Along the China Frontier in the East: A Reporter's Journal ( Part-I)

  • Travelling in India’s northeast is never easy. As someone who lived in and reported from the region between 1983 and 2006, Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale knows it too well. But his time in the region also makes him passionate about the northeast. And if it is connected to the Indian military, it is a bonus. For a week in mid-September this year, Nitin and his team of two young and energetic camera colleagues Rohit Pandita and Shaurya Lenka travelled, interacted and reported on some of the changes in the Indian military’s deployment and modernisation in parts of Eastern Arunachal Pradesh. This is, in a way, Part I of the the back story. Enjoy the ride as they take you through some stunning, unseen areas along the China frontier

    1st scene: JORHAT reminds me of my younger days... My father was a NCC in charge of a college of jorhat and I got lucky to get aboard one of those AN 32 during a NCC trip to Jorhat Airforce base. Because I was a kid I insisted to sit on the cockpit and the officers there made it happen. Those days I used to boast and tell my friends that I had the opportunity to fly a fighter aircraft🤭. Lots of sweet memories😍... Thank u Nitin da

    4:25 These kids are the future of India. So proud to see them. Nationalism runs in the blood of our North-Eastern Indian brothers & sisters. Govt should double down on making heavy investment in NE India with help of World bank, ADB etc. Involve Japan too. Keep Chinese belligerence in check. NE India has a bright future. Jai Hind!

      Nitin is just awesome. This brings back memories. We were living in North East Frontier Railway colony in Maligaon in Assam in October 1962. Every day I watched the IAF planes fly over us supplying our troops on the front lines. My father who was a civil engineer would spend days away from home on line duty up to Dibrugarh inspecting and keeping the rail tracks in good repair while my mother would be busy knitting sweaters and gloves for our jawans ... Jai Hind!

    My suggestion- send solar panel they will generat electricity and u can use E- vehicles, rope ways ,proper communication ,light and so on ....

    • @sumithodeyar3778
      @sumithodeyar3778 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The power drawn by an electric vehicle in 2 hours through a fast charger is equivalent to the power a two BHK house consumes in 10 days. Solar panels can't generate that amount of electricity in such a short span.

    • @rahuldeshpande84
      @rahuldeshpande84 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sumithodeyar3778 then what is solution ?? Only 73 ppl stays there govt cant provide light there the geography is such. And world is using solar india genrates 43Gw. And solar panels can be used on roof so we can have strong structure for forces. U r talking @ technical prob which can be solved by experts

    • @sumithodeyar3778
      @sumithodeyar3778 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rahuldeshpande84 Yes, the country generates 40+ GW of solar power but that's a tiny amount out of the required 5630 GW of energy. And it doesn't come cheap - solar panels aren't inexpensive materials, neither the batteries, nor the real estate to store those 5000+ GW batteries - and batteries deteriorate with each cycle, meaning it needs timely replacement. Added to that, solar cells or the batteries require a lot of minerals that can be extracted only though an other energy demanding and environmentally unfriendly mechanism known as mining.
      Of course, solar can be used for lighting LEDs for 73 people, but not a viable option for EVs and ropeways. Moreover, considering NE to be a hilly area, there won't be enough sunshine to fall on the cells throughout the year.
      I agree that it's a technical problem, a technical problem without an easy solution.

After the forward posture in 1986 the road was extended to Chingwanti though the trek still took six days to reach Walong. The road was built after 2000.
