"You cannot manage addiction with moderation." Exactly! This is what I have been trying to explain to my family who keep saying "just eat in moderation." They just don't understand that it is an addiction for me. And your videos are really the first place where I have heard anyone talk about it this way. Thank you!
It’s I,e telling an alcoholic to drink socially only or a cocaine addict to use only a holiday parties. U put bread I. Front of me I have no control. All sense goes out the windows. If I feel sick carb is my fist thought to feel better. Period.
"You cannot manage addiction with moderation". Absolutely true! I think that phrase will be my future response for every person who tells me "every thing in moderation".
Listening to this 3 years after you’ve posted it, and I’m still getting valuable information from you. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge, passion, time, energy, and love for all of us trying to understand! You were one of the first keto docs I found and followed about 5 - 6 years ago! I’m down 146 lbs and feeling great! 🙏♥️
“Every addict is looking for permission to do their drug of choice”. I love you. Dr Mindy talks about it from a perspective of supporting hormones. It does worry me sometimes. However, the reality is that when I try to do something like eat certain carbs that may support hormones I end up over eating so bad and wreck hormones. I just can’t moderate.
Hi my name is Lisa and I'm an addict. Thank you for telling me this!!! I am so happy to have finally found your channel. I've been following keto for about 6 months and I don't really find it working for me. You have explained why its not working so CLEARLY. Its totally because I am addicted to carbs and will be for the rest of my life. I can not do moderation. As soon as I eat any bite of sugar it immediately triggers more and more sugar, exactly like an alcoholic, and I have absolutely no control over the sugar, sugar has total control over my brain after consuming it. Wow, just Wow.
"Step back, go for a little walk, and figure out what the emotion is that's traumatizing you to want to do crystal meth" 😂😂😂 I about died laughing at this! Sooooooo true! I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge in a way that hits home! Thank you so much 🙏🏻
I always come here when battling a craving. The moment I press play is like going to an addiction support meeting. Sipping coffee instead of ordering that pizza and will dance to some music to recover from the hard day, which is what the pizza was going to feed. Thank you so much.
This addiction model is so true. I have relapsed several times. One slice of pizza leads to eating an entire pie. Your common sense, don't count things approach to this is amazing. Thank you.
I had gastric bypass 12 years ago along with gallbladder removal. I regained all of my weight. I started the keto diet back in March and lost 30 pounds but have since fallen off the wagon and gained 15 back. I am Carb Addict!!! Once I started I just couldn't stop myself. I found you by watching Dr. Ken Berry's videos. I'm really considering doing carnivore...I need to do something for myself and my whole family. I watch your videos (and Dr. Berry's) and I wish I could get my dad to see you guys. He needs more help than I do. He won't listen to me because his dietician/nutritionist tells him eating 4 fried eggs with 4 pieces of toast for breakfast AND lunch EVERY DAY is perfectly fine for him. My dad is type 2 diabetic, s/p MI with a CABG (at age 49), high cholesterol, hypertension, and some issues with his kidneys and gets kidney stones. Also has sleep apnea requiring CPAP and was recently diagnosed with COPD. My 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with fatty liver...so I need to make changes in my life so I can make changes for my children ( all 5 of them). Thank you for all your very informative videos :-)
Wholly Ribeye!!!! This is the best video yet!!! Dr. Cywes thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos and answering the questions! Thank you for being so frank about the carb addiction and speaking up about the bullshit that is being put out by other people! America is sick and needs people like you who can get through the nonsense and give the true facts!!! Keep the no-nonsense videos coming!
"Snacking is an emotional response, not a true hunger signal!" This is a jewel, thanks Dr. Carnivore is the way to go to get rid of snacking or cravings 😅 ❤

Thank you so much.
I’m am a carb addict. I’m so happy to find you. I must abstain. My fiancé’s side gig is gourmet candy making during the holidays. I did not do well this past holiday season, but have been back on track since Feb 10. It’s emotionally draining to be around it from November to February. I’m already mentally preparing for Nov 2020. I’m lucky in that I love liver, heart, etc. I love meat. I think I can do carnivore and get through the next holiday season.
I hope you have a great holiday season this year. I love the way Dr. Cywes says, when we look at food that is a "NO" ..."Ew....why on earth would anyone WANT to eat THAT!!" View those addictive substances as disgusting....Much love xxx
I gained back 14 pounds over the holidays and here it is March and I’m still struggling!!! I never knew I was addicted to carbs. The thought never crossed my mind. Now that I’ve started listening to your videos I understand what’s going on with me! I believe this will make it easier for me keep from going sideways!! Thank you Dr. C
I think this (question and answer) is an excellent format for you. I can’t believe you don’t have more followers. I have been sharing your videos, especially carb addiction parts 1 and two and the rules regarding vegetables. Such common sense!
I’ve been employed at a drug/ alcohol rehab center for 7 years as of this year. I heard a person in recovery state that everyone struggling with the disease of addiction is trying to be the exception to the rule that they can manage their disease without the need to completely abstain. I can’t do most things in moderation let alone carbohydrates. I’m an addict and have to be completely abstinent because there is no grey area for me.
Yes! It’s a relapse that I don’t come back from without at least a 20lb regain usually more and months till I get the control back! Over and over my whole life! Moderation is torcher! And yes we all look for permission to do our drug of choice! Keto gave that to me. I’m now mostly carnivore but still have a little sweetener, working hard to break it, baby steps.
I wish I had known about ketogenic diet before my gastric bypass 17 years ago. It saved my life at the time and while I don't regret that, I do struggle with the metabolic issues. Now on keto I am healthy but still have issues with recurring SIBO and nutritional deficiencies and have to be hypervigilant about those issues. Love your You Tube channel!
Great video! You were just introduced to me by another health coach. I’m giving feedback that I like the presentation in front of the window vs the youtube crazy graphics that seem too marketing gimmick ... this is professional and loved hearing about the cars and the buses! and the three month relapses, that described the situation well. GREAT JOB!
"That is called a relapse!" OMGosh I just had an "ahhhhahhh" moment....I constantly have a relapse, hyperactive get so restless at work and hit the vending machine....then back on Keto for a week then BAMMM! Relapse again!
Pam Sunstrom I’m with you on this one sister. Almost a year ago I lost nearly 60lbs on keto and slowly yo-yo’d back to the SAD diet off and on. I’ve gained all the weight back and feel like crap. I felt great on keto.
@@kirbyaugustine761 I did a STRICT Keto for 2 months, never lost a single pound, after listening to this Doc, I think I'm going full blown carnivore and eliminate the "health food" that makes me feel sick and vegetables is one of them, raised as a farm kid, meat is about all we had an abundance of and a fresh garden and lots of fermenting and canning....our veggies are not what they use to be, will slowly introduce things back into my diet after being carnivore for a couple months....maybe ;)
Dr Cywes, I would like to say thank you for changing my life. When I started this life style change in December I weighed 300lbs. I never thought of carbs as a drug and me as an addict. You have changed that. Now as of today I am down to my lowest weight since i can remember. 250lbs and feeling great. I do have a question. I have been doing IF for about a month with carnivore. The last week has been tough because I am getting all these cravings and hunger. Am I not eating enough or is it my carb monster wanting to eat a pizza?
As someone who never thought dairy was a problem for me, I found when I went pure carnivore, no diary, I discovered dairy was very bad for my digestive system. It took longer than 30 days before I began to really notice the healing of my body.
The main principal I try to adhere is ; Eat When Hungry and No Snacking - it's fascinating how a discrimination develops between what your body tells you and what the brain says - it becomes very clear which is which. Eating for health is so damn simple...but not easy.
I wish you would open an office here in the UAE! We need you here so bad. Diabetes is the highest in this region than anywhere in the world if I am not mistaken.
Dr Cywes, I tried your suggestion of eating more veg with fat and cutting back on the protein. It worked., I am down weight and don’t feel hungry. I will hit my ideal weight by Christmas. Yeah!
Carb addiction may be the moat difficult addiction to overcome. Because society, advertising, family members & even your own doctor are actively trying to push you off the wagon. It's a very solitary effort.
I went to a dietitian 2o years ago for hyperglycaemia. I was told to eat every three hours to stabilise insulin and sugar. Which meant I was eating when I wasn’t hungry. I was over eating.

What are wonderful explanation of LDL / triglycerides. Just started seeing a new doctor, a DO., and will be deciding if I wish to continue with her as my doctor. I've gone for my basic blood work my LDL is very high 199 my triglycerides are 60 with a hdl of 88. I'm not concerned but we will see what her opinion is and if she tries to insist that I need to be on statins.
Dr Rob, could you please put a series of your TH-cam videos into categories / series for sale on your website?? It would be a great income stream for you, and a great information bank for us!
Fantastic as ever , would keto help my daughters endometriosis? ,keto has totally reversed my fatty liver, lowered my very high blood pressure so much I don't need meds any more and pretty much cured my fibromyalgia, I've lost 90 pounds of fat and kept it off for 18 months .. many thanks indeed
Jim Bowers it can help, as can carnivore. Insulin issues play havoc and can contribute to estrogen dominance which is a big factor in endo. I have stage iv. One thing that really helped me was reading the book by Dr Andrew Cook called Stop Pelvic Pain, it is amazing at explaining how to interview a doctor and what each treatment entails. The sooner she is treated properly, the better
Thank you for the information. Very clear and simple explanation about triglycerides. How long should it take for triglycerides to decrease when carbs are removed from the diet. Insulin resistance = high triglycerides . There are people who continue to have high triglycerides while on a carnivore diet. I’d be interested in your thoughts on this.
I'm a T1.5 diabetic and I've been LCHP (mostly Carnivore) per Dr. Bernstein's "Diabetes Solution" for the past 22 months. After 3 months of seeking replacements for carbs, I gave up and now it's my way of life and got my HbA1c down to 5.0. However, I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and had a Triple Bypass on Dec. 6th. I've been extremely lucky that my change in a LC lifestyle let me recover swiftly and allowed me to enter Cardiac Rehab and progress rapidly. I was truly motivated by the LC lifestyle because of having Neuropathy, Cataracts and Retinopathy and I didn't want any other complications from diabetes. Motivating people to change to a LC lifestyle is extremely hard. I tried with my daughter and she ended up with Bariatric surgery.
I decided to trust my body and was very comfortable with one meal a day and a bit more than 1000 cal. It was heaven to me. Consequence : I lose my hair a looot and must supplement. But I don' t feel hungry because of that (sometimes nauseating) fat. As if it would numb the sense of hunger like an anesthetic, living me with the thought that it cannot be healthy but carbs can't either. Love your videos.
Dear Dr. Cywers, I really enjoy your excellent videos and thank you. I wanted to view a video you did about fructose again and I believe it was with someone else and was in your series about diabetes. Now I can’t find it. Would you be so kind to add the link?
Question Dr if i put cream in my coffee and sip through out day isnt that constantly spoking my insulin if im metabolicly unhealthy right now( only on carnivore 1 month so far)?
How are you doing doctor great video as always quick question as a replacement for bread I usually make chaffels. I'm sure you have heard of it it has been a big craze on TH-cam for a little bit wondering if that would be totally fine to use as a replacement for bread in making sandwiches
Thanks for your great content ..can you pls do a video -when doing keto usually gets constipated-on constipation .. in my case have to eat fiber fruits some grains and those has carbs.. Thank you Doctor
You might try chia seeds or sugar free Metamucil in a protein smoothie will help. use 8 oz almond milk, 2 tablespoon of no sugar yogurt, , 1 scoop protein powder, add fiber, 1/4 cup cold water into blender (add a few frozen blueberries if you like) I am keto too, I find this smoothie is great and has the extra "stuff" you need.
Coffee raises my fasting blood sugar. I am diabetic. I have gone on and off keto for about the last year and have gained back 15 lbs. Maria Emmerich says that coffee raises blood sugar and causes cravings. I have had lots of cravings just drinking 2 cups of coffee a day. I am now trying to eat keto, cut back to one cup of coffee and then a couple of cups of decaf. Finally I will have to give up the one cup. I will keep trying.
Caffeine ever so slightly raises BG. T1 diabetics use it for that purpose, but cravings are ALWAYS an emotional event not a physiological event esp if you are a T2. Don't sweat the coffee until you are perfectly at zero carbs. In other words enjoy ur coffee IMHO.
@@DrCywesCarbAddictionDoc Well, I am going to experiment with checking blood glucose levels as I cut down on coffee, then go decaf for a while. If I eat good keto, I don't get cravings, but a few cheats here and there and the cravings come back. I do believe there is some psychological factors, but mostly I think it is hormonal in my case because if I do not eat stuff like popcorn, or a sweet here and there, the cravings eventually go away. Coffee does affect my sleep and cortisol levels, so another good reason to cut back on it. I am 66 and I love my coffee, but I think it is affecting my blood sugar. Thank you for responding, I appreciate it.
I appreciate you and your content so much! I really wish you had researched what the Keto TH-cam doctors say instead of what this woman SAYS they say because they do NOT say exactly what this woman expresses.
Great vid! BTW, I thought you'd like to know that the social media links above are broken....the actual linked URL is simply missing the exact final few letters that the truncated hot links are missing. Trying to find a like-minded local PCP, and will use Facebook message to see if you can recommend someone.
help Help. I am 66 year old male living a carnivore life style. I do a lot of cycling. Problem is when I am about an hr into my ride I start losing energy and battle through the rest of the ride. Then the rest of the day I suffer from fatigue and my legs remain sore. When I wake up in the morning my legs are also quite sore and they feel tight. I do stretching and this does help a bit but there is still quite a bit of tension. I normally eat two fried or boiled eggs before ride. After the ride I will have another small egg and bacon meal. Supper is normally a steak or chicken meal. Question. What am I not doing that causes the lack of energy during the ride? I don’t want to start taking energy bars or drinks as this will only spike my blood sugar.

new subbie after watching you on Dr Baker's Meatrx.. looking forward to learning as much as my fatty brain will allow!!
Great information!
Can someone highlight what videos were the recommended: carb addiction one and two. He has too many videos and I can not find it in the bunch.
Can I combine 7 servings of egg whites with 10 grams beef liver, 2 oz. grass fed beef and 3 tab.extra virgin olive oil.
“Eating like a Rottweiler”

You might try chia seeds or sugar free Metamucil in a protein smoothie will help. use 8 oz almond milk, 2 tablespoon of no sugar yogurt, , 1 scoop protein powder, add fiber, 1/4 cup cold water into blender (add a few frozen blueberries if you like) I am keto too, I find this smoothie is great and has the extra "stuff" you need.
hello doctor does too much salt deplete potassium..
thank you
Coffee raises my fasting blood sugar.
Great video!!!!!!
How can you do carnivore if you don’t like meat?
So we should change it to keto eat
I appreciate you and your content so much! I really wish you had researched what the Keto TH-cam doctors say instead of what this woman SAYS they say because they do NOT say exactly what this woman expresses.
I quit cigarettes and alcohol with no trouble at all…but carbs have been my greatest enemy.
Counting is carbs, calories and macros is like counting breastfeeding. I fed my babies on demand NOT every four hours

What about us that struggle to keep weight on?
Great vid! BTW, I thought you'd like to know that the social media links above are broken....the actual linked URL is simply missing the exact final few letters that the truncated hot links are missing. Trying to find a like-minded local PCP, and will use Facebook message to see if you can recommend someone.
help Help. I am 66 year old male living a carnivore life
style. I do a lot of cycling. Problem is when I am about an hr into my ride I
start losing energy and battle through the rest of the ride. Then the rest of
the day I suffer from fatigue and my legs remain sore. When I wake up in the
morning my legs are also quite sore and they feel tight. I do stretching and
this does help a bit but there is still quite a bit of tension. I normally eat
two fried or boiled eggs before ride. After the ride I will have another small
egg and bacon meal. Supper is normally a steak or chicken meal. Question. What am I not doing that causes the lack of energy
during the ride?
I don’t want to start taking energy bars or drinks
as this will only spike my blood sugar.
go on a 3 day FAST
