Heavenly voice in a heavenly tune. The most amazing rendition of this song I've ever heard. This song can be found on Lea Salonga's "Songs from the Screen".
Lea was 18 when she played "Kim" in "Miss Saigon". it run in NY and London for 11 years after 4,200+ shows. She was 29 when she stepped down. She won many awards and open many doors in the theather industries for Asian performers.
Imagine a place so pristine and beautiful, the weather crisp and oh so comfortable, and you are at peace with yourself, and there is harmony and love all around. Lea's voice takes me there.
I love this singer. I saw her in Miss Saigon and love her treatments of the great standards. Her pitch is impeccable her tone is full and rich and you can understand all the words as the composer would have it. No gimmicks-just great musicality. I wish we could see and hear more from her.
I must agree Deva7 - this is a beautiful cover of this much beloved song. Lea Salonga has an exceptional gift and uses it to great effect on this track.
Truly a God-given talent.....superb rendition of this classic song and I thought I've heard it done magnificently by La Streisand until this version by our very own Lea Salonga.....words are not enough to fully describe the effect her voice has on the listeners.....I absolutely love this.
I saw her at Miss Saigon show in Boston - I sobbed like crazy... To hear her sweet voice again, check out "Miss Saigon Sun and Moon" performend when she was only 18 years old.
Just a gorgeous arrangement and Lea delivers a most poignant treatment full of emotion yet controlled and true to the original concept. I thought it was cool that the arrangement included the verse too. The dynamics and the control of the harmonies and expression is superb. 5 stars!
Okay you know how many times I listened to this song and by various Artist...THIS VERSION BEATS everyone and any version...LEA SALONGA is a Siren to my hears and she always haved too I mean HELLO MISS SAIGON...DISNEY lol :D Girl surprises me every time I listen to her
Lea Salonga and Agnetha Faltzkog of ABBA are two of the best female singers of all time. They have angelic voices that are so inspiring and enlightening!!! They remind me of the goodness and greatness of our Lord God Almighty!!! Lord Jesus Christ, thank you very much for Lea Salonga and Agnetha Falztkog!!! Thank you very much also for all of the gifted singers you have given us here on earth to remind us of your mercy and everlasting love!!!
Lea Salonga is from the Philippines. She's a well-known singer and a veteran of Broadway and West End. She did the original role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon, for which she won both the Tony and Laurence Olivier awards for best actress. She has also appeared as Eponine and then as Fantine in Les Miz.
hi.. what a nice voice ..charice and mrs. lea both have wonderful voice within....this song is great for the person who had a wonderful life.......from philippines ...reynald sumpay ...i'm listening while sitting and have tears in my eyes....tnx
Lea is Number 1 and her voice has continued to get better with age - just like fine wine - larry waldorf p.s. thank you for sharing your beautiful gift to brighten people's day. warmest regards, larry
Lea and Charice are blessings to our country. Nobody is perfect but it's their inborn gifts and rare talents than carry them and make them shine in the world stage. Let's just learn to appreciate what they're doing and not put down one so as to lift up the other. We should be very proud of both of these wonderful ladies. I love them both. =D
@jomigu09 Hahahahahaha. Aye I agree. I can never understand why people love it so. I did not like it much when Judy Garland sang it, but when Lea sang this song she just blew my mind away. No offense to Judy's lovers but my ears like Lea's version.
Totally agree with you,. When people here on TH-cam comments compared Karen Carpenter to Judy Garland, that's the 1st time I ve heard Judy's name and tried to figure it out and ended confused,. .. it's totally different to Karen,. Karen was so Angelic,.. Judy is just ordinary on my opinion ( sorry, no offenses, just try to be neutral and listen to them very careful) .. For me, Karen Carpenter and Lea Salonga is much better than Judy But among them... Still I pick Karen Carpenter .. 😍😍😍
@hermiemel you are absolutely right. i for one love charice but this rendition by ms. salonga is just amazing. it gives me goosebumps. hi from colombia! congrats to all these fantastic filipino singers!
Okay you know how many times I listened to this song and by various Artist...THIS VERSION BEATS everyone and any version...LEA SALONGA is a Siren to my hears and she always haved too I mean HELLO MISS SAIGON...DISNEY lol :D

@luvkcha09 totally agree with you. both lea and charice rendition of "over the rainbow" are awesome. they have this beautiful voice that is so hard to explain..brings this song to life..vibrant and fresh..
@ricefarmer i am sure you want to be appreciated for who you are and not compared to anyone because you are unique but i agree that lea sang this song magnificently
I would submit Jewel, who sang it in the jazz version of Wizard of Oz, before anybody knew who she was - very interesting phrasing. And of course, Sissel from Norway, who can do anything.
@squidgybun actually, if you do just a little bit of research (like simply checking IMDB.com or Wikipedia) you will see that Judy Garland was born in 1922 and The Wizard of Oz was released in 1939. This makes her 17, not anywhere close to 30.

The beginning was written after the movie.

The only 3 singers who can sing this song perfectly with different renditions..
1.Judy Garland
2. Lea salonga
and ofcourse
3. Charice Pempengco
Let's not compare Charice and Leah. They are both wonderful singers with angelic voice. Let's just be thankful that we can enjoy both of them.
She has a nice voice.
