dimensions of the fascia boards? Where did you purchase the aluminum fascia trim?

  • @louissparks2496

    How long were those nails and were they aluminum?

  • @pauledwards514

    Tip for the nails: Hammer a little hole with an "ice pick". I used this method on my shed for nails and fascia screws. ... Tip #2: Working alone I also used gorilla tape to hold fascia in place until I got them secured.

      Generic fascia from a local place- no link unfortunately

      I make a 2' piece. Bend the return or reveal whatever you call it then bend the piece in half n just go up and cut to fit in place no measurements.

    Usually the bird boxes are bent separately from facia metal...that way you dont have to add that little 3 inch piece on the back. Just for future reference.

    I have a question, is it more cost effective to buy pre bent fascia and rake metal than to custom bend your own?

      Honestly no idea. Building materials were limited due to COVID and I worked with what I could get when I needed it. It’s my own garage and wouldn’t do this type of work for clients. This stuff was like $200 CAD for the whole garage. I can’t see a rake and straight fascia being cheaper.

    • @hsdesignstudio
      @hsdesignstudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen soffits done after siding/stucco. In theory, as long as the siding is stopped at the correct height, it shouldn't impact the soffits in anyway..at least that I can think of.

      Im building a shed and i like the look of siding tucking under the soffit, looks cleaner that way, but it creates a challenge to do the bird box

    • @hsdesignstudio
      @hsdesignstudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mrdubomb Do you need to have the birdbox look? You could always finish the siding/soffit in a more modern manner where the gable soffit extends to the main flat soffit, and a small piece of flashing fills the angle gap.

      Hahaha that's one way to do it 🤣

    • @hsdesignstudio
      @hsdesignstudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ I wasn't disagreeing on pre-drilling the holes- I totally see it making the process quicker. However, the 'tips' are not for professionals. They are aimed at the average homeowner, who has a much more likely change to bore out the hole too large or skate the drill bit across the surface. It isn't the fastest but I didn't ruin a single piece of fascia, just bent a few nails at the bottom corner 🤣

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hsdesignstudio not you, i was speaking to eric.. As i said, Ive worked siding for years, all over the place and have never heard of predrilling the face. Seems very very pointless as i mentioned and a waste of time

    • @hsdesignstudio
      @hsdesignstudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ ahhh gotcha, That makes way more sense. The only holes I can see pre-drilling are those bottom corners through three layers.

    • @kristopherhansen8768
      @kristopherhansen8768 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ I also have worked siding for years but I have seen countless people and countless crews that predrill the face. Literally takes 3 seconds. You arent bankrupting the company that’s such a shitty exaggeration. Rather my guys take a few seconds to predrill holes than to leave a bunch of pings all over the fascia

    Your hammer is too big. Go down a size. Move your hand up on your hammer when nailing fascia nails more control and you won't accidentally hit the fascia. 👍

    You need a bigger stepladder, smaller hammer. Dont cut the bottom off as it looks crooked, use a knife, and score it. Practice practice practice.

    Why wouldnt you just bend a corner box... would look 10x better

    • @hsdesignstudio
      @hsdesignstudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't get my hands on any at the time. It was pre-bent 10'ers or wait who knows how long for ordering. Like I said in another comment, I would have preferred if I didn't have to add the skinny layer, and instead it was all one piece around the corner.

    • @jjrock5
      @jjrock5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hsdesignstudio can you explain what this means? Do they sell prebent aluminum bird boxes? Thanks

    • @hsdesignstudio
      @hsdesignstudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jjrock5 what I mean is that my particular birdbox framing is taller than the depth of any fascia I could get my hands on. Therefore, I had to add the extra skinny piece around the top to cover the framing.
