The first game still had quest markers on your map and compass, so it's not like Morrowind where you have to actually read what's written in your quest log to get to where you need to be going. The quest markers are just not hovering over the relevant objects/NPCs in the game world itself.

What’s going on nowadays is that todays games are being played like back in PS3 and 360 era, when games drop below 30 frames because of the intense particle effects, but most definitely with the PS3. The PS3 was powerful, but the focus wasn’t on faster frame rates or even better graphics, but how massive the game can be made. And PS3 is famous and infamous for massive open world games that play wonderfully gameplay wise, but tank hard in frame rates.
The game is playable on PC play it mobile on Go all the time with Bazzite os. It is extremely ram intensive not the games fault...Bazzite has zram...windows has page file...make them bigger and dd2 will run on PC now...remember no yellow tape use your fucking brain
I know this review is weeks old, but for the 'Prey for the Pack' quest you mentioned broke, did you take Rodge back to Morris? I didn't see the yellow NPC marker on your map so it doesn't look like the boy was with you, but you have to make sure he follows you all the way from the cave back to Morris to complete the quest. (Yeah, the wording 'inform Morris of Rodge's wellbeing' is misleading). I had the same problem with this quest and had to make 2 trips back to the cave for the boy, really annoying, lol.
I had the exact same problem for both those NPCs. I guess the game struggles with having NPCs keep up with the player (I guess the kid got stuck on something on my way back to town and I didn't notice) no idea where the other guy went until after I failed his quest
Looks like one of those games I'll have to play because the footage and reviews aren't selling me. Unrelated but I never gave Advance Wars a shot because I thought the same and recently got into it and it's amazing. So I think i'll have to give Dragons Dogma a shot at some point Anyway not sure I've commented before but I enjoy all your videos - nice job as usual :)
They took out way to many of the mage and sorcerers skills, while adding nothing. Vocations are horribly underwhelming, the armor choice was ultimately reduced. Then there's the matter of monster variety and locations. It all just comes together to be the most lackluster sequel you could make after a decade of fans waiting.
They added plenty and specialized classes to feel more unique, most skills that were “taken out” were either given to other vocations or made into core skills. You’re also wrong, Mages are actually useful the whole game now and sorcerer also got plenty of additions like Galvanize. Could people be less disingenuous with proper criticism?
@@HHTwice Really, perhaps you should look up the definition for disingenuous. Your blatant dismissal of facts to validate your own perspective is far more deserving of the word. I'll spare you the effort and strain of using your low brow wit and responding by arguing semantics, and other vapid accusations. The reality is, you lack the capacity for critical thinking and are upset someone has a differing opinion so you regurgitate whatever phrases you've read off of forums that align with your point of view. lmao, the rant about the pawns being annoying is oddly comforting for some reason. it's one of the things that drove everyone crazy about the first game, and it's almost endearing that it's also a problem here. we're coming home.
I think it is unfair to blame PS5 for the performance thing as it is not its fault. We have seen the new generation exclusive games like Ragnarok and Spiderman 2 to run flawlessly. It has to do with the developers and how they optimise the game for the consoles. Another example is that Tears of the Kingdom runs well on Switch but Pokemon does not
@@NeonKnight that's true. I think I may have incorrectly phrased it, but I meant to say the same thing as you and gave the same examples too, that it is a bad precedent which the game developer companies have set. This in turn often, but not always, is echoed by some reviwers that developing for PS5 is bad and PC will run it better. Also, I just want to say that I absolutely love your Witcher 3 content! It is informative, well researched and fun to watch, keep up the great work that you do! PS: I know you were excited for the PC release of Dragon's Dogma 2, but from all the initial online reviews it looks like a trainwreck because of hidden micro transactions for even the basic things. And of course the single save controversy. I will eagerly await your review of the same!

People criticizing Elden ring for a lack of enemy variety are crazy that game had probably the most enemy variety in a while, I was hoping DD2 will have different types of enemies than 1 but so far I’ve seen the same stuff, hopefully the bring more on future updates or a dlc
I am also a 'veteran' player. I have probably around 1000 hours (or more) across Xbox, PlayStation, and pc in the original. I wrote an essay of a review on steam explaining my thoughts and opinions on the game. To keep it short, I found the game really enjoyable however in my opinion it came no where close to being as good as the first game and sadly did not satisfy my need for a fantastic sequel to the first game. My older brother was the person who introduced me to dragons dogma when I was around 11 and it has been something we bonded over for many years. Sadly, he didn't even play it for more than 30 hours due to bugs and crashes causing progress to be erased. We both also found the gameplay a little dry and not as engaging as the first game. The classes were something that annoyed me personally; not being able to play strider for daggers AND bow was disappointing. Especially when there are clear cut better classes (THIEF) in the game and outright terrible classes (ARCHER). This meant that something we have been yearning for these last years has not lived up to our expectation. It was a good game but sadly not as good as we hoped.
One of the reviews online that said this was on par with Elden Ring must have played a different game? DD2 feels like it's 2 generations behind, from a story, gameplay, and performance perspective. The whole, "fast travel is only boring because your game sucks" comment from the director must have not played his own game. There are glimmers of greatness in it, but it gets bogged down by the endless backtracking you have to do. Hope you like fighting the same hordes of enemies over and over again while you do so because the enemy variety is non existent. I don't understand how this is the game you release after 12 years. It feels outdated and undercooked.
Elden Rings open world is largely meaningless aside from pretty visuals and reuses enemies like crazy. Yet you have an issue with those things in this game 😂
@@HHTwice Elden Ring does a better job at incentivizing the player for exploring by finding new weapons, gear, or bosses. Just like DD2 it also doesn't hold your hand either. Only difference is that it doesn't waste your time and effort. I wish this game was multiplayer. It would have been so cool to have 3 friends/ other players in your party. 3 NPCs that say the same few things and don’t “understand” what abilities to use in specific situations, gets VERY old. I made my main pawn a healer-only mage after leveling most of their vocations, and it never uses the support abilities I NEED at the right time. Example using the mage ultimate ability at the very end of the fight, only to be left behind because the ability ended and they are laying in the ground with 0 stamina. 😑
Currently playing on PC with a PS5 controller because I heard about the console issues (about 25h in). There it runs quite smoothly at 60 FPS even in the big city. But I am not running at at the highest settings (running it on high). However I also heard of performance issues on PC. That is runs so poorly on consoles is a disgrace. Also thanks for the tip with the harpies. I was wondering how to reach those chests :D. Also an interesting choice not to mention the microtransaction that are masked as DLC. Currently I am not experiencing places where I am incentivised to buy. I am in no need of more rift crystals (you don't need them for summoning pawns at your level) and quick travel is very very cheap. So currently I cannot see game design decisions that were just made with the DLCs in mind which was a pleasant surprise. Maybe you felt the same so it wasn't worth mentioning. As always. Great video.
What a lot of people forget is that yes, during the day there are the usual boring enemies like goblins, wolves and harpies but at NIGHT the enemy types changes to zombies, skeletons and phantoms. Yes, they are the grunt types and not too challenging but many reviewers don’t mention the enemy changes at night time which gives the game a different feel and atmosphere.
Ok so, repeatedly heard you say, "...goblins, wolves, and harpies is all you'll see for the first several hours." I'm not disagreeing with you, if you stay on the main roads, but if you explore, what the game devs intended, that will not be the case. In my 3rd hour I went into a cave and fought multiple types of enemies, including a chimera. That's why dd2 is such a great game, everything is up to you as a player.

Fighting a couple goblins in the beginning of the game was enough for me to turn the game off. You mash a single button for combat. Thats the game. I was actually mind blown that I literally couldn’t do anything else in combat than a single swing of my sword. There’s no lock on so you just attack randomly at whatever is near you I guess? Idk the combat in this game feels like I’m playing a game back on 2005.

@@ProbablyLying Yeah, like in Elden Ring or Dark Souls you do anything else than spam a single button. The gist with Elden Ring/Dark Souls and games like Dragon's Dogma is not that the player has much of an expansive moveset - it is always the enemies you face against, and learning what strengths they have in order to be able to fight them more efficiently.

the story does get very good? did we play a different game? Every main story thread I cared about is left unexplored and the game rushes to a climax when I felt i was 50% through it at most. Very few games have made me actively upset, the last 20% of this game did. i'm annoyed at this game because I wanted to like it but so much of it is frustrating. The first 15 hours were gripping and great and felt like it might be goty but there's very little enemy variety, the pawns need far more voice lines than they have. the pawn AI is infuriating, the world feels fake (no penalty for stealing or murder), the vocations are poorly balanced (sorcerer maister spells delete encounters, fighter maister spell does like one health bar on a stunned enemy). Exploration feels meaningful at first, but then you realize almost all of the best gear is sold at vendors. every cave is painfully similar, and devoid of any real challenge. Halfway through the game everything stops being a challenge, especially with pause menu + infinite healing. until you become overpowered the combat is generally fun! I like the pawn system. Exploring was fun until the game's facade fell away. it looks nice. but it suffers from having awful story, boring npcs, bad voice acting, bad performance, cut content, bad balancing. i'd give it like a 5/6 out of 10... lots of skeleton here, but it really needed a few more years in the oven.

I get games have their themed worlds but I think the Art or themes of the world look very drab like its only a green hill zone and a desert area, after elden ring and Zelda they really needed to up the colors in their world, it does not look interesting if you want to see gameplay to see if the world "calls" you to play it.
This is an incredibly silly comment lol I love all the colorful places in Elden Ring, but it would feel completely out of place in this game. Honestly, I really appreciate your overall thoughts on the performance. You acknowledged the fact that it was nowhere near ideal given the fact that it is a $70 game being released in 2024 (aka criticism without being toxic) but you also didn’t act like it makes the game unplayable (aka toxic criticism) like so many others have been doing. I personally don’t care all too much about a game’s frame rate as long as it still looks good and feels good to play and although some of the footage you used does look like it could get annoying at times, a lot of other PS5 footage I’ve seen has looked more or less fine meaning the performance issues on PS5 seems to be inconsistent from console to console.
being "inconsistent from console to console" sounds extremely unlikely and sounds like a rather large huff of copium to be honest. The far more likely explanation is the simplest and most commonly pointed out one: that the game just runs extremely inconsistently and like total crap at times.
@@CosmicAeon I do not mean the issues existence are inconsistent from console to console, simply that its inconsistency means it may never have notable issue son one console while it will on another and is almost comparable to luck.
it depends on how bad the issues are. If the game still runs at 60+ FPS it's all fine. If it dips below that, it's an issue. Because the performance problems were 100% preventable if Capcom had decided not to ship the game with malicious bloatware because they actively want to kill the modding community for their games.
Your review and video capture looks like a nearly exact repeat of the first game. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I'd really be interested in hearing a more detailed comparison between the 2 games.

The pawns talk to each other now! Which is really often very cute. Got to be honest.... Best rpg i played in awhile, and they don't hold your hand unlike others, you have to get lost in this game to get a grasp of the world, the side quest are just as meaningful as the main quest, even not talking to certain npcs you can miss out on something that was in someone else's playthrough, i'm only halfway through the main story since release date trying to 100 percent it the first time, i've already messed up letting the patient die in the church, because i didn't know you can check with another npc to help him smh, but thats the beauty of the game even side quest have multiple endings and different rewards, can't wait for dlc
DD2 is a solid 6/10, maybe 7 if they can actually fix the performance issues, especially in the city areas. It's an average RPG, not great, and the majority of users reviews reflect that score/opinion. The story and NPC interactions are mediocre, the quests are forgettable, and performance is poorly coded/unoptimized. The combat against normal enemies is just 'spam attack button' and is extremely repetitive with many hours just facing goblins, harpies and wolves (as mentioned in this video review). The overall difficulty is very easy, and I haven't died in the 20+ hours I've put into it so far. Sure, dont hire pawns then... but isn't that a major feature of the game? The only positive about the combat is against larger creatures as was the case with the original game. Im currently taking a break from DD2 as it's starting to feel like a slog just to get to the end of it. Maybe a few major patches (and mods) will change my mind. 😊
One of the things I hate about this game is when the goblins and whatever other enemy that's in the area just gangbang the hell out of my character. Like freaking why
Ugh hated it. Felt like DD 1.5 instead of a sequel. All enemies reused, barely any new spells, poor performance, just mediocre for a dozen years later.

Because it's not just graphics that make a game lag, dd2 runs mostly fine but in cities it's bad because of how many npcs there are.

The more I learn about this game the more I'm interested in trying it. I'm intrigued by the Morrowind-esque lack of quest markers for example so it feels like it will play somewhat differently compared to other RPGs. Sounds interesting to me.
The first game still had quest markers on your map and compass, so it's not like Morrowind where you have to actually read what's written in your quest log to get to where you need to be going. The quest markers are just not hovering over the relevant objects/NPCs in the game world itself.
Just make sure you get your character right from start, or you gotta spend some money ingame to change it... or pay via microtransaction...

The first game is like $5 right now so might be worth giving a try to see if you like the style of game.
Yeah, I'd try the first game if you've never played it. It is pretty cheap right now.

I think it is unfair to blame PS5 for the performance thing as it is not its fault. We have seen the new generation exclusive games like Ragnarok and Spiderman 2 to run flawlessly. It has to do with the developers and how they optimise the game for the consoles. Another example is that Tears of the Kingdom runs well on Switch but Pokemon does not
True cyberpunk runs at flawless 60 fps in a humongous city on console, so other games have no excuse
I didn't blame the PS5. I literally said every other game I've played on it played beautifully, and that this one just runs like shit.
@@NeonKnight that's true. I think I may have incorrectly phrased it, but I meant to say the same thing as you and gave the same examples too, that it is a bad precedent which the game developer companies have set. I also waited. But now I don’t care.
And people complain about enemy variety in Elden ring 😂 Elden ring shits on the enemy and boss veriety of 99% of games.
Ive never heard anyone complain about enemy variety in elden ring. Maybe bosses but not regular enemies
The problem with elden ring is thats it so big that they have to reuse enemies and then it feels repetitive by 2/3 the way through
What, huh? Who says this?
Ok so, repeatedly heard you say, "...goblins, wolves, and harpies is all you'll see for the first several hours."
I'm not disagreeing with you, if you stay on the main roads, but if you explore, what the game devs intended, that will not be the case.

God damn I should have fuckin waited before buying until you got to the performance chapter. For fuck sake this is unacceptable to have a game in 24 and its fuckin 30 or bellow what the fuck I should have bought it on my powerfull PC. But I heard the performance there is fuckin shit too....
It sucks on PC too ...
@@jaimeperry7326 so I heard I bought it on PS5 since its easier to make a game for a consoles because they have the same hardware. I didnt realize it fuckin sucks on console too
@@budlikycz2445it’s bad everywhere
I remember when I first played Ekdrn Ring on my pc.
It was absolutely awful for me. But later on I still managed to get over 130 hours in the game.
You'll be alright, it's a wonderful game. One of a kind
I just dont get how anyone would say the game looks good, im playing on series s but that doesnt explain why things look like a 360 game
i think the problem with DD2 (and DD1) isn't the game itself per se. It's that the game design is inherently divisive, you'll either love it or hate it. Hence the fluctuating scores/
Honestly I didn't love nor hate DD1. It was above average, but not close to making my top 10
Arisen: Ok remember to keep an eye out for anything of value.
The Pawns: Master I have found a rock!
In all seriousness though, I guess it's good to know somethings about the Pawns haven't changed. I just wish it was a little more for the better, not that this kills my excitement for the game.
The pawns talk to each other now! Which is really often very cute. My pawn is a “sensible old man” type and I hired one that was like a golden retriever, just always excited and running ahead and picking up shiny things. I swear the 2 of them interacted so much and ended up having a “father-son” dynamic lol
@@wren1028 Yeah, that was one of the things that excited me about this game, while yes what they had to say in Dark Arisen was helpful it was also very repetitive. I've cycled through a bunch of Pawns and so far I'm very impressed, I just reached Lvl 21 and almost maxed out my first Vocation and I haven't felt the urge to find the option that will shut them up yet, I'm hoping it stays that way.
This game looks like something from five years ago
I encountered that too but found out right away that you have to enter the NPC's shop to complete it, like the Pawn that was leading you that quest showed you when we arrived.
what about the micro transactions or the fact you cant start a new game?
there are micro transactions and also you cant start a new game. there, that covers it.
Micro transactions can be earned tho game
And new game go to storage and deleted save file
Those issues are so unbelievably miniscule, just enjoy the game as it is
Got to be honest.... My first 10 hours of the game were really shit to be honest....
even in just the tutorial the medusa boss was clipping all over, NPC's in cutscenes were getting stuck everywhere, WAY to much forced slow walking during dialogues. I felt 10 hours in barely played much of the game and was more of a walking simulator to be honest...
Bosses are insanely huge sponges.... and sorta just stare at you for 30 seconds between attacks.
Im glad you touch on how slow/easy/boring the early game is around @4:00. Super unfortunately your fighting goblins for no joke 30+ hours before things open up.
This game has some fun aspects, but overall it's shit. ... especially compared to Elden Ring. Bring on Shadow of the Erdtree.
Love your review! Can't wait to play the game when it comes out!
Feel like the no guide part of the game will get people annoyed and they’ll just be like “ugh this game doesn’t help us do anything or tell us what to do” - guy who complained about yellow hints. That being said it comes out tmwr at 5PM and I already have my wine to play the game with
if it was any other game people would bomb review because of performance. But since its dd2 most people say " its okay it will be fixed" Thanks for being honest. I think il skip. FF7 i bought i cant even played it how bad it is. This one seems even worse
The 30fps has put me off this game completely
Whenever i bring up the point of 30fps being unacceptable on a ps5 today people call me entitled and try to defend it.
I hope they patch it.
This wad a missed opportunity. Seems like they just did a remake rather than a sequel. I may wait for a deep sale or monster hunter wilds
For some reason, your review of the game is the best I came across online 👍🏻
The best one I've seen is "dragon's dogma 2 is a sadistic nightmare" it's a 20 min long vid of the guy complaining and giving it a 9/10 😂
Best rpg i played in awhile, and they don't hold your hand unlike others, you have to get lost in this game to get a grasp of the world, the side quest are just as meaningful as the main quest, even not talking to certain npcs you can miss out on something that was in someone else's playthrough, i'm only halfway through the main story since release date trying to 100 percent it the first time, i've already messed up letting the patient die in the church, because i didn't know you can check with another npc to help him smh, but thats the beauty of the game even side quest have multiple endings and different rewards, can't wait for dlc
Double fighter is such a chad bonk stick start and I respect it 🫡
How does the music hold up against TW2 considering you're using Vergen by Night?
there are very (very) few games that measure up to the Witcher 2 soundtrack, let's be real
I'm sad to hear that the music isn't very memorable
What kind of game has only 3 enemy types for a ton of hours???? This review is in stark contrast to steam reviews that seem to suggest a buggy poorly optimized rushed mess with micro transactions
how exactly is this video in stark contrast to other reviews?
The last 5 minutes are me talking about how it’s the worst optimized game I’ve ever played, and I end the review by saying I think the game is going to take a ton of shit at launch lol
I guess I am mostly irritated by the disgraceful micro transactions to be honest. Thank you for your reply, I have thoroughly enjoyed your content thus far especially the fabulous Witcher 3 content
The problem with this game is that the beginning combat is so boring that it’s really hard to push though the boredom to get to the better attacks. I’m not doing that. The combat right now is so boring that I just can’t do it. Especially with those stupid birds that sing and put you to sleep where you have to run away every time they do it? I wish I just skipped this game. But no, my dumbass preordered this trash.
same here.... I'm Elden Ringing all the way to Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
So you’re getting hard filtered? lol maybe you should go back to Elden Ring where combat is pressing two buttons
looks like im getting rise of the ronin first then this game on ps5 once they have fixed the fps
It's not like Rise of tbe Ronin will run or look good either.
@@TheLloydLightning ROTR runs just fine. Cry about it
Let me know how it is I got on wishlist but preorder DD2 and loving it I get rotr after I beat this a few times
Dude I HAVE to thank you for recommending Thronebreaker, god that was such a great experience.
I was on the fence before but definitely going on my wishlist now. Keep up the good work! You have the best and most interesting commentary on games like this.
I have a Series S so yeah I’ll be waiting for the performance fixes before I buy it. 😢
