  • With Jackery being the top brands for Overlanders when looking at a portable power station to power a fridge, we take a look at the Jackery Explorer 1000 and compare it to its little brother, the Jackery Explorer 500, and see which one is the better option for Overlanders and how well it works as a home emergency backup power option. We also look at the Jackery SolarSaga 100 solar panels.

    I have 1000, 500, 300, 240 I know some people would think this is over kill but there was a power outage that we experienced that lasted for two days and we were able to keep the refrigerator and our large frizzer going, we didn’t lose any food and were still able to charge our electronic devices. I had all my solar panels charging each unit every day.
    I believe that with good planning you can make it through difficult times.
    Great video thank You for sharing.

      YOUR COMMENT ON THE JACKERY 1000. You mentioned that you were able to run your refrigerator and large freezer with this device. I literally know nothing about solo and in desperate need really quickly. My question is what type and how many solar panels do I need? I am totally lost

    We have used the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

    Although the Jackery Explorer 1000 can’t power the heater; you can use a electric blanket that will be more efficient and last longer. I think that Jackery is going to launch their new and much more powerful unit soon this March. We’ll see what Jackery is going to offer this time around. Great video by the way.

      Hi there could I ask a question please. I am looking to buy a solar powered generator for myself as I am on my own and live in Ireland and would not be surprised if there will be power cuts soon as they have been hinting at it. So, I rent right now but do also have some land. I would be looking for something portable that could sustain just a couple of appliances but also if push came to shove might be able to run a mini fridge say. I was recommended Power Oak 700. Is this the same as the Bluetti? Somebody said it was. I am a musician so The jackery also seems more portable if I was to use it for busking in the meantime also. Any and all of your advice would be appreciated. Thank you so much

      Great video! I agree with your point about the Jackery 1000 not being able to power a heater. An electric blanket is definitely a more efficient option. Can't wait to see what Jackery has in store for their new unit. Speaking of portable power stations, have you checked out the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series? It offers massive capacity, fast recharging, and versatile sockets. It might be worth considering for your outdoor adventures and home backup power needs. Keep up the great content!

    Great video! I have the Jackery 1000, picked it up late last year when Jackery was running a sale. I haven't had much of an opportunity to really use it yet, that will happen soon (but not soon enough!). I've got an ICECO VL60 dual-zone fridge that will be the primary consumer but I also want to be able to run some form of heat in the cooler weather if needed, be it a diesel heater, 12v blankets, etc. If I could find the "ideal" diesel heater setup then that would be perfect since that would help fight or eliminate condensation in the RTT. There are just so many diesel heater options out there (I say that but really they seem to be rebrands or copies of each other from China in terms of budget heaters) with mixed reviews it makes it a little difficult to pull the trigger. If anyone has recommendations for a solid, self-contained diesel heater that they've had good luck with then I'm all ears. Lack of heat has been the biggest reason why we haven't gone out since last fall.

    • @OzarkOverlandAdventures
      @OzarkOverlandAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    12:19 Keep in mind there's no load on that impact driver, if you don't have something to put it under load then take a look at the power draw on the tool itself. It's probably 7A so under load it could draw close to 850w. Still nothing the Jackery 1000 can't handle!

    When you plug a window air conditioner, or I’m guessing rooftop A/C unit into a power source, it won’t turn on the compressor for 3 minutes. It does this in case there’s been a power outage. If you were drawing less than 200 watts with the rooftop unit plugged in, most likely only the blower was running. You should have waited a few minutes for the compressor to cycle on. Most A/C units have very high current draw on startup. Maybe more than even the Jackery 1000 can handle.

    Hi, glad I just came across your channel. I am getting into a Ford Transit for “full time “ living at least for 3-4 months at a time. Since it’s something new for me I was thinking getting the Jackary 1000 with the 2 solar panels to have capacity for a fridge, one burner induction stove, heating blanket, charging phone and pad. My question is if you would go this route or jump right into a full battery package that would give me the option of the other charge alternatives.

    • @OzarkOverlandAdventures
      @OzarkOverlandAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think a Jackery 1000 is enough to adequately power all that. Induction stoves and heating blankets use a lot of power. I'd go with a 2000wh option like the Bluetti AC200P or just do it right and do 200ah Lithium batteries and a Redarc BCDC1250 charger. I have a couple videos on my setup and comparing to the Jackery 1000. Those might be helpful.

  • @dieseldrax

    Jackery lists the USB-C ports as 12v up to 3A, so 36w, not 18w. Still not 60w like some others, but better than 18w. The USB-A QC 3.0 port is up to 12v and up to 1.5A so that is 18w.

    Before anyone buys anything I think there is a Jackery event coming up this week (Jackery Days March 17) and they are releasing new products. Just an FYI
    Oh, and they really need to get rid of that handle! It's obtrusive. They should make the top flat just like the Japanese models.

    Can you please make a video of how to charge both of these with the 30/50w rv electric hookups that are common in campgrounds. I can't find that info ANYWHERE. Also would love to know how to plug the dometic into one of those power supplies as well so i dont have to use my car or the jackery if we are at a sute with hookups. My kids and I aren't always off grid but these 2 things are biig struggle points. Thanks

      @@OzarkOverlandAdventures I don't own the Jackery, but I was reading the literature a while ago and I seem to recall that it won't allow it to be discharged to the point of damaging the battery. That being said, they all have lifespan based on the number of charge/discharge cycles.

    I was shocked that a 500w battery pack powered my daughter's LG linear compressor home fridge for around 9 hours. This was after sitting approximately 3 hours after the power went out before the backup was plugged in. If it had been plugged in earlier and not lost so much temperature due to the 3-hour gap it would have lasted much longer I think. This was also with the Baldr 519w.

    Maybe I'm just missing something.
    If you use this to run the air conditioning, or other high draw stuff, the Jac is down to almost nothing in the morning. What do you do when there is no sun or cloudy to charge?
    I think these are great for portable fridges like your Dometic (nice) or other small draw 12 Volt appliances.

  • @gman125
    @gman125 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Convenient compact items for sure. But what's the long term outlook for these? Batteries are consumables and I always wonder about longevity for my buck. Do you know what the recharge cycle count are on these units? 200, 300, 500 cycles? Are the batteries replaceable, when the cycles are used up? Just curious.

    • @OzarkOverlandAdventures
      @OzarkOverlandAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      500 cycles to 80% capacity on the Jackery. Batteries aren't replaceable. But that's a lot of run time. Say you used it every weekend and drained it each weekend. That would still get you almost 10 years before it maxed at 80% capacity and then it still works, just not at max charge. That's a lot of life!

    • @Don-md6wn
      @Don-md6wn ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OzarkOverlandAdventures The newer Jackery 1000 Pro is rated for 1000 cycles to full charge before it maxes out at 80%, and it charges from 0 to 100% on an AC outlet in under 2 hours (which I verified the first time I charged mine out of the box) versus 7 hours for the regular 1000. Those are huge improvements and the 2 things I would have chosen to be upgraded. The under 2 hour charging time is huge, particularly if you have an AC outlet in your vehicle.

    What is the actual lifespan of this Jackery 1000 generator. Certainly it would depend on its usage so using it moderately, summer camping and emergency only home use - would you say 5 years, 10 years? Or more ?

    TO CLARIFY: U CONTINUALLY PRONOUNCE THE BLUETTI AS BLUE YETTY…which may confuse people since YETI also makes portable power stations! THIS IS EXACTLY WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO PRONOUNCE WORDS/NAMES CLEARLY & CORRECTLY!

    The problem with these units is they take too long to charge from a vehicle they need to ditch the assessory plug in or add an Anderson plug that can take 30 amps or more since most alternators are 30 amps or more and by adding an Anderson plug from your battery to were you keep your solar generator since vehicles use the body and frame for the negative so all you need is a 10 gauge or 12 from your battery and a short peice from your vehicle body or frame so it's cheap to add
