- This week I'm finally coming round to doing a tour of my Macintosh Quadra 700. We're having a look outside, inside and at the history of this particular machine.
I'm also setting it up with the Macintosh Color Display that I got hold of recently and we're actually taking this setup online to post on the social media platform Mastondon with the app Macstodon, se link below.

I still have mine! Worked in an Apple Store whole summer and managed to buy one at the time at staff price (I was 19). I loved it! I remember doing ray tracing with stratavision!! A week to render a still image 😜
Great that you still have it! 👍 Patience was a virtue 😁
I appreciate your approach to retro computers, as I myself also think that it should be as close to the original as intended, with all its pros and cons. That is the beauty of it. An alternative can be considered if one absolutely has to, for various reasons.
Thanks, yes that's where I'm at currently. That said, I'm very thankful for modern initiatives for when the old components inevitably give up - and some like hard drives can't really be fixed.
Loved this look at the Quadra700. Was fortunate enough to get one myself last year. My absolute fav classic Mac. (repost 😊)
I'm guessing that the editor's choice of putting the Quadra 700 in that (third) position on its side, was due to a photographic/design choice for the layout. They probably thought it looked better or more cool, or something.
I'd love to see a video on changing the caps in the power supply as i have no idea how to do that on my quadra
I’ll make sure to include that in a future video on quadra improvements 👍
The expansion card has a 16MHz 68000 of its own, Apple only stopped selling 8MHz 68000 machines about 18 months before that card came out...
You mean the Leonardo XL?
That’s the one
@@OtterlyInsane Ok! Any pointers on where I could read up more on this card?
those ports look like db-9. I think it was one of the standard serial cables from the time.
Yeah, that sounds about right - I wonder about the double ports…some pass-through?
Great video!
Thanks!
The proxy thing sounds cool. Does that allow you to browse most modern websites?
Yes, it’s quite good actually and strips sites down to text - some are too complex though.
use a knife or screwdriver heated with torch or on stovetop and simply rub the branded area until it is flat again and all the letters /numbers are filled back in it will take 5 minutes to make it look like it was never there
Thanks, that’s an option - one would lose the original texture though and I like that I have the backstory for this particular branding :)
wow
