Most Turkish people do this in summer evenings :) Sitting outside with friends, playing something like a okey and drink tea or mineral water..
oh my dear lahmacun.. after 10 years of living in California, there isn't anywhere making such great street lahmacuns here.. All we get is armenian or arabic version with thich dough, not crispy and weird spices in it.. I WANT MY TURKISH LAHMACUN!

What a fun day and fun video!
I know a version of this game called 101. It's basically the same game as okey but you team up with the person in front and try to get rid of your stones quicker than the other team. The trick is for your pairs to have a total value of 101 or more. If you get to that point you showcase your sets and get rid of them. Once the stones in the middle run out or one team does an "okey", you tally up the numbers you have in the end and that becomes your score. Whichever team has the least score after x rounds of the game wins. I think it's much more enjoyable with the scoring system! You could try it sometime.
We play it in Turkey too
And there is another version named "Banko". I forgot the rules but it is more advanced and difficult if i remember correctly.

I literally hate parsley as it isn't much different than grass but with Lahmacun it goes so well, i put a ton of parsley into it!! And you are supposed to squeeze lemon on parsley as well so that grass thing would have more taste :))
I used to play tile rummy with my grandma in Oregon! How cool that the same game is played in Turkey. Love it that you have a social network across the world. You're our goodwill ambassadors! 😀

VERY close to rummy cube in the US!!! Just don't have the first part of the stacks and dice, but we take 14 to start with, you have to open with minimum 30 points, if you can't go, you pick a "stone", ends the same way. You can buy this in the US.

The Okey game reminds me of Mah Jongg taught to me by Chinese friends when in Singapore for two years. The first rule I learned was : do not be slow to play! I spent many happy hours. Losing :)

OKEY is marketed as Rummykub here in America (or it is very similar; house rules may be a bit different) .

We play 101 with okey materials, in the south west coast of Turkey. It is so much more difficult, flexible and fun! If you go to west coast (Beyond İzmir) you can find people who play that instead. It is nice to see you've come back to Turkey. I am not sure if you are still here, but if you are, I hope you'll have a great time.

There's another way to win that game; if you have the 7 pairs of the sane stone (eg a pair of blue 7, a pair of red 3, a pair of green 4 and so on, you need to complexe 7 different pairs) then you can win the game.
And Ashley, i eat lahmacun exactly the sane way as you ;)

it's just a tip if you wanna see more local place as old İstanbul. You should be in Samatya for drinking Turkish Raki and try some tasty appetizer. (Thats the dinner time activity it starts 8:00pm until 2:00am) And then may be you can go fishing to Sarayburnu to catch some İstavrit (Thats activity for until morning) We love you guys :))
