  • Most of us avoid the thought of sampling when we weave, citing the amount of 'waste' yarn that we would generate, let alone the time that we would waste too.
My answer to these arguments is to ask how much waste you would generate, and how much time you would waste if you started a project entirely on the wrong foot and it ended up as a complete disaster?
Sampling for weaving is NEVER a waste. If you learn something from your sample - whether good or bad, encouraging or discouraging, then the sample has served its purpose. If you can use that scrap of cloth to make something as a result of the sampling, then that is a bonus.
Please, don't avoid the sampling process, it can save a huge amount of materials, time and heartache. It could even go a long way to making sure that you NEVER fall out of love with your Rigid Heddle Loom.

Thank you for this❤. I needed to transfer to a smaller reed a while hack and the way i did it was much messier and inefficient to boot.

You're welcome Franscesca - it's a little bit finicky, but there's no reason why it can't be done quickly and efficiently.

New weaver here. You mentioned a "yarn wrap" can you elaborate about that please?

Glynis has made a short video demonstrating the yarn wrap, look back through her playlist 😊

Hi Polly - there is a video on my channel on yarn wraps - very useful thing to know how to do and use. Never an exact answer, but an excellent guideline.
