      Parysatis is the third word in Xenophon's work "Cyrus' expedition", when he begins with the phrase: "of Darius and Parysatis came two sons : Artaxerxis and Cyrus." the anc. Greeks were obsessed with the Persians in the classical Era, just as they were obsessed with the Egyptians during the archaic Era. Speaks volumes as to how much admiration and fear they had of them.

      When I spoke of fear, I meant that they were cautious about them, after all the Persians invaded Greece with the task of conquering it. Greek authors say that many Greek individuals immigrated to Babylon, to make a fortune working as warriors or strategists for the great King. Xenophon had to escape Persia after Cyrus' death. But the Greeks feared the Persians and that is why they raised multiple revolts against them in Asia minor, that is why they studied them closely, and finally why Alexander III (the great) of Macedon campaigned successfully against the great King.

    Affection between Greeks and Persians pours out so naturally. As someone who is half-Greek, I have always been welcomed with open arms by my Iranian brothers and sisters, and always returned their affection with my sincere affection as well. As an archaeologist, I LOVE the Achaemenid period and am often far more interested in it than classical Greece--it's lovely to learn something different and Iranian history is so rich--throughout the centuries! Super wholesome video, btw! Thank you!

      An interesting experience of mine on this matter. When the movie 300 came out and all reactions of Iranians after, I checked IMDb (international movie database) website where there was arguments by many 300 fans saying why Iranians should act like this and it's just a movie, etc. What amazed me to see how great people the Greeks are was that I realized most replies to those complaints were written by some Greeks to support our Iran/Persia history rather than Iranians themselves! So, I agree. Greeks are very nice and knowledgeable, to say the least.

    • @panosa2502
      @panosa2502 6 ปีที่แล้ว +108

      +Massi We Greeks have deep respect for the Iranian nation which hails from the depths of history just like us. We have also our historical texts even from those times of huge confrontations (Greek-Persian Wars of 5th-4th century BC as well as Roman-Sassanid Wars of 6th-7th century AD) and our ancestors even if writing about "the Persian enemy" they still held Persians in great respect as a civilized nation. Persians too, we know, had expressed similar opinions, e.g. Cyprus the Younger was an admirer of Greek culture and the first Parthian high king actually added the title "Philhellene" to his full signature name. Beyond history, we often meet up with Iranians anywhere in the world and we keep getting the same experience : civilized, ultra-cultured people with deep education and a way of being not far away from ours.

When Greeks fought each other and some of them were expelled from their city, they used to go to the Persian king to seek refuge and he accepted them. Also when Greeks wanted information about many things, they used to go to Egypt to consult the Egyptian scholars and priests. 3.000+ years of history can't let us be anything but good friends.

      First Greek is from 18 century isn't ancient! Hellas is city country like Athens Sparta and more like that. Macedonian is ancient country! No city state big difference and in 1913 year Macedonia was separate in four pieces, the 1 biggest part get Greece, 2 then Serbia , 3 Bulgaria and 4 little Albania. In 1944 after the World War Serbia is back as one part who is now Macedonia. Greece did the biggest genocide to Macedonian people 2 000 000 was killed , assimilated and vanish. And they don't like us they want to disappear from earth. Just look at the moment in video : Greece army marching in Thessaloniki. And you will understand.

      @@kohkuangtandaniel83 that's because English created from Latin which created from ancient Greek. The first European language was ancient Greek during 5000 years ago and a little more the second was Latin. Latin spread during Roman empire and affect all the other languages which most of them didn't have an alphabet so they adopt the Latin way of writing. Some languages change almost completely English was one of them some others kept their natural sound (like German) and some other add a few words and grammar rules which didn't affect the language a lot. I don't know how Malley look like Greek and Persian it probably have to do with Persian history they are closer to them. 🙂You can find some clear Greek words which doesn't came from latin those are word we use for terms that came from ancient Greek for example dymocracy the word you said Earlier. Macedonians Christianize vulgar people and they become one of us called by Russia cardome as Slavs. Bulgarians speak broken Macedonian as no other "Slavs". As well modern Greeks cant understand context of ancient Macedonian. Practically Russian church made Bulgaria whit Macedonian heritage Russian cardome took as Slavic. Old Bulgarians(Turkic Tatars) was not Christians or Slavs but to rule land as Roman vassals,baptized and crowned as holy Roman, they become Christians therefore Slavs half of modern Bulgarians are Macedonian origin same as those who exist in Agaean(Greek province) Macedonia. Keep it quiet Russians will claim you neo-Greeks as Slavs and ancestors of holly church of Byzant at the end they acknowledge Macedonians.
