- Dragon’s Dogma 2 hits PS5 on 22 March and there’s never been an RPG quite like it. Okay, there’s Dragon’s Dogma 1, but the point stands: this is an RPG with a unique take on every genre convention. As Rob and Rosie talk you through our Dragon’s Dogma 2 gameplay you’ll see pawn companions, emergent monster battles and enjoy the arcade snap of combat. You can tell the Devil May Cry team had a hand in this.
If you’ve read any Dragon’s Dogma 2 review you’ll know that Capcom’s open world action RPG doesn’t behave like a Skyrim or Elden Ring. It moves at a measured pace, rewarding careful exploration over long journeys, requiring you to prep for the cruel nights and random beast attacks. That isn’t to say it’s dry: you start off making a Dragons Dogma 2 character, letting your imagination run wild with the character creator. Do you want to go adventuring with Kratos, Aloy or Ichiban from Like a Dragon? Go right ahead.

Thank you for this video. Rob and Rosie sharing their experiences sounded like my ttrpg friends talking about their last game session. It shows that _Dragon's Dogma_ is exactly the dynamic and ever-changing game I want to play.
You were some of the first large creators I saw actually giving the game a fair go despite it going under the radar. So happy that you’ve been having a great time with the sequel, and I’ll absolutely be using your official pawns!

This year is definitely going to be the year of the RPG for me. Already finished Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, playing Rebirth now. Gonna play Dragon's Dogma 2 afterwards and then I'm finally going to pick up Final Fantasy 16. That's a lot of hours! 😅
I just finished rebirth and 16, which isn’t too heavy on the rpg elements. Going to start BG3 next!
16 is one game in that list I would say you can skip. But if you do play it, hopefully you enjoy it!
I liked 16 more than Rebirth.
Have to say, avoid ff16. Should not be allowed in the same list as your other games.

Something that jumps out at me following on from the original Dragon’s Dogma is that there’s no advanced vocation for archers and thieves. In the first game Strider upgraded into Ranger, allowing access to longbows and some crazy powerful long-range attacks; here they’ve split the Strider class into separate bow and dagger classes (which I can get behind if it allows them to add more depth and variety to those playstyles), but neither has an advanced equivalent. It’s especially odd since the Fighter and Mage still have their advanced versions in the Warrior and Sorcerer. Seems like the other two classes are getting screwed over.
Not necessarily, tho I see how it would seem that way. A lot of the skills from Strider, Ranger, and Assassin have been divided between Thief and Archer, so a lot of those really powerful skills are still present. I do wish they had advanced vocations, but with how loaded the two seem already I’m not sure what more they could do with them aside from making a hybrid out of the two, but that would just leave you with Strider in the end
All the advanced classes involve magic bc the second act (Battalh) really pushes you to switch to a magic class

Last night, I fell probably 100ft from a Griffin, and one of my pawns caught me (the video is on my page) cementing this as one of the greatest games I've ever played. I thought I was totally screwed but a player's pawn *THANK YOU SOPHIA* absolutely saved my life. Allies proving themselves effortlessly worthy!

I am definitely excited for this playing one dark arisen again in anticipation for this.
So many people are whining and hating on the game in the comments without even playing it, if you're not interested in the game stop watching videos about it and get on with your life.

glad you watched don't think you ever need to worry about spoilers the access crew are always careful when it comes to story spoilers even if an old game gets remastered or a game is like 3+ years old they'll still give a spoiler warning. Have fun with the game :)

Yes you can. But you need a rift stone for it or some other item.
Definitely plan on getting it at some point. Still need to play the first game
My new year’s resolution was not to go crazy with preorders but this was one of a handful I chose in Q1/2.. I’d have probably went for Rebirth but being my ps4 save kinda glitched I was forced to replay the previous installment on ps5 from scratch.. So I’ll wait on that til I’m done.. DD2 will probably be my default go to this spring & summer.. Can’t wait til it arrives! In the meantime I got 2 copies of DD1 in the collection both physical & digital lol

I've been playing Dark Arisen to see if I'd be interested in Dragons Dogma...and its SO GOOD! I was gonna wait and play this after finishing but don't think I can. I've preordered now and I can't wait to play!

I’ve never played Dragons Dogma before but with this hire pawn system, can you swap anytime or at certain points or is it once’s you’ve chosen it that’s it for your party?
You make your main pawn, who is always with you, and then you fill the remaining two spots with pawns you can recruit and dismiss at will. In fact, it's encouraged - it costs nothing to hire a pawn your same level, but they won't level up, so you need to keep replacing them to keep up with the difficulty curve. Hope that helps!

I don't know if it's gonna work with the story, but my pawn is the brother of my main. it's basically a male version of my main character (and it looks a lot like Thimotée Chalamet with freckles and brown hair) I didn't know pawns could die. I'm quite stressed now...

Nope. You travel by foot or ox cart. You can fast travel but that cost some sort of crystal

All these videos are killing me. How am I supposed to wait for another two days without losing my mind? How am I supposed to work during the day? This makes me feel like a kid again. I haven’t felt so excited about a game for such a long time, not even when Elden ring and BG 3 launched.

Been having a BLAST with this game. I never got far in DD1, it never captured me, but my god this game has. One of the few open world games where I have the need to explore every part of the map. Only other game to do this for me is RDR2. The combat feels perfectly balanced, night time is absolutly terrifying. Honestly this might be my GOTY so far.
Only real complaint I have is the inability to manage saves. I was doing a quest to protect an oxencart and it got attacked by a cyclops AND a griffon at the same time, and it got hit and kinda glitched and flew up into the atomsphere. I couldn't complete the quest. Only thing I could do was go back to the last time I saved at an inn, about an hour of progress lost becaus I had saved while on the road, but it autosaved just as combat had ended.
So if your main pawn dies they are gone forever? Man I really have to protect my Gandalf
No, you can summon them again. But you'll have to live with the sad memory...

So you can't hire the same pawn after they died?
Of course you can but they can be underleveled to you for a while. If they have an active player it will level up with the player. If he levels like you the pawn becomes updated for you when he take a rest.

Is Dragon's Dogma 2 really hard?
Not really. Certain vocations (classes) are harder to get to grips with and need more protection in the early game, but it's quite easy to get into its groove.
I know it's immature but I still get a tiny kick hearing the word pawn with a British accent 😂😂

It has also brought me away from Final Fantasy Rebirth. 50 hours in and having the best time.
I didn't play the original DD, I had the impression that pawns' dialogues and lines could get repetitive and annoying. I hope that's been improved for DD2, since you seem to be gushing a lot about the pawns' companionship. I really like having party companions, I hope this is not just hype but actual cool allies and characters for you to fight alongside.

I hope that everyone who buys this game enjoys it, but Rise of the Rōnin is my most anticipated game, so I opted in getting that game instead. 😁

@@bigzachful personally it depends on what you prefer, Wukong is a souls-like and DD2 is an open-world rpg, they're very different games. I love souls-likes but I've been wanting a good fantasy rpg so imo I'm more excited for DD2.

You're right, I've never played an RPG that charges me real money every time I want to change my character's appearance. Or fast travel, or get new pawns..
It doesn't though. You find ferrystones (for fast travel) in game, you can find and buy and item to change your appearance in the world and you earn rift crystals by playing the game, which are used to hire higher level pawns. Pawns of your own level are free to hire. Get your facts straight before you make a fool of yourself.
