    You might want to mention covering the drain with a towel or rag so if you drop a screw, you don't lose it.

    You just saved me a minimum of $109 bucks GE service call. Getting the rear panel back in place was a real headache. Spent more time dealing with that then the entire job. Much thanks.

    It also a good idea to replace the defrost sensor when you do this. There is a reason why amazon sells them together. Also it is a pain in the a$$ to out that back panel on. That took longer than replacing the heater.

    this was more helpful than i can tell you. The service tech also said I should change out the thermostat, since this same part was switched out 3 years ago. Thoughts? Videos?

    Great video and it helped me replace the part easily. QUESTION: I managed to drop the screw down into the hole that collects the water. Will this effect normal operation?

  • @Eric-vn9sm

    Is it normal for a lil frost on the vent of the fridge ?

    Great Video! ... Do I need to defrost the coils before I replace the Defrost Heater and Bracket Assembly? I would think so... What is the best way to do it?

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Ross It is best to defrost them while you have it open. You can use a hair
      dryer or if you are careful of the electrical connections and have some
      towels you can use warm water.

    If the screw falls into the bottom hole what method is suggested for getting back out?

  • @elreggaetoneroamericano4937

    On my GE, the screw on the left is totally blocked by a coil on the evaporator. Does that mean there's no way to remove the defrost heater?

    I have a GE refrigerator model GSS25SGSA SS. I am a single mom on a tight budget, i have been dealing with this issue for months and couldn't afford to pay a repair man to come out. I went ahead ordered the defrost heater and replaced it myself with your help. I could not have done this without you. I was able to test if the freezer was working by making ice cubes and it worked, I do not have the tester gadget, therefore was not able to check and see if i need replacing other parts. Although the problem has been solved, do you think it is necessary to replace the defrost sensor and thermostat just to be on the safe side. Again thank you very much for your help cheers from Denver, CO

    What type of tool did you use to remove the screws at the back edge of the panels 1:23

    • @toma5153
      @toma5153 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 1/4 inch nutdriver. See at about 0:30. Or a small ratchet and socket set. Sometimes the screws will be slotted for a regular screwdriver.

    The plastic surrounding on my wires melted…should I just add electrical tape when I install the new heater?

    • @billmurphy1335
      @billmurphy1335 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no strip the wires and add aconnector

  • @tonymanero6914
    @tonymanero6914 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of the connectors in the wire that connects in the defrost heater burn out. The plastic actually burned on the defrost heater. How do you replace the connector on the wire. Do I need a whole wire assembly or can I cut the wire and splice it on another connector that would fit in the defrost heater.

    • @egold1006
      @egold1006 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same problem with a burnout connection. Through I had to source a new defroster through eBay, as GE no longer stocks it to dealers, the new one comes with a jumper wire, you can splice the old jumper to the new heater.Make sure you replace the defrost timer if it's mechanical.

    • @billmurphy1335
      @billmurphy1335 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just cut it with a wire stripper and add connector

      I know your question was 2 years ago but this same thing just happened in our freezer. The blue wire burned out at the end. Can you let me know what you did to fix yours? Buy the wires separately? Reattach new wires? Thanks and let me know.

      If you can provide your model number we can check to see if you can get those connectors on their own, but you may have to replace the wires completely.

    I replaced my heater and worked fine until it messed up again. When I went to replace it, I noticed one end of the heater where the wire connects it was melted and the wire was burnt. Any ideas why?

    • @appliancepartspros

      The defrost thermostat could have failed allowing the heater to get too hot. Check to see if the thermostat has continuity at 50°F.

      If it is a overseas model you will probably have to look locally. The models we have access to are sold here and all use 110V.
