I like ASUS products but they tend to overprice so much of their lineup. People bought and liked the G14 because it was always priced reasonably for the build quality and specs it provided. Now, not anymore. They're vacating the $1,200-$1,500 range and handing it over to Lenovo. Dumb decision by the greedy decision makers at ASUS. Best Buy will definitely put these on sale in a few months or at the end of the year to clear out stock.
Thank you for trying to keep your integrity. Too many "reviewers" are really just shills and marketing arms for companies that give them free stuff or "review" units so they can get revenue from TH-cam ads before other actual reviewers who use their own money to buy stuff they review.

What integrity? He hasn’t even physically tested the laptop, just a bunch of conjecture which happens to be wrong. For starters the laptop runs cooler than last years model. Something he mentioned many times in this video which turns out to be completely wrong. Go watch Jush Josh’s video for actual objective testing of the laptop.

Great video. I had a feeling these laptops were going to be a step back at a higher cost, that's why I purchased the 2023 G14 with the RTX 4060 on sale at BestBuy for $1,099.99. I then purchased a 16gb stick of ram (32gb total) and a 2TB SSD for a total cost of $1,279.99, disabled turbo boost in the registry, uninstalled Armoury Crate and installed G-Helper and this laptop is fantastic now especially for the price. Consumers shouldn't have to do this to make it right, but most people that purchase a laptop like this tinker anyway. I had the Lenovo Legion 5 14", but I couldn't get past the glossy reflective display and the overall brightness with no G-Sync and soldered ram, and not that great of a keyboard. Thanks again...keep up the good work!👍

getting a good developer machine in this market is so annoyingly hard right now, what is reliable? I was looking at the Spectre but if I want 32GB on that, I also need to switch to the 16 inch OLED model. No configurator here in NL. At this point my only options is wait for more new Lenovo options like the yoga 9i 2 in 1, will you review that and the new Yoga 7i pro? I'm looking at those right now. Also, any personal recommendations? I want 32GB, and if you think OLED isn't gonna be good with the PWM or for development / text/code processing, please tell me.
There is a previous Intel 13th gen 13705? or 13605 i7 with MiniLED display but I dont know about efficiency / battery life and cooling on those, I know intel's last gen kinda sucks but idk..

That's the sale going on currently at Asus website for that model and literally the only G14 model worth looking at in Canada atm, but I'm curious about how the 4080 performs in that chassis, and even if it does perform adequately, if the after-tax CAD $3400 price tag is worth it for that model? Or should one just look at other laptops? I want in the 14-16 inch range but lightweight and portable.

It was really really bad, ~52 FPS average with DLSS feels a lot worse than native 52 FPS average. The even HIGHER resolution on the Legion 5 and this new G14 scares me.

Regardless of the price, is the G14 2024 still a good laptop? Because it's the only RTX 4070 14" model available that I can see in Australia (it doesn't even have the 2023 version here).

I understand your point. This is just my 2 cents thinking here. Speaking on US price the base model has same price last year model with Oled, better speaker, kind of better design (depend on taste), probably lower lock GPU but higher lock CPU. Pricing depend on GPU pricing as well not just laptop manufacturers. 4080 would be charged the same to laptop manufacturers before they could lower the lock or increase depend on the design itself. And depend on country as well. Duties, taxes, and tariff might be different on company as well.

last month I picked up a Asus m16 with the 4070 an i9, I ended up returning it after 2 weeks it was a buggy mess that would freeze an lock up just sitting at the desk top, it had audio issues the speakers would pop an turn off, the fans where extremely loud in turbo an in performance mode it ran so hot it would thermal throttle the cpu so bad the 1% lows. I have a desktop with a 1080ti so I decide to just get an ultra book an picked up an Asus zenbook 14x for $650 from best buy an it has been a great laptop with none of the bugs from the asus m16, I was tempted swap it for one of these new G14/ G16's but after seeing this video my fears where confirmed the soldered memory is a problem an the temps are still not looking good, looks like I am sticking with the 14x an the desktop for gaming still. but I am interested in the new Asus zenbook 14 with the core ultra 7, at $1300 for 32 gb an 1tb it is defiantly not the steal that this 14x is but I am interested in the new arc Igpu for light gaming an heavy workloads. The 2024 G14 and G16 may not be the least expensive nor the best performing RTX 4070 laptops available, but getting reasonable performance from an RTX 4070 in a 14" chassis that weighs only 3.3 lbs, (just 4.1 lbs in the case of the G16) is a real achievement. Lighter than a Macbook Pro 14. The HP Omen Transcend 14 is 3.7 lbs, as is the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i. The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 is 3.85 lbs and the Razer Blade 14 is 3.9. There is simply nothing else on the market that performs this well yet is as thin and light. That's what I'm willing to pay the premium for.

Thanks for this video. Spot on assessment of the terrible value proposition of this year's (2024) G14/G15 offering from Asus, at least at current prices (as of Feb 2024). I'd imagine that in 6-8 months there will be big discounts. I think Asus is banking on a certain segment of consumers who will find the sleeker redesigned chassis to be appealing. Ie, the people who want a Macbook Pro 14" style chassis but who want a Windows OS and gaming functionality. Not a terrible strategy to jack prices up at for 3-6 months to take the money of said consumers before reducing them in the couple of months leading into Black Friday to get the price sensitive consumers to buy later in the year. With that said, please keep making videos like this one bc in the weeks after CES all I saw from the other popular laptop reviewers on TH-cam were fawning reviews of the G14/G16 that focused on the redesign with no mention of price and upgradeability.

The speakers, the aesthetics, portability relative to other laptops (even if a 100 grams), etc.

2024? I might snag one but they are very pricy.
Or do you mean provide feedback? Imo the blade is nice but it’s VERY expensive. They put everything in so that it runs pretty much max, but still is thin.
I actually liked the 2023 blade 14 dude to ram upgradeability. I think if you are willing to spend major dough, and want a thin laptop do a head to head between the asus g14 with 32gb vs the blade and check pricing. If the asus is cheaper get that (due to OLED). Don’t even consider the 16gb g14
Otherwise if OLED is a thing you need and you don’t need super thin, only kinda thin, what about the legion 14 I showed? Superb laptop
Finally… if you don’t care about OLED but just want a good screen and 14”. Why not the 2023 g14? It will perform better than this and costs a fraction on sale. Plus the ram can be upgraded :) (it’s a bit thicker though)

    I hope I'm happy with it :). I'll see.
I use it for coding / processing raw pictures / some low-spec gaming. I have a 35watt 3050ti now, with 16gb, and my desktop is 16gb, and I never ever have run into memory issues or being close to it. Except when playing around with AI models that are 16gb large 😔.
The 4050 / 4060 / 4070 perform so close to each other that it doesn't matter which you get, in practise. And their performance plateaus around the 90watt to 100watt. If you have a 125watt power for a GPU, but a 4080 in it.
So yes, it's expensive. And it's kinda dumb that if I want 32gb, I also have to upgrade the 4060 to a 4070 which I really don't care about. But I'm happy with 16gb. I did look at the Lenovo Legion 5 14", but I'm a bit afraid I'll always compare it to my Thinkpads I had, and it doesn't live up to it.
But it's 1800 EUR vs 2250 EUR for the new G14. Or 1800 EUR for the 2023 G14 (the only one available still for sale), that is in a clearance sale now. But I went with the 2024 anyway. It's a hybrid working machine for me. The lower weight, the materials and the slimmer body is worth it.
Anyway, 2500 CAD sounds still OK. The CAD prices are one-to-one Euro prices here. So I pay 2250 EUR for the 4060/16gb version, you pay 2250 CAD. So I pay 3262 CAD. Now, that's including sales tax, which I think you don't use in comparisons over there. If I divide by 1.21 to remove 21% sales tax, I still end up at 2700 CAD.

regarding your wattage point, (i am basing this off of Jarod Tech's video) the difference between a full power 4050-4070 as compared to a 90w is literally 1fps across all of them, you will never notice this change so its really slim, not saying that you know the 2024 G14 is really just a better looking 2023 G14 but gpu wattage decrease is much smaller than you make it out to be. The rest of your points are valid. TBH If I can I feel I might still try to pick up the 4070 32 gig version of the 2024 G14, its still good and the form factor is something I appreciate. totally agree with you, gamers don't have that much money to spend on a laptop and fhe designers would usually go with apple's for that price. Asus really messed up with that pricing

considering ASUS has a slew of creator laptops already anyways...

I agree with most of the points here and thanks for the heads up, but from a reviewer prespective I wouldnt make claims of certainty about performance and especially temperature (especial in a new untested form factor) until you have the product tested. But yeah these prices seems like a repackaging scam.

It’s not hard to understand how this will have heat issues. The G 14 2023 had a superior cooling solution and was thicker. Even that ran too hot. This is the exact same chip put into a thinner chassis with downgraded cooling
It will run hot. It’s just physics.

G14 is the windows macbook killer. You have to see it in person to understand how beautiful this thing is. Super slim and powerful at the same time. It does it all. Restored my faith in windows laptops.

      I did, I used it at CES…. It’s overpriced

I'm not gonna disagree that the laptops are to the expensive side and you do definitely pay some for the 'brand' and comprise a bit on performance to get a smaller formfactor.
With that said, I think you went to fast over a quite essential point. The OLED with VRR -> in such a small form factor is very expensive and actually holds a significant value for the laptop that to my knowledge isn't on ANY of the laptops you compared it with. If you also look at LinusTechTips first video on this laptop he actually explains how VRR is not common on laptops at all and that it doesn't even really exist on phone, because its so hard to do.

Everything you said, aside from a bit of a slip in performance, are things I haven't experienced. The added AI will be good for the 8945hs moving forward.

I bought the 2023 M16 the moment I found out about the soldered ram, no thank you. As upgrading ram was one of my first plans with it.

Good analysis, but there could be risks to using Chinese tech products. Both the U.S. State Department and FBI have been sounding the alarm. I own the Legion Slim Pro 14", but may return it. I am still in the return window. Perhaps I'll go with an American company, the new 14" HP Omen looks nice, aside from the keycaps which I dislike.

I was going to buy the G14 2024 edition but you convinced me the legion 5 slim 14 inch is better because you can upgrade the memory plus its cheaper so i ordered that instead. But you have to admit the g14 2024 edition is sexy looking but you're right its expensive and offer little ram

Yes it’s very aesthetic. But for the price just get another creator laptop, he’ll even asus makes several.
Otherwise for gaming the legion is a superior buy
