This video tutorial shows how to use GitHub Desktop to back up your RPG Maker projects. You can use this method with any version of RPG Maker (VX Ace, MV, MZ, etc.).

Thanks, Riggy. It's been months since I made a video. I feel like production-wise, this may be my best video so far.

Hi this was very useful. Do you think you could expand this tutorial to cover how to actually do the collaboration bit? Like how to merge different files from multiple devs?

I may make another video about this topic. The information is out there; it's just not RPG Maker centric. If we get more questions like this, I may be able to cover them in a follow-up video. You also would be served by joining our discord, and we can answer any questions you have in there.

The biggest hurdle with Github is actually with the code reviews and reviewing the .json data files. Which is more of an issue from the RPG Maker engine side. The data files are very hard to read and can't really be used for code reviews. I would like to see Perforce and/or Plastic SCM used for RPG Maker as they use a Checkin / Checkout system which may be more viable as Checked Out files can only be edited by 1 party at a time. But neither seem great for code review due to the terrible styling of the json files.

Ya. I think GitHub is more viable as a backup method than collaboration tool... It starts to fall off as you get into higher budget projects with larger teams.
Many makers are not backing up at all so the method in the video is relatively easy and a great place to get started.

Thank you. Your comment on the lack of a thumbnail on my old video makes me want to go back and add one. Probably going to do that, even though the video is 3ish years old.

@@mauigamestudio glad to hear , it's just when i found your videos i taught the way you explain stuff is better than most rpg maker yet you're at 200 subs then i realized that most of you're videos have neutral thumbnail which is kinda bad for a niche content like rpg maker who already have a dwindling community .but any way great content broo keep it up hope you reach 1000k as soon as possible

@@shiro-chan1856 Make me some thumbnails, and I'll upload them. :D It really just comes down to not having the time. I think that my low sub-count can't be attributed to some videos not having thumbs. I think it's just more a lot of my videos are about more advanced and niche topics that are over most RPG Maker users' heads.
