Hands down my favourite youtube channel right now! Doesn’t have much production budget and not doing anything crazy, just a great personality and diy skills!
Thank you for the shout out man 😁 I made a plywood splitter and lasted well over a year in UK weather and it got hit off alot of stuff. Definitely recommended to anyone if you want a cheap option that doesn't cost alot!
Spoolie ST got one on my astra lol broke to many plastic grp ones lol . im just waiting till it starts looking tatty then just replace it (free wood from work ) #win
BUILT I would think best bet would be to find a shop either going out of business or upgrading their mill. A decent Klutch mini Milling machine would run about $825 shipped on amazon. Which doesn’t the price of bits to do the specific jobs you want to do. It would definitely be an investment if you want to start making your own parts.
to do a good quality diy slot, drill a hole at both ends first, when you feel the blade drop into the hole, quickly pull the grinder out. leaves round ends
Bro this my first video watching, I absolutely enjoyed your humble sense of character, how you are with your kid. I had a terrible and you reminded me what matters, your passion and mostly family. God bless 🙏🏼 I have subscribed and hit the notification bell, looking forward to your next video.
wow! my car's splitter and exhaust is insane! so dope. i was going to put an s4 exhaust on it too. you're doing so many things I planned to do! great minds think alike. s/o to the subscriber who helped our build!
Not the best materials to make a splitter but I know it’s all about diy budget, either way it looks awesome man, I would recommend vinyl wrapped so it keeps humidity off of it
Thank you for the covers on the bumper sections... with everything you have done to this car it all looks amazing, those have stuck out to me so much because everything else looks so finished. Great work as usual man, keep it up!!!
when you are making slots for mounting stuff. just drill holes tight together and remove the material in between the holes with a cutoff wheel or a file, just make sure that the holes are alined and it will look super clean
I have a suggestion for slotting your mounts. If you have access to a plasma cutter, that ought to give you a cleaner cut. If you can't get the rectangle in 4cuts (desired cut is too thin), you can just make vertical cuts moving over an eighth of an inch at a time.
I would have gone with fiber glass for weight purposes, but i feel the wood would (hehe) be much more sturdy. Good for you, man! Look at you doing your thing. So happy to watch people do this instead of drugs and wasting their lives away. Keep on keepin on! Edit: You're awesome, bro!
Great idea for those that can't afford ABS. Also, you could completely coat the wood with fiberglass resin and matting. Actually, this is how early fiberglass bodies were made (dune buggy bodies from the '70's). Running boards for vans were made this way too (fiberglass over a wood structure). By coating it with something it would last even longer and look even neater. ;)
I was JUST watching how to make these yesterday; all of them made out of an ABS plastic sheet. Glad to see you can make it out of plywood! *What thickness is the plywood??* P.S. Nice use of the Scotty Kilmer theme music 🤣👍😂
Also maybe a circular file to smooth out the slots. Like drill a hole. Cut with saw, file out the excess. I feel like that's the best way to make slots in your metal without some kind of special thing
Only tip coming from a fitter turner engineer would be be more careful and straighter with the angle grinder take your time and get the cuts evenly spaced by like 20 ml and then drill the ends to disconnect the inner piece. ( the part holding on the splitter )

@@BUILTOFFICIAL nice. I started with a chinese prusa i3 clone and moved up to a folgertech ft-5( pita to assemble) I've wanted to figure out a way to do 3d scanning for a while so I could scan body panels on my car and use that to digitally build a wide body kit off of. Then print in sections and fiberglass off of. The best part would be that you could easily mirror the parts on the pc and have both sides but only have to model one side. I know no one makes a wide body kit for my car so if I could do so and create a mold I could make pieces from it may be a money maker.
BUILT hang off one side of bucket. Use a weight to hole metal on top and let the metal just fall to ground. Lifting on the piece (or 2 buckets and cutting in middle) will cause the weight to push into the blade and can pinch it and spit it out
You could use a thinner wood. Then wrap it with actual carbon fiber have it clear coated and have a nice clean looking splitter that would last alot longer and be alot more rigid. The wood would be a great base to cover in carbon

you should spray it with raptor liner
only the bottom for durability

Nice job, maybe you should cover all the plywood with a thin layer of bondo, to protect it more from water and leave a nicer finish.

I made a splitter out of 1/4" birch... It didn't survive the test drive.
Yeah, 1/4" is too light, but racecars have used plywood for years. 5/8 or 3/4 and it would be fine.
