    MWO (Mechwarrior Online) by Piranha Games. Free to play at mwomercs.com.
    MechWarrior Online is a free-to-play vehicular combat video game, officially launched during September 2013 by Piranha Games for Microsoft Windows. The game takes place within the larger BattleTech universe.
    In MechWarrior: Online, players takes the role of a "MechWarrior" who pilots large bipedal combat vehicles known as BattleMechs (Mech for short). Players can customize their BattleMech with an array of weapons and equipment, and engage in 12 versus 12 battles, the outcome of which earns the players experience and c-bills for future BattleMech purchases and customization. There are currently seven game modes that involve protecting and attacking a single base (Assault), capturing and holding several points (Conquest), take and hold the center of the map (Domination), leading a VIP to a pickup point (Escort), attacking a space defense system (Siege/Counter-Attack), protecting and attacking field bases with turrets and walls spread across the map (Incursion), and team death-match (Skirmish).

      Yeah ! Excellent video, TTB - thank you for this. I actually just started playing the game, to any great extent (had muddled through the Cadet Bonus first 25 over the course of Feb and March, nothing serious, after being introduced to it by a friend)....but since April-7th, when I randomly started playing one night and found myself really having fun with it, and doing match after match...I've now soared from Tier-5 to nearly Tier-2 (bar is 90% filled on the Tier-3 level), and your videos have been so helpful to me. I actually got to play one match with you, during the Marauder-2 release week, but it was largely uneventful - but for me, it was a cool experience getting to 'see you' in-game. Anyways, this Medium Video is excellent and timely because I currently only have the Crab: Florentine (hero) and the Hunchback (Inner Sphere version with AC-20 quirks), and have been kind of feeling "meh" with them, relative to my Heavies and Assaults (which are my main types, thus far). But you cover some excellent options and strategies here, and I really appreciate it. Thanks so much !

    Nice tutorial TTB. For any given player, the Crab is the best medium for beginners. The pulse lasers are pinpoint damage with a almost good distance from the enemy. Lasers are quick to learn, canons and missiles are not. A player that have never played MWO must be warned that this is not a simple FPS. The game have a very harsh learning curve, and, even with most of the mechs shown here, a new player will die....over and over.
    If the player die in the beginning of the match, don't log off the drop, and just who your teammates play their mechs.
    This game is hard, but very rewarding. There are many, many mechs now, and one of the best ways to be better is by studying your enemy. For instance, some pilots are using a Dragon 5N with 3 AC2s in the right arm. Disable this arm and choose another target. It can be very hard to kill a armless Dragon, when others enemies are shooting at you. Know you role in your team. The Bushwaker build in this video is a flancker, so attack the enemy sides.

    Ive been around since beta but checked out the vid anyways.
    I agree with a lot of the mechs here. I opt for a light280 on the bushie and a light 300 on the crab, but otherwise pretty similar.
    Its too bad there isnt a larger selection of ECM mechs in the medium category. I think that would help newbies.
    Also want to throw down the Centurion as a mech to get for a new player. Its not particularly good, but it will teach you excellent torso twisting skills - Thats how I learned

    Cooldown has no effect on racs, so on the left side of the weapons tree you can switch coodlown 1 and cooldown 3 for just missile spread 1.
    Saving this 1 node, along with switching out range 15 and coolshot cooldown would allow us to take 3 more skeletal density nodes which I would value more highly for newbies.
    With the arctic wolf you don't want to fill the mech up with half ton ammo bins, these bins have half the hp and you therefore are doubling your chance of an early ammo explosion. You also want to side load the ammo, usually it's best to protect the RT, with the ecm and ammo inside, rather than having the LT fall off (it is more prone to fall off) with all your remaining ammo in it.
    The arctic wolf arms are good sheilds and it's otherwise rather squishy, I wouldn't recommend stripping the left arm. If you are only taking missile weapons, take the missile arms (not missile 'and' energy) it gives you 5 structure in each arm. The 1missile LT gives target decay and missile cooldown, so it is a viable alternative over taking 2missile LT for streak wolf.
    Some personal preference notes..
    I prefer ammo in legs of hunchie 2C, better to keep shooting before I go down than worry about heat eficency with this thing.
    Shadowhawk is nice for rac2s/5s sadly ac2s/5s not very efficent ammo, racs typically do a lot better for prolonged face time.
    I run the energy hunchie 2C with XL255, no ferro and a smaller payload (4med +2 large). Less alpha damage but more follow up shots (more new player friendly?).
    IS hunchie is very.. average. Typically IS medium energy boats lean into mpls (like the crab, uziel, vulcan) for decisive fights rather than trying to catch up with clans and larger ranged laserboats.
    Side load DHS on right side of the crab (same goes for ams ammo).
    Griffin 2N can go standard srms and take a similarly sized Lengine, though classic build is still perfectly fine (except for arm ammo).

      Really good spot and build optimization for entry level players

    • @TTBprime
      @TTBprime  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good spots. Switching out the imports for skill tree (exchanging not for missile spread 1, it's hi explosive 1) to offer a bit more skeletal density. Arctic wolf imports were updated, good point on the arms - it's actually armor and not extra structure, which is even better!

    Nice job again TTB! I know that this video was dedicated to beginners, but nevertheless i have to provide some additional statements: Most important thing is, that a medium has to fulfill different roles in battle. There are for example: 1) scouting role (support for lights); 2) fire support (allrounder); 3) brawling (distracting). Depending on those roles mentioned above, the choosen mech requires different loadout. And this depends also on playstyle a player prefers. Honestly, point (3) brawling is very difficult for the most newbies. A medium which should take over a scouting role instead should have any electronic support as ECM and/or Beagle probe mounted and also should have a decent speed. I have to admit that mediums were my preferred category - especially the early models (before 2016). In my opinion the best medium at all is the Stormcrow which could be configured for nearly all roles and all possible weapon loadouts. (dunno exactly, seems i played more than 1k battles only in that mech :-) ) The most difficult role/mech is brawling in a Kintaro due to it's bad heat management (recommended for experienced pilots only looking for a challenge). Back to the roots...what i want to say is that beginners in early phase should take over a mech fitting to role (2) to stay at range and cover without JJ capacity. Predestinated mechs for such a role are Bushwacker, Centurion, Shadowhawk, Stormcrow. Others like Hunchbacks, Uziels, Griffins and Kintaros are quite good but requiring advanced knowledge and experience. The bushwacker built choosen in that video is clearly defined as a fire support mech at medium range and a good choice according to low amount of weapon groups to handle, great heat management, good armor and decent speed.

    Hey TTB, thanks for these videos! You've helped me quite a lot as a new player, and I really appreciate it!
    My first mech was your Shadowhawk 2H with the dual AC5s and an AC2, it served me well as my starter mech and I was able to get some good kills with it. However I noticed I'd run out of ammo frequently in sustained engagements so I tried a few different builds on that mech. I settled for a UAC10 and a UAC5 utilizing a standard 210 engine and two external heat sinks in the free torso. I call it the Halfnir, since it has half the weapons that most people run on their Fafnirs in faction play. I have been able to completely wreck heavies and assaults in seconds by taking advantage of the Shadowhawk's excellent peaking profile and I haven't run out of ammo yet.
    Here is the import code: A^1:2061|7P|LO|Xbpb0|i^|i^qb0|N@|1@r=0s>0td0|7P|hOud0|LO|7Pv?0w202020
    I'm testing it with a standard engine 225 and one external heatsink, but no armor in the arms like you have built it with the 2AC5/AC2 build to see how that fares compared to the STD210 engine build above.
    I've also seen people run two LBX10s on it which I haven't tried yet. I want to use this mech in Faction play so I can earn more mech bays, so I've been testing a few builds to see which would be the most useful in FP. I was hoping you might give me some tips on the loadouts to make it better for that purpose?
    Thanks again for all your videos and guides TTB, you are awesome!

      Quick note: Cooldown does nothing for RACs and machine guns because those have fixed rates of fire, so you can save a skill point by taking a skill tree route va the single missile node on the left side of the firepower tree, instead of picking the two Cooldown nodes above it.

    I prefer the 27B crab over the 27, for that extra laser. Scrap the AMS. It MAY be over HSL (not sure) but just eat the ghost heat and go for it. 27 is good but 27B is heavier hitting with the MPLS build. Agree that they are very damage-tolerant in battle. You can just have all kinds of stuff just falling off left and right and still do your damage.

      @@TTBprime I just played a couple games... won BOTH! First time this has happened to me :D
      and not only that but I did 633 and 511 damage, my highest record yet!
      I played an Orion IIC and tried to stay amongst the assault mechs and look for opportunities to support them, cover our flanks/flank their targets, and smash any lights that came close to the formation
      Really like having srms & an LBX, dont have to track well like lasers and as long as you can survive until the match gets brawly you can do your role proper I feel like.

    I'd like to add another beginner mech here: the Shadow Hawk 2K. It can do the MRM build you showed here on a mech with significantly better hitboxes than the Kintaro. The 2K can also run a 3x LPL build on an LFE 250 or XL 280 (depending on preferrence) with decent heat management and optional jump jets. That's 30 damage pinpoint that takes 0.67 seconds to put out with no need to lead your shots at about 375 to 400 meters optimal.

    • @TTBprime
      @TTBprime  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @JoshMD2009
      @JoshMD2009 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TTBprime And once the new pilots grow in skill, the ceiling for the 2K is pretty high, like the GRF-2N. The build I've had the most success with is 3x SRM6 (no arty) + 3x ML on an LFE 300 with LFF armor and a couple of JJs. Enough firepower to contribute to the battle line, all weapons are right around cockpit-level and the speed makes it easy to flank and backstab assaults. Depending on preferrence you can downsize the engine and switch to STD armor to mount Artemis for better SRM precision.

    tried the bushwhacker as it was on sale. you didn't mention in the video that you had to endo and upgrade the ferro for the tonnage. that adds about 1.4 mill to the cost. I like it but it does take some getting used to with weapon ramp up and all. I was completely taken apart for a javelin 11 using 7 med lasers abusing my heat up time. my first was the stormcrow and super glad it was. that mech has a ton of diversity except for ballistic which it can only have 1.

      That build can also be done in the BSW-P2. I prefer a regular AC 20 for more consistent DPS because a jammed UAC hurts your damage output, especially in a full brawl when you can't duck back into cover to wait out the jam. Also running it on the BSW-P2 has the added benefit of having a shield side on an already durable medium chassis, as opposed to the GD where the lasers are low and arm-mounted. The advantage that the GD has is that the big gun is very high, it's easier to track lights with your lasers and it has jump jets.

    Those HBK-IIC-A and HBK-IIC builds are way too toasty for newbies. Take off one cERLL from the HBK-IIC-A for heatsinks and it becomes much more manageable. The HBK-IIC can be a good dakka medium for newbies, but not dual UAC20s. It takes some heat management and positioning skills to make that work. It's slow and easy to be out of position. KTO-18, biggest CT ever for a medium. Wouldn't be my first choice but ok... No Vapor Eagle selection is odd given its build variety and firepower.

Be sure to put the top two rotary AC/2's in there own fire group for peak shooting that would block the bottom rotary AC/2.

    Also i really don't understand the Crab 27 build, instead of Ferro Fibrus just take a light engine and you can put in 9 double heat sinks instead of only 4??? If you want 2 ams it will still give you options to run with 6-7 heat sinks, really just depends on how much ams ammo you want to take with you. But stg engine with 4 heat sinks is simply sub optimal!

      Fight longer. With LFE you lose a side torso, 4 MPL runs hot on LFE half-cooling. And if you lose both side torsos you're dead, whereas with the standard engine you can still fight with 3MPL having lost both arms and side torsos.
