The song was specially written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber for the film version of Evita and won an Oscar for "Best Original Song in a Film" in 1997.

I've always loved this song, but recently it's taken on a new meaning for me. I'm a recent amputee (right leg below the knee). I've been with my boyfriend for five years. Because of my own fears, there was a time while I was in the hospital, I expected him to leave. He has stayed by my side through everything, even though I know this hasn't been easy for him. I'm home now, and he loves me more than ever (if that's possible). Sometimes I don't understand why. In my darkest moments I genuinely feel I'm not good enough for him. We had plans and goals that we might never be able to achieve because my body isn't whole anymore. He loves me for who I am. Because of that, I'm willing to try harder in situations where I genuinely want to give up.

I pray that your love be stronger and that itll be able to stand and endure all the test itll face. Dont ever give up on him more so on yourself. You have someone who loves you and thats what matters. Itll be a bigger mistake to lose him all because of fears and insecurity. Love him back more. Thats what you should do.

Lea Salonga is a brilliant singer, she sings this song from the heart, you feel every word she says and it is reflected in the timbre of her voice. She has the emotion and the singing technique, ability and power to back it up.

You know what's good about this song? It was sang LIVE ... Close your eyes and you can feel and hear how sad and haunting she sounds... It penetrates deep in your soul especially how she sang the phrase " frightened you'll slip away , you must love me."
How the 2012 Les Miserables movie should have sounded when they insisted on doing live singing with actors who fell far short of Lea's talent.

The first time I heard this, it was on a jukebox where I was doing a piano bar. I played it again, and charted it out on a cocktail napkin. I loved it so much, I had to play it that very night! This arrangement is equally as good as Madonna, though I loved her in the role of Evita. It was the first time I really appreciated her immense talent. It's simply a beautiful composition.

after rewatching Aladdin, I agree with you. a lot can change vocally in 6 years. as she gets older, she can only get better. :)
You shouldn't consider this song part of the movie. It's a concert version and Lea once said she wants to make songs sound lighter for concerts. Lea performed this as a stand-alone song, not necessarily connected to the story of Evita. If you want comparisons that much, you should compare Lea's rendition to Madonna's live performance at the Oscars...Madonna's studio version may be nice, but she will never sing live as great as Lea does.

@gedot29 You are right Lea's voice is wonderful, but it didn't evoke emotion for me like Madonna's version. Perhaps because Madonna's mother died of cancer she connected more, but what ever reason Madonna's version was powerful.
