    As someone who has a few of these Marvel Legends in my collection, I completely agree that they are a pain in the arse for falling over constantly. Even my NECA figures which are notorious for dodgy QC fall over less. It's also really annoying that the foot pegs on Legends are different sizes.

    I'm surprised that Hasbro hasn't started selling their own first party figure stand packs like NECA just to nickle and dime its customers more. Thats why I am excited for the Valaverse stands. The fact that they already include some of the best figure stands around with each figure puts them even farther ahead of Hasbro

      They do have a stand pack you can buy, for about $15 US. Comes with 3 of the same stand they packed in with the deluxe Black Widow figure (that figure was actually nice in that it came with the stand and a ton of accessories and effects parts for $40). I'm guessing the Star Wars license costs more than the Marvel license though, since we don't get nearly as much as what was packed in with her on Star Wars deluxe stuff.

    McFarlane includes figure stands with all their DC superhero figures that are licensed from Warner Bros. True, McFarlane usually doesn't include stuff like extra hands, blast effects, etc., but realistically how much of that stuff can you display with the figure? Those extras are great for doing Instagram photos, but then they get stored in a bin or baggie somewhere. I'd rather have a figure stand first, then cost out what else to include. Or do like Valaverse and include everything.
    One easy solution that Hasbro will never do is eliminate that damned build figure concept. The larger sized figures WILL sell on their own in a collector driven market as proven by the Hydra Stomper, MODOK, Kingpin, various Hulks, etc. They need to stop forcing 6 or 7 figures into a wave, with 2 or 3 figures being duds that rely on the build figure piece to sell them. Smaller waves with better character choices, larger figures sold separately, include stands for all. Problems solved all around.
    Of course, even figure stands wouldn't save the Eternals wave.

      Yeah Mcfarlane uses that stand for almost all their lines. DC Mortal Combat, My Hero Academia. He'll my idea is even if Hasbro still wants to do Build-a-Figures, give the 7th figure in the wave a figure stand. You know the one without a BaF piece "Heat claws Wolverine." Guve the Deluxe figures stands. Fans are already paying extra, throw in an extra plastic disc with a foot peg.

    You make some good points but... I think the bigger problem is that "adult collector" figures are just statues with some articulation. Give me something like a MotU Origins over Marvel Legends, Gi Joe Classified, or Valaverse any day because that's a toy that actually feels like it was meant to be played with. MotU origins all have at least one accessory and a minicomic and look great displayed but they are also undeniably toys that make you just want to take them off the shelf and play with them.
    My other issue with "adult collector" lines is the lack of vehicles and playsets. No toy line is really complete without a vehicle or two and maybe a big playset. I know that you have a bunch of vehicles for your classified figures but those are third party and I know you either paid a lot for those or got a really good deal on them.... the most that Hasbro is doing is a couple of motorcycles and so many other companies don't even go that far.
    Anyway, yes I'm being negative so maybe I need to go watch some Pixel Dan (lol) to recharge my positivity. Looking forward to your next vid.

    • @BB-ed4om
      @BB-ed4om 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you play with a motu origins? To put the arms straight out? Or one arm out? Or turn the head? Those are not for posing or photography and not geared toward adults. I mean if you like them that’s cool but legends are way more versatile and appealing for adults.

    • @maproomgaming6886

And I’m tired of hearing “it’s a toy line, it’s meant for kids” if it’s meant for kids why is it 25 dollars?! You think kids can easily get 25 from their parents? 4 figures are over 100 dollars including taxes😬 I didn’t question hasbro before when it costed 20 dollars but now I’m actually demanding for improvement🤬😡

    As a child, I loved it when Hasbro made figure stands for GI Joe. I always displayed my figures in action poses or dioramas I made to tell a story. In the 90's, Hasbro started including stands with every figure on a sprue with extra weapons. Though most of these were neon colors, I treasured the black, grey, brown and earth tone stands.
    Great video, Tony, with great simply logical thinking.

    I've been a collector of Marvel Legends for 10 years and I've never felt that I needed display stands for my figures. Even on the given occasions where stands were included, I would just store them away and never used them. Stands take up more foot space and can take away from creative displaying. I often use my figures for ACBA anyways, and that doesn't require any stands with the exception of an occasional flight stand here and there. I have no need for stands, but that being said... asking for a display stand at the $26 price range isnt asking much. It's reasonable. But even with more accessories and a display stand, $26 is getting pretty steep even for a committed collector like myself.

    Is it safe to say that any argument Hasbro has against providing figure stands is baseless?

  • @Jcc2224
    @Jcc2224 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I fully agree that Hasbro lines such as Black Series, Classified, and Marvel Legends should include display bases. An even better example would be McFarlane toys, a significantly smaller company than Hasbro that gives a base to every single fully articulated 7" action figure they produce. While their figures aren't always hits, they're high quality for the price (still $19.99), and have the stand.
    However Tony, I can't help but make mention of the little jab at Pixel Dan at the end. I'm not sure what he did to you, if anything at all, but I just feel like comments like that hurt the community rather than help it. Sure Pixel Dan is a VERY positive person, but you say that like it's a bad thing. He still gives his full opinion in every review, and always points out any flaw or issue he has, he just does so with his generally positive attitude. Is that positive attitude for everyone? Heck no, it doesn't have to be, but I enjoy both his and your content, and I don't feel comfortable letting my disliking of a comment like that go unheard. I know there's quite a lot of tension going on in the toy collecting community, but it disappoints me that videos from some of my favorite content creators nowadays have to take jabs at one another. I hope you don't find my comment to be argumentative or hateful because that's not its intent, I just want to voice my concern about the growing temperature in this community, because I worry it's starting to get out of hand.

    • @AnalogToys

Putting his name in that comment insinuates that the viewers that call you overly negative, which I disagree with, should go and watch a "happy-go-lucky Mr. Positive Pixel Dan". I've recently become way more picky about the Marvel Legends I buy. • @jamielister3048
    @jamielister3048 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I cant say I agree but I think it depends on the collector. I much prefer seeing marvel legends come with a good amount of accessories for posing options rather than a display stand. Their display stands they did in the past were terrible so I'm sure they could improve on it but it's extra plastic in the packaging which could be used for something better. As long as you're careful, getting them to stand is not hard. Plus, having action figures fall over sometimes is all part of the collecting process, it just happens. I also think complaining about a lack of pinless joints is a bit silly as they are currently implementing that. They have been pretty slow with doing the pinless tech but I never personally thought it was necessary for an action figure line. I also think the reason legends and star wars figures and always going to be more expensive is for the simple reason that they are the much more popular characters. The Action Force/Valaverse line are already more expensive figures, even with the price increase from Hasbro so I'd rather have each individual figure be cheaper. This is all my opinion of course and I dont want to just sound like some Hasbro fan boy as they are far from perfect lol

    I own just 2 Marvel Legends so hardly a collector. But, I routinely enjoy watching youtube reviews - IMO recent figures such as Hammerhead look pretty incredible when compared to his previous release. For me, I struggle with the rationale as to the eye-watering prices and from a personal perspective how I could justify putting a collection of these figures together when the money can go along way in paying for other things.

    I'm a MASSIVE fan of the line....been since it debut back in the Toybiz days. So you may think I'm gonna troll you, but my friend....you make very solid points. I think my main fandom is comics, particularly Marvel comics (I'm in your camp when I say I only buy comic based - I'm even more specific in that I only pick up CLASSIC comic based....mostly....but that's still an awful lot of figures - I range between 60's - early to mind 90's)....I love this stuff mostly because my dad raised me on those old before my time books and it just stuck. But as AMAZING as the figures are today, my God are they, yeah the price is becoming outrageous. And when you consider that the old Toybiz line became with diorama stands AND a comic (and sure I get inflation but still)....there are just some figures I feel jippped out on. But they know people like me, if they play to nostalgia enough, can't resist buying anyway. And the figure USUALLY delivers too, so it makes you forget....wait...did I just basically get ripped off and I'm yet okay with it? It's like they've done the mental math on nostalgia and how it works. But finally I started to recognize it myself, you're spot on. We deserve display stands! ESPECIALLY when you consider how acrobatic and dynamic MOST superheroes and villains are in comics.

    I just bought the stands on Hasbro Pulse but you’re 100% correct: the figures should come with stands. I shouldn’t have to make an extra purchase. Also, multiple hands should be standard on Hasbro. No question.

    It's weird how I have dozens of figures on several bookshelves and I have never slammed into the bookshelves and knocked everything over.
    Edit: btw I don't disagree that stands should be included with the figures, but your example of how "easy" it is to knock them over is a bit silly. Like... of course they'll fall over when you do that. Figures will fall over sometimes. It happens. The key thing is to figure out the best way to pose them. Also flight stands are great for more exciting (or just flying) poses.

    Great video and a very interesting perspective that I've not encountered before when it comes to display stands! Which is crazy looking at the comments.
    Can't say I've ever had any major issues displaying my Legends. Other than some of them in heels of course! I find slightly dynamic poses and making full use of ankle rockers enough to keep all of mine upright and dodge the domino effect!
    Having my shelving bolted to the wall helps, it sits opposite my squat rack / deadlift platform - even with weights hitting the floor regularly there's hardly any casualties from the display 😅

    My purchasing rates of Classified, Black Series, and Marvel Legends has slowed way down. Not only of the price increases, but the lack of quality and poor character selection. There’s maybe 5 or so figures I “need” from the three lines total that are coming out this year. But honestly most the figures I want now are a few years old, like the Walgreens The Thing and Professor X. Great video, I do agree Hasbro can put stands in their figures, but they’re just too lazy to do so

    I only have a handful of NECA figures such as Aliens Colonial Marines , Predator , Robocop and horror figures. They’re quality control sucks most of the time and either the legs are not the same length and or loose joints right out the packaging so foot stands are a must. They do have uniform peg holes on the feet and NECA sells their own foot stands. Don’t know why Hasbro can’t do the same. I have some Black Series too and I’m afraid to pose them because the joints will get loose and fall because it’s hard to find third party stands that will fit as you described.

    There's just no real excuse for Hasbro or any other toy company to not include figure bases with their modern action figure, given the fact that most buyers are adults who want to display their figures. Most modern figures tend to be highly articulate affairs anyway with rocker ankles that tend to weaken over time, so a stand seems like an essential element to include. That said, Hasbro makes a lot of mind-numbing decisions that often seem to be primarily driven by budget issues, but they also make just bad choices. I'm not sure why the new Dr Strange Walmart figure doesn't have a lighter blue on the design of his tunic to be more comic book accurate, for instance. Why does the new anniversary Hulk have weird fish-like lips, combed-out '70s hair that's parted in the middle, with sideburns??? I mean, Hulk has hair like Randy Travis from WKRP! WTF? I have every INCREDIBLE HULK issue from 1968-1984, and I never EVER saw him with any of those aspects. Hasbro: Hulk is not big on combing his hair, and he never was into the disco, feathered hair thing! lol Why does the "retro" Falcon not have the actual comic book retro costume?? He's wearing duds that I never saw him wear. How is this weird altered version of his classic costume "retro"? Why does the new Invisible Woman figure have a head like Martha Stewart on a bender?? Who ever saw human hands where the pointer finger is longer than the middle finger?? With basic decision making like this, why are we shocked that Hasbro doesn't think that a base is a necessity? Apparently their real problem at Hasbro is that they put too much money towards only one single figure in a line while the rest of the line has to suck the pipe! It's sometimes very frustrating being a classic comic book fan in a modern. 'Nuff said.

    I’ve slowed down on legends. Not only are they not worth the increased price, but they didn’t up the production quality or accessories. I love legends but they don’t seem to put much care into the line anymore. I’ve moved mostly to McFarlane and NECA. McFarlane has kept his regular figures at $20 with accessories and stands for every figure. Even his bigger figures come with stands.

I couldn’t see spending the money at a $22 price point, little lone the $24 price point and still get provided the same shit. I am not really a big Marvel/DC character collector to begin with, but when Valaverse came out with their line, it was clearly a no brainer. Take my money!

    Is be fine with $26 if they didn’t use the same bodies with minimal paint over and over instead of taking the time to sculpt a character. They’re about quantity and releasing more every month. I don’t care about stands, I’ve never had issues with them falling 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Oh your preaching to the choir on this one Tony. None of the joe's fit my 3rd party stands properly and they have 2 separate sized pegs. Instead or Blutac I glue my joe figures to the bases using goop or e 2000. The beauty of that glue is that it dosent bond to thd plastic so you can pry the feet off and remove thd glue with a strong finger nail when done. I learned this using it for my d and figure models. I glue them to bases using this so I can easily rebase thd figs at a latter date if I want but thd glue is very secure. I get some residue on the bases that require some alchole to scrub off but I've yet to have s classified figure that thd glue didn't come off and leave thd paint intact on the figure.

    Doesn't help much the detents on the ankles have increasingly become less level in the ankles across all the Hasbro lines. Some figures have to be in an action pose since they are not capable of standing straight up.

  • @whataday2624

    You make a lot of valid points. I do not disagree with you at all. The only thing that is a valid counter-argument about the price hike is that everything has gone up in price, yet nothing has improved in quality. This ranges from action figures, to contracted services, to camper trailers and most cars/trucks. It’s sad that we are slowly being conned into spending more than we should and then also made to believe that this is a value.

    What's really sad is that Hasbro did tool a stand for their Legends figures and included them with one of the waves of the blister styled package releases (Wave 3 I think but I could be wrong) and then dropped them the next wave. The stand was nice too, capable of interlinking with multiples of itself. They really should bring it back.

    Good point. The cheap plastic dies with foot pegs don't really help, either. I've made really effective stands out of old wire hangers and those clear plastic-covered twist ties that are wrapped around most figures in the package already. (Yeah, I love Toy Polloi!) Wrap the tie around the waist just below the belt and it hardly shows. Painting the wire with black Rust-oleum makes it less noticeable, as well, and if you vary the wire length, you can pose them any way you want and they'll stay up. I put them on Superman and Red Tornado, as they both have the heavy molded capes and wouldn't stay put for anything. Now they stand when everything else falls down. I need to get to work on the rest! I only have the Serpent Society figure from legends, because he looks a lot like Kobra, but I'd be sorry to see this line fade.

  • @jeffersonalmarinez2551

    as a casual collector since i no longer feels obligated to buy a whole set, I've felt that the line could do better, mcfarlane is putting out larger figures with better sculpt, (ahem!) sculpted details and paint at a cheaper price .
    given that the characters are wearing spandex which I think is the number one requirement on how a new marvel legends figure is released, it wouldn't hurt to have some sculpted gloves or boots.

But with my marvel legends Spider-Man collection coming to a close I’m grateful to say bye to this line. But I absolutely agree these need stands. I don’t know how McFarlane makes brand new sculpts and include stands too, but hasbro needs to take notes. Even if it’s a flimsy, forgettable stand, I’m not worried about it falling over, and it doesn’t take up a lot of space so I’m happy with them.

    Negative or not prices jump annually without a worldwide Pandemic. I'm no expert but been in the action figure game over 35 years and understand the more steps involved in production of a figure-toy the more it retails for. Likewise companies don't throw shit in for free the more accessories included the more we have to pay! Hasbro and companies do listen they may consider swapping out but doubt well just get more for the asking. the supply chain worldwide is a shit-show so I feel somewhat lucky to be getting figures at all..just saying!

Only thing keeping me in this line are the 90s. It’s around the civil war comics is when I stopped. Prices for those books were to high and made me stopped going to my favorite comic book shop. Now with the 20 a figure was a bit high. At 25 a figure. 2 figures 50. 3 figs 75. 4 figs 100. Plus tax. It’s literally making me stop. I’m good with the figures I have. Don’t need repeats either. Especially in those 3 packs.
