I also personally prefer this way if there are cutscenes in the middle of the game that the player isn't there for. Say switching between characters mid game but there is a cutscene in the middle of the switch.

Great video. Love the Audacity tip. I saw you were using square brackets but what I like to do in the tutorial message boxes is color code the important text like menu names. With the VisuStella messages plugin for MZ, you can assign colors to keywords within the plugin and it will automagically add the color codes every time it sees those words in your text boxes (huge time saver because I'm always forgetting which color codes I used).
That's awesome. I'll have to check that plugin out! (I'm still searching through all of the plugins that came with the bundle) also, I'm stealing the word 'automagically'

2:36 It's a rookie mistake. I didn't use MZ often so far because of our active MV project. Can you lock the fps? MV can't do this and so my friend runs the game by 144fps and I run it by 60fps. So we had to lock the fps to 60 to get an equal timing.Just to be safe I would use the voice as an SE. So it cannot loop or something like that... With 144fps your clip have to wait WAY LONGER. 3:38 Why don't you just let the party empty? There is no need to have anyone in the party. 5:24 With no actor in the party you just have to add someone... and if it's the first time you don't have to initialize the actor, because this checkbox just "resets" your actor back to the way it were. So it's the first time this actor joins the party there is no reason to initialize it. 6:03 Another little tip... "Fade Screen In" should be in an autostart Event on the other map as long you want a cutscene over there. So Map effect changes will not be visible for the player. Sometimes it comes to loading issues and that's the way to overcome them. 10:15 That's the point.... play music and THEN Fade in the screen would be way smoother... You could even tint the screen black BEFORE you fade in the Screen and after fading you could tint the screen back to normal for... 120 frames. So the Fade in would be a little bit nicer... 12:25 He has to MOVE down so he can go "inside" her... I know I had some complains because I think a newcomer should learn the easiest way but he should know basic problems that can come up... My english isn't the best so I hope you can understand what I mean :D

Next, I can't seem to find a clear tutorial on this, so perhaps you could enlighten me... how does one make a second character appear on a map that the player was already on? In my scene I can't get the character to interact unless they're already on the scene. For instance, the player is looking for someone, and then an NPC walk into the map and walks up to them. "Oh, there you are!" Thanks so much!
Have the event on the screen with no grapic. And then when it comes time for the NPC to (Enter the Map) Change the Event graphic to show the NPC. You can do this a few ways but one way I do it is in the movement event, you can change graphic.

How would you go about putting a skip cutscene option within the event for something like this? I've watched several videos like this about setting up cutscenes but none of them ever go over skipping cut cutscenes while maintaining the actions that still occur. I've been pulling my hair trying to figure this out the last few hours
HELLO! Idk if you still answer comments on old videos, but I have a question! I wanted to play a video (like an MP4/WAV file) in my game with Text appearing over it, however, I'm struggling to figure out how to overlay the text while the video plays on loop until the cut scene is over. I've tried but it just plays the video first AND THEN plays the text, which is not what I planned for. I was wondering if you had a specific video for that, or if it's even possible on MZ?
Yeah, at the end of the cutscene add (Self Switch A) = On. And make a new pages in the cutscene event and make that page only appear when Self Switch A is On. Those conditions can be found on the left hand side of the Event Manager.
One thing I noticed that someone pointed out when they played the demo for my game, is that the voice file sounds like it’s almost really quiet which caused them to barely hear what was being said. However for this video, I noticed that you didn’t use the Limiter or anything to make the voice file sound louder.

Ive been searching for several hours and seen lots of different video's about in combat cutscene events, but no tutorials on how this is done whatsoever. something simple like character A hits mini-boss with a melee attack. Character A: "this attack isnt working. try something else " character B: "how about a little magic instead." character B casts a spell. Character A: "That seems to do the trick!"

You would make a event make it auto run like normal then you wanna select the position in middle and make the text bar invisible and that's what you do hope I helped

Like using the Wait XX frames and then move on to the next set of dialogue without a trigger? I'd generally recommend against that, just because everyone reads at different speeds. However, if you want to do it. There are text commands to achieve this. -- You can use \. to wait 1/4 of a second. You can use \| to wait one full second. You can use \^ to make the message continue on to the next one without user input.
Player by default is set to a speed of 4 where as events by default are set to a speed of 3. It's something you can change with event commands if you want to

Instead of creating an "Intro" character, you could've done "change transparency ON" in the autorun event. Is there any specific reason not to do it? By the way, thanks for your effort. I enjoy your videos.
I do it this way to avoid the 1 frame where the character is visible before the image turns TP on. Another way is to have the image as empty in the data base and when your ready change that graphic to the character graphic.
That's odd. There shouldn't be any reason if you've told the BGM to stop, for it to continue at all. Have you double checked the timings and the actual stop command?
@@LvLUpDesign I've fixed it by restarting my PC. Quite odd as its a bug, now I have another bug at the quest tutorial where one of my characters couldn't detect the variable change. Still tryna troubleshoot, will update you again!
Hi Tristan. The reason the voice started playing before the scene on the bridge is because I started the player on a different map by right clicking the screen and setting the starting position of the player. The only event on that screen is the voice event. Then i transfer over to the new map with the bridge.
@@LvLUpDesign Ohhhh! It seems so obvious now that you mention it. Wherever you place the starting character is the point from which all future events hang from, like a heirarchy. I'm coming from work on music and video where I'm used to a timeline or piano roll. I have to reshape my thinking to event triggers. Thanks for the response!
IS it possible that you have an event that is blocking the way? Another thing it could be is you're layering. Always make sure the ground tiles are Auto Layered, not just layer 1.
That's odd. Are you adding them to the BGM file in your game folder? I've found that if adding them to the folder doesn't work, you can always use the 'Import' tool and that might help.
i follow all the steps like 5 times. but everytime the cutscene finish and takes me to the map for like 2 seconds, it brings me back to de black screen and de intro.

it'd be nice if they had a built in system to make a intro and a system for adding voicelines instead of having to work around the engine, it'd also be amazing if it had an in game icon maker so you could easily make tiles and characters instead of having to use 3rd party programs to draw and merge your artwork in in such a rudimentary and roundabout way that just makes things extra tedious for no reason. theyve been making these rpgmakers for like 20 years after all
Could you do a tutorial on how to make a chase cutscene as well? Not necessarily the player chasing anyone but watching as someone else gets chased, including having them move to another map
@@LvLUpDesign definitely how to make it one whole event where the player can hear a commotion on a different map, enter the main map, talk with someone for a second then watch as another character runs by and enters the previous map with people in pursuit. After that the event ends and the player can move freely but is also required by the game to follow after the other characters for plot? It's something I've been trying to do for the past few days but no luck :(

please do not use a separate character that’s invisible it makes playtesting a pain just turn on transparency for your character in the cutscene’s auto run event and turn it off later

that is true tho making a blank character helps if in the future you change the characters appearance
Is there a way I can still give the character their party members?
Yeah so don't make a blank character and just select the start transparent option in the database.
That's also an option, personally I've found that changing the actor graphic can sometimes glitch and show nothing.

3:22 you could go to system and make transparency on nad then when you want to get the player back create an event player transparancy off
There are many ways you can do it and that is one. I just find this one easy so that I'm not messing with the system parameters of the main character.

I know in MV you could do it through a plugin. I'll have a look around to see if anyone has developed one for MZ.

This is a late reply but you may also use an alternative command which is the change transparency the event option.

@@LvLUpDesign Ohhhh! It seems so obvious now that you mention it. Wherever you place the starting character is the point from which all future events hang from, like a heirarchy. I'm coming from work on music and video where I'm used to a timeline or piano roll. I have to reshape my thinking to event triggers. Thanks for the response!
how do u fix random closed off blocks?? it's making me unable to access certain parts despite having the tiles set to the correct kind
IS it possible that you have an event that is blocking the way? Another thing it could be is you're layering. Always make sure the ground tiles are Auto Layered, not just layer 1.
The ogg isn't showing... i have the same problem with some music i added.
That's odd. Are you adding them to the BGM file in your game folder? I've found that if adding them to the folder doesn't work, you can always use the 'Import' tool and that might help.

Hi, you can do this with event commands such as "Change Party"
i follow all the steps like 5 times. but everytime the cutscene finish and takes me to the map for like 2 seconds, it brings me back to de black screen and de intro.

it'd be nice if they had a built in system to make a intro and a system for adding voicelines instead of having to work around the engine, it'd also be amazing if it had an in game icon maker so you could easily make tiles and characters instead of having to use 3rd party programs to draw and merge your artwork in in such a rudimentary and roundabout way that just makes things extra tedious for no reason. theyve been making these rpgmakers for like 20 years after all
Could you do a tutorial on how to make a chase cutscene as well? Not necessarily the player chasing anyone but watching as someone else gets chased, including having them move to another map
Any other specific details you'd be looking for with the chase scene?
@@LvLUpDesign definitely how to make it one whole event where the player can hear a commotion on a different map, enter the main map, talk with someone for a second then watch as another character runs by and enters the previous map with people in pursuit. After that the event ends and the player can move freely but is also required by the game to follow after the other characters for plot? It's something I've been trying to do for the past few days but no luck :(
So, I’m not sure if you still respond to comments here, but my character won’t appear when I transfer to the next map. I tried to follow this step by step but I don’t know why she won’t appear
For some reason my intro cut scene won't play anymore after I created my next scene
Have a look at all of the switches and variables and see if any of them are conflicting with each other.
