You have 220 running into that electrical box in the garage because it is running to the optional laundry space. An electrician could easily add an outlet right by the box and a charger could be mounted to a simple pole so you could take it with you when it is time. Thanks for sharing your move.

Saving money is for a time in your life when u aren’t taking risks. Put ur money to work. Renting for now is great since it gives you that time to look around and focus on your business. Now u can keep an eye out for a good opportunity without feeling rushed.

I agree if you are in the position to be able to jump around from house to house, renting isn't a big deal if you don't plan to spend over 3 years there. Buying is always the best bet for long term (or investment), but in this market I would definitely wait to buy as prices are insane (I bought my house in 2019 for $480k and it's now valued at $900k, but I expect that to drop dramatically in the next year).

Don’t let anyone criticize your finances unless they are willing to make your house payment for you. It’s none of their business. In an insane housing market, flexibility is worth its weight in gold. You will be in a far better position to jump on an amazing opportunity when it comes along (and trust me, it will!).

Sorry you went through so much stress but this was so validating! I’ve made the same mistakes and realized owning a house comes with SO many potential issues and you are responsible for everything. We need to normalize renting. There is nothing wrong with it, you are not ‘throwing your money away’ because you have to live somewhere. Home prices won’t keep rising forever so you might as well rent and have someone else fix all the issues.

I wonder how the housing situation is in the US.
Buying smth, having it for some time, fully renovating it and then getting LESS than what you payed for it seems like a really weird thing.
Here in Europe I could probably buy a house for 600k (if I had the money lol), wait a year and AT LEAST sell it for 650-700k.

    • @maxzett
      @maxzett 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What I genuinely don't get:
Why did you sell at a loss?
Now that you are back at renting, you didn't even need the money. Why not wait to sell at a profit?

  • @swimdude2113

We're right there with yall on the insanity of the home buying process! My wife and I have been trying off and on for two years to buy a house and ran into the exact same problem. Compromise and buy a junk heap or keep renting, ultimately decided for now that renting is still the best deal for us.

  • @vesves_4
    @vesves_4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I honestly think a lot of people deal with this especially with owning your first property. It’s so hard to know what you really want until you jump in, as weird as that sounds. And you have all these expectations and dreams. We bought a house in the suburbs and made a few sacrifices, and we are realizing those things are more important than we thought. Way more important. We screwed up a little there. But we learned and when we move again, we’ll know better.

Great video! Loved it and your honesty. We have just completed our move. It is done and, whilst stressful, it was the best decision. We moved from a 1.5-bedroom apartment to a 4-bed house! I would love it if moving could happen by a magic wand, but hey, it just doesn't. Also, to find a place that meets what you need and a little bit of what you like. Like you guys, it will be great to buy some land and design and build our dream home one day. Ultimately the most important thing is to have a roof over your head! You've got that and a better size too.

👍 for a really refreshing video. Even if it doesn't figure into your regular content going forward, there are some interesting times ahead for residential real estate as inventories remain tight while people get priced out due to rising interest rates. Something has to give and I'm guessing it won't be a single thing but rather a lot if little shifts that will take years before we get an idea of where things are headed. So no outright collapse like over a decade ago but just a slow grind to a new reality that may look very different depending on where you live. States and municipalities will lead with various ideas that will address local and global realities.
Hopefully by the time you and John are "thinking about a family or something like that" you'll have a handle on re-entry into the market and conditions will be better if not perfect.

Hi Sara, the townhouse looks beautiful! And super impressive for $2900/month. My fiancé and I are waiting to move into our new condo, and it's experiencing its own hiccups (like a workers strike causing a delay a week before we were supposed to get our keys!) I totally felt you when you mentioned seeing all your friends/strangers buying homes and renovating them, we're in the same boat here in Toronto, but the houses go for at least 1 million (Canadian!) or will require a bunch of renos because they're so old and that wasn't happening for us with our budget. We're moving from a pretty crappy apartment that's been our home for 10 years, so we're excited to move into a fresh, brand new space with laundry! And air conditioning! But if renting works for you right now, then that's great! The townhouse provides so much space and I think will suit you, John, and Judy really well. Thanks for the video, your personal ones are my favourite to watch. :)

Renting is totally ok if that’s what works for you!!! In 2020 my husband and I were moving to DFW area and started looking at homes. We also had the same realization that we would be pouring our whole life savings into a down payment and still making compromises on what we really wanted. (You know the popular home style down here ugh) And we’d be paying WAY more monthly on a mortgage than on rent. We’re almost 30 and all our friends have giant houses, but we decided it’s just not for us. Renting is not so bad and so much less stress!!

There are so many benefits to renting, especially for younger people. I bought a house at 21 in Minneapolis and sold it at 23 on Feb 28 2020 (talk about lucky timing) and I am renting and enjoying the freedom of no repairs / maintenance and being able to move anywhere with fairly minimal costs if needed without market factors being as much of a consideration.

Renting is great. But it depends on where you are, where you are in life and the laws in your country. Rent is tied down by a lot of laws in my country. The market is open and prices can go up and down, but once you have agreed on the price, the prices are pretty much locked. There's a maximum price increase every year, so you can be confident that you will always be able to afford rent if your life stays stable.
Housing prices are much less stable, so if I wanted to buy the place I live in my mortgage would be a lot more than my rent. And that wouldn't even cover repairs and maintenance, like it does now. Buying is great, because you can do with the house whatever you want and you invest your money in property. Renting is great because your costs are stable and repairs are covered.
I'm not going to buy in the near future. I'm going to wait until either the prices are cooled way down or until I have saved up so much that I could buy a house I would love to live in for the rest of my life.

    Great video.
Don’t get sucked into Instagram where you think ‘everyone has their lives figured out’ - that’s fake and a skewed perception as people never put their vulnerabilities up.
Well don’t for sharing this journey as it’s part of who you are. I’m 42 and still renting (in the uk) cause house prices and paying for things that go wrong totally suck!
Totally understand this video and love the honesty. 👍🏻

We live in a three story townhome and after living in our current one we have decided never again. Too many stairs to get between the levels in your own house and our house has no insulation and is an end unit and gets really toasty in the summer.

Totally agree with your assessment that buying is not the best solution sometimes. My wife and I sold in California about 7 years ago and have not regretted it for all the reasons you mentioned. Moving is easier, NO BIG REPAIR BILLS. Yes there are downsides, you're home is never your own so you can't do things to it but actually life is too short for that crap. Travel is more fun.
Oh, and we are WAY older than you two!

Sara, great video! We live and we learn--that's life (as Frankie Sinatra sings). And you are definitely not a failure just because you don't take a direct path to your destination. You are a real success because you roll with the changes (as REO Speedwagon sings). 👌🏿

I totally get you, but I've always seen this differently.
Owning sure isn't easy. One of the things that makes owning worth it is inflation. Or even stagflation (yikes).
My father had a tough years in the 70s and early 80s (high interest rates), but the crazy inflation basically paid his mortgages. And ever since then the property he owns has just skyrocketed in value. That is the thing - no matter the economic situation owning things always has value. Money does not.

Sara, I haven't been able to catch videos lately just with life and stuff! But I'm glad I was able to at least watch this. I've been loving your stuff for over 6 years now! I still get compliments on the long sleeve white STAY PEACHY shirt I got however long ago that was. You're right in your video, it's time to just focus on LIVNG! Good vibes to you and John!

I agree the real estate game is not for everyone, I sold my rental last year super happy I did
We currently own a big sfr, close to my son school and I'm gonna be working from home sooo it is like the dream home, we got that house brand new! But guess what I'm thinking I wanna buy a rv and be free hahaha 😆

8:00 They look like they have it figured out but very few of them unsuperficially do. I will take your honesty with dealing with problems that just come up vs. the manufacturered perfection look. You guys will find what is right for you in the time you are ready for it. You are a smart cookie.
15:00 You guys are too cute. It will be so nice to have these videos when you guys are further down the road and look back on it.
25:30 The real estate game is hard to get into. The successful usually are those who can pay in cash for a land lot and new build.

ain’t no shame - we had to give up on the current market too, as have most folks. It’s just so stressful to even look right now because things get scooped up so fast! We ended up renting a condo with a huge park across the street & it’s been great. We actually see ourselves staying for a few years. Ya live and ya learn ✌🏼

I think it's cool that Sara chose Fort Worth over Dallas. The reason Fort Worth is so great is that we have Dallas just right down the road when we need it, but we don't have to put up with it 24 x 7

Hi Sara I live at the Plaza which I really like. Been here less than a year. I like the location and I use the resort deck. Problems of now will be resolved. I lived in a condo out of state before moving here. I knew the fees were to low and would have to go up. When I was your age I was renting and I think when you are young it is better to be renting and not settled in. You may get opportunities out of the DFW area. Like in LA. Or you may decide to start a family. I think you made the right decision although it is unfortunate you put so much money into renovations someone else will enjoy. Good luck!

dude I hear you. I lived the city life for so long - NYC a few years, Singapore a few, Seoul for 7 years. Then I moved to Austin and we were all like "we don't need a bunch of space, these Texans are weird (even though I'm from Houston), let's buy a small house"... then we wished we'd bought more space.

Look Sarah as a relatively almost new homeowner I learn a lot about house in the USA and it was with 2 years of living in the USA. Of course had some friends that give me good advices. But I don’t consider that you fail because you did not have what the other in social media brag about. Yes let’s say you lost some money but the knowledge of the experience that is invaluable. Besides you still young you don’t have kids you can still do those kind of mistakes don’t be to hard on yourself. BTW love your videos and my wife to.
