In June 2018, I saw vids about metabolic syndrome. Told my husband we had to try dropping the high carbs, just give me 12 weeks all in and if it doesn’t work, you can eat bread and pasta again. 4 days in, I was dizzy from my bp dropping and still taking bp med. Dropped the med, called my dr’s office to advise. Looked up keto and hypertension and all this info was there. 10 years on bp med, doc only said lose weight. Cut fat, increased grains and everything was worse. Found keto and could not believe the immediate changes. By the way, keto also reversed my husbands 4x high triglycerides, low HDL, fat gut, fatty liver and he dropped 26 lbs in 14 weeks. Was hopping mad that we have been lied to since the seventies. Standard American Diet is the biggest public health tragedy perpetrated on humans by bad science and corporate greed. Now I’m a keto coach, with a different doctor and feeling better at 57 than when I was 35. We also learned bread is addictive and pasta is really just a vehicle to get the beautiful sauce to your mouth. We make low carb bread subs with flax meal etc. We put our tomato or pesto sauce on zucchini, eggplant, spaghetti squash, ground beef, or on omelettes layered thin like lasagna with veggies between. Pasta is over rated.

This Doctor is absolutely right. My Mom ( now deceased) was on high blood pressure meds for 35 years. When the pill 💊 became ineffective, they actually put her on sodium drip,,, saying she was badly dehydrated. What sarcasm?? Mom died in a coma from low blood pressure that they were now trying to increase by giving her NA ( sodium).

I'm impressed. Been reading labels for 40+ years, choosing "healthy " grains. I'm not super sick, no diabetes, but I do have plaque in arteries and BP that vacillates between mild hypertension and healthy. Started questioning statins again and suddenly I'm seeing all this new research on inflammation and low carb diets. I don't remember a single MD in the 25 years I've been on a statin ever discussing diet, let alone side effects discovered other than muscles and checking liver enzymes. So now I'm on a new adventure at 66yo.

Amazing. After my heart attack 6 months ago, my cardiologist put me on a liter and half of water, no fat, no salt. I got worse. Became a carnivore, got off all my meds. But during some days I would eat insane amounts of chocolates and my heart pain and angina returned with a vengeance, I switched to 1 to 2 pounds of fruits here and there because it's "healthier". Same, I would have to go back on Beta blockers and bp meds. Doc said the same thing. There is too much salt in my diet, and I'm definitely wrong to eat red meat. Cut off all sugars, and I'm now able to even drink coffee!. My heart doesn't get bothered and no meds. I'm glad I found this video. My cardiologist is useless.

@delnacarruthers9335 I was having the same problem. I started drinking 1 cup of hibiacus tea with a dime sized amount of stevia for a month now. Plus I've been walking an hour a day. My bp is finally within normal range, and I've been hypertensive for years. I was on bp meds for 6 years, and I fixed it in a MONTH!
Do me a favor and thank me later, but please remember to comment here because I'd love to hear if it worked for you! Get a box of Stevia in the raw. If you don't like it, I get it, I can't stand it myself, but hear me out. Get Stevia in the raw (That brand in particular because it doesn't contain erythritol...) just 1 box. If you're able, also grab a box of hibiscus tea. If not, green tea is fine. Stretch out 1 packet of stevia to make it last for 3 to 4 days. Just a dime sized amount in your tea once each morning. Then check your bp 3 days after starting to do this. Then please comment back here about your results! It'll continue to get better after 3 days.

I had a hemmorhagic stroke with a blood pressure around 200/140. I was likely prediabetic. I was in intensive care one week and given pills when I left to lower bp. They never mentioned diet and was simply told get more pills when these were gone. I finished the pills, went keto and never looked back or got more pills of any kind. My sleep apnea, excess weight, allergies, constant gas, low energy, mood swings, and so on are gone. I haven't had any illness, any head or stomach aches or anything in 2 years. I hate western medicine. I also avoid all sugar, processed foods, or vegetable oils.

Similar situation. Always been passionate about nutrition and understanding how the body works. Tried so many various ways of eating (most of them for a month). Curiosity mostly, to see how they make me feels. But the more I tried and learned the more I gravitated towards keto where I spent a couple years. Carnivore remains somewhat new-ish to me. Learning so much new stuff here and from a couple others. Didn't think my skin could get any better than it already was on keto...what a pleasant little surprise ^^
Been trying with my parents for some four or five years. On the surface they seem to be interested in the topic and what I have to say. But they continue doing what their doctors tell them - low fat, low cholesterol foods, statins and the like.
On the other hand having much better success with my darlin. That makes me so happy...the thought of so many healthy decades left to spend together.

3 Months Later... I've struggled for over 9 months with High BP. It was hitting 180/120 type numbers.
Even fasting for 2-3 days would barely budge it!
So, I tried ONLY BEEF. I removed Pork and Dairy... After 7 days, My BP was coming down to the 13x/90 numbers. After 10 days it was 12x/8x numbers, and amazingly 2 weeks in... I had a few readings BELOW 120/80. All without drugs.
My ketone levels improved, I feel better... And to test it out. I had 6 oz of pepperoni at 7pm... My BP Shot up 25 points almost immediately, and stayed elevated for over 27 hrs. TWO Mornings after that, my BP was back down to normal. ONE DOSE. OMG.,
Christmas Eve, I had some bacon and Cheese at a small party... It took 7 days (until today) to get my BP back to normal.
Who would have thought. And I MUST eliminate BOTH. If I consume either, I end up with 15x/100 type numbers, consuming both is what pushed it up so high...
What blows my mind is that it takes so long for the body to reset, and remove whatever the problem is...
I am HAPPY to be going into 2021 having solved the LAST of the health issues... (The weight diet... Well, I have to be aware that I tend to USE/ABUSE food, so I have to follow pretty hard rules)... But I feel so good that I am not missing these things. And I am not having to fast as much to maintain!

why is bacon and cheese making your BP go up?

    • @kirkwolak6735
      @kirkwolak6735 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@glenns001 Great question... How the heck am I supposed to know?
I am going to assume it is inflammation. When you do food allergy testing, with the skin pricks... They look for inflammation as a sign of allergy.
I've tried beef + pork fat and had a reaction. So it's not just bacon. It's pork. And it's not just cheese, it's dairy. HWC triggers a reaction. In fact, my nose starts running if I have too much HWC at once.
So, I will assume it is just some kind of allergic reaction to dairy and pork.
But who knew this could drive your BP from 120s to 180??? (now it takes BOTH of them to get that high, I am around 158/160 with just one of them in my diet).
Therefore, I am also going to assume that whatever the mechanism, it is probably the same mechanism being made worse. But it could be a second mechanism (different types of inflammation).

Injections for eyes are for macular degeneration. I had to see an optic nerve specialist because mine was behind the eye in the brain due to uncontrolled high blood pressure. My kidneys arecat Stage 3 due to damage of my uncontrolled blood pressure! I have been to two research doctors and the latest from Rochester Strong Memorial who worked with me to get it under 200/134, but the meds stop working after two months. He blames my hormones from blocking them to be utilized effectively. Crazy train I have been on and the stress in my life isnt great! Do you is my new motto! 🦁🖤🌿

And I've added more salt to my daily meals in 2020 than I've done in several prior years combined. Hope to soon ditch the one pill I do take.

Years ago I had a doctor who prescribed Topril for my blood pressure. She never tested me for diabetes or suggested losing weight...I was 300 pounds. All she did was kept increasing my dosage. I finally had enough and I found a new doctor. First thing she did was an A1C test and changed my BP meds. She also put me on Metformin and sent me to a dietician. BUT, I was determined to lose weight and get off meds. Flash forward..I am 60 years young now and been low carb or keto eating 4 years.(I lost 50 pounds being on low carb) Recently started carnivore. I still have 40 to 50 to lose but meds no longer needed. I will never go back to eating what the nutritionist told me.

Thanks Doc, great talk! I flunked a navy flight physical when I was 20 years old do to high BP. Smoked and ate a huge amount of carbs. Somehow I made it to 75 and have been low carbing it for 10 years, no smokes either; BP is now close to 110/70 with no meds and i'm really glad to still be here! I think we need to spend a whole lot more effort towards teaching people how to be well when they're young, maybe some kind of incentive program too??

MG, my #1 best recommendation-for-my-lifetime as a very old man - who has also gone "through the ringer" of not having wisdom - is this: NEVER EAT AFTER SUNDOWN. See the TH-cam videos of Dr. Satchin Panda, especially by Dr. Rhonda Patrick 7 years ago. He answered a hypothetical question from Dr, Patrick with these words: "Sadly it is BETTER to eat an UNHEALTHY meal (fat, sugar, etc.) DURING THE DAY, because eating LATER in the evening turns even NUTRITIOUS food into junk. I made this change 6 years ago and it changed everything. I told this to a 73 year old stranger and four weeks later he found me and with noticeable conviction told me that he was a Type II diabetic for over 20 years - had tried everything to no avail and took insulin often. He figured he had nothing to lose after 20 years. IN THE FIRST WEEK, he noticed that his daily AM glucose had trended slightly but steadily downward. THAT WAS DIFFERENT and MOTIVATED HIM. After four weeks his AM glucose was 78 and said "I changed just that one thing (no post-sundown eating). I now believe i will be getting off these drugs and will be living a much better life than I had feared." An obese man (295lbs) forced himself to never eat after 6PM (not as rigorous as sundown but a great start). In about a month he noticed that he was enjoying the taste of water more (his body was encouraging him to drink more to help cleanse the body). He started dropping weight and by month 12 had lost 1/3rd of his body weight (95lbs). And he admitted that "I changed just that one thing. I was still eating my favorite food." (WAIT FOR IT!) DONUTS. Now look again at Dr. Panda's quote above: "Sadly it is BETTER to eat (even) an UNHEALTHYT (donut) DURING THE DAY, because eating later in the evening turns even nutritious food into junk. Our body knows what to do with an unhealthy donut DURING THE DAY.
Inflammation is at the root of all illness (cause and/or effect) - that is common scientific dogma. And by eating later in the evening, per Dr. Panda, WE CAUSE INFLAMMATION ALL THRU THE NIGHT that doesn't begin to get healed until the melatonin is fully gone (which takes another 45-60 minutes). This is actually old wisdom.
Hippocrates, 2,500 years ago, said: "IF you are sick and still eating YOU are FEEDING your illness. STOP eating and YOU will heal." The relationship between sickness and food was KNOWN experientially 2,500 years ago if not longer. The reputable historican, Josephus, wrote that people of the ROman Culture (1st C. E. AD - Time of Christ) "ate one meal a day around noon." The Benedictine monk order ate one meal around 3PM. According to a proven VERY accurate autobiography by a British Lieutenant, henry Timerlake, who lived for several months with the indigenous Cherokee people (1762), the elders were around 150 years old and still active and women in their 60's and even 80's - were "doing things that I am not physically capable of doing." - and he was a VERy fit 35 year old soldier - 5' 9". THAT IS WHAT NORMAL looks like.

I am literally going through this at this moment. In a few weeks I have gone from 3 to 1 medications, Amlodipine Besylate. I have been fairly strict carnivore for 3 weeks now and have been using also CGM to help monitor other potential issues. I had a spike on one set of labs and my doctor wanted to make sure I wasn't diabetic. It has been an incredible tool to help me see exactly what foods cause what type of reactions and how intense. I wish all doctors would practice this. Mine still thinks I'm insane for eating the way I do and still using salt, but at least he does not put up any real resistance. I was hoping he would take not of my changes for the better and keep them in mind but unfortunately even if he does get "enlightened" a little he is going to be retiring soon. I need to watch this about three more times, trying to fix myself to get much needed dental work done. Whitecoat syndrome pushes my BP sky high due to anxiety from bad childhood experiences. 210/110 at the dentist (wrist monitor), at home one hour later dropped to 135/76. I've learned that BP starts rising a few hours before waking, then starts dropping around midday, for me after walking/jogging and after lunch is lowest around 1:30pm 13x/7x. So dental appointments need to happen in the afternoon when BP is at its lowest, and after a good jog. I've been on reduced carb about five months, less than 50 per day, 1500 calorie diet, not totally carnivore, but no sugar or processed food. Try to limit diet to carbs bound in fiber like peanuts, apples, blueberries, peanut butter, beets are high carb though very good nutrition. Love love love Texas Ruby Red grapefruit. Can't get enough, but diet limited 1/4 - 1/2 per day with eggs/bacon. Have not seen a cardiologist to look at underlying causes. Age 72, take 50 mg atenolol/day, hate it dropping my heart rate so low 40/50/60 range, freezing hands. Lost 35 pounds (177) stopped taking meds to see what would happen. BP still too high. Maybe another 35 pounds, exercise 3-4 times throughout the day. Hate the feeling of being slowed down to the point of sitting in a chair watching the birds and too tired to do anything. Recently noticed reduction in strong coffee makes a big difference. Gaw!

A year ago I was Hypertension II with a BP average 170s/103s and I was obese 246 lbs (5-10"). BP medication brought me down to 130s/80. I went on a carnivore lifestyle change 34 days ago and things have really changed. I am now 30lbs down (216) and my average BP is near 114/64. I will note that my BP went down to ideal within a few days on the carnivore so I can't accept it when someone tells me it was because of the weight. I also went from no added salt to food the past 25 years and junk food to taking in much more salt daily while eating the fatty meat (mainly steak) and no junk food. I've had maybe 3-5 grams of sugar and 15 carbs in food I couldn't avoid the past 34 days.

Super information! I've only been doing carnivore for a little over a month, but feel so good. Yes, I still take lisinopril for hypertension, but I'm seeing a steady downward trend...yesterday was 118/71, heart rate was 74. I try to pay close attention to body changes and noticed a slight craving for salty foods. I didn't give in to it b/c it's usually accompanied by lots of carbs. Just great to finally understand why and what to do! Thank you Dr. Cywes. Also seeing a slow but steady weight loss and now have energy enough to increase exercise. Very happy camper.

When you eat a low carb High/healthy fat diet, you need to increase your salt intake.
I don't like salty food, but I've found that if I put a little bit of salt into my sparkling water, it tastes better, and I'm getting the extra salt I need.
I grind enough for the day, so I know how much I'm getting, and just add small amounts to each glass of water I drink.

I have had very erratic high blood pressure for years, never smoked, been strong and fit. Physical work most of my life, 66 now and working hard at home, disabled now, as health allows me after a blood clot Stroke in 2021. I went to my new GP, having moved, complaining of pain and lump at my Carotid Artery. He said he will get it scanned unconcerned at all claiming he could not feel nothing. Never got scanned. Months later Stroke! UK by the way.. I have had very regular heart beats, 60 average with episodes of highly scary erratic heart beat, high….really high Blood pressure! Then down it would go, severe Stress for years/divorce etc. No one would get to the bottom of it. Refused Hernia op, because of it being way way too high!pre stroke, 50 mg Losartan. Never really worked too well. On 100 mg post Stroke, and blood thinners. Works reasonably well…..Clopidogrel 75 mg, Lansoprazole 15 mg all since 2021. etc etc etc. After one of your videos, Mineral water, sparkling now with Himalayan salt and lemon as well as prescribed drugs…..less….statin… my blood pressure was somewhat better than the BP tablets which I continue to take along with the blood thinners and very regular heart beat now. Practice Nurse was surprised 60 average down to 50 plus.! Scared of the on and off head pains mostly where the stroke began on the right, severe pain on the day! Working damn hard to get a normal voice back and left arm/hand. Muscles rebuilding well, no use yet of the hand.Thumb moves and little finger a bit. Depressing but fighting. Walk is rubbish but doable. Passed off to drive again one handed. No motorcycling again, …. yet. NHS collapsing! I would love feed back, however it put’s you in a difficult situation alas! Thanks so much for a great video, Doc! Despite being keto 3 months (less than 20g carbs/day) my BP has not gone down. One other factor that influences BP is low ADH (antiderietic hormone) levels; mine is near zero. I was told that can be from aging (I'm 71) but have also had Lyme disease and was told that can damage the pituitary which regulates ADH release. I also have POTS so was told years ago to greatly increase salt but if I eat too much salt, my BP does go up. There are so many variables, it seems impossible to make everything work right. Hope you continue these BP videos!

I've been telling my 84 year old mother that salt isn't the problem, it's sugar (and carbs that the body converts to sugar) since she was prescribed bp meds a couple years ago. She avoids salt like the plague, but eats tons of carbs in the form of unsalted nuts, Ezekiel bread, oatmeal, whole wheat tortillas and veggies, thinking she's eating healthfully. She avoids meat, but will eat fish once in awhile. She's tiny. 103 lbs 5' tall. But I know she's got the diet thing all wrong! Old school thinking. It's hard to change that mindset.

I'm 68 and have been treated for "essential" hypertension for 21 years now.
In my middle 20s at a job physical my doctor said my BP was high but he didn't want to label me as hypertensive so just told me to try and lose some weight and we'd check it again.
So I lost the weight and my BP was fine. Then through my 30s I had no healthcare insurance so I never went to the doctor because I felt fine. I gained weight but was never fat or obese, but evidently my BP was sensitive to being overweight and went up. At age 47 I needed back surgery for a ruptured disc and my doctor (the same one from age 26) said they'd never do the surgery until they got my BP down, so the meds started with a water pill. The BP got good enough for surgery, but still would run high so the easy thing for the doctor to do was to add another pill and then another. Now I am taking 4 meds for hypertension and I am at least a couple of PCPs past the last who who prescribed a BP med but they just keep renewing my prescriptions and never suggest a lifestyle change.
I had lost weight since the start of the year but then it just stopped and even went up a little.
So I went on the Keto diet and quickly lost 15 pounds which put me near the weight I was in high school some 50 years ago. I lost 4 inches off my waist, 3 from my belly, and 1 from my neck. After riding my bike for an hour and walking for an hour in the morning my medicated BP has been as low as 85/51 and my heart rate tends to routinely be in the upper 40s to low 50s. Yet when I try and wean off starting with my water pill, the first BP med I took, within days my systolic pressure creeps into the 120s to 130s and then into the 140s. When I go back on the water pill, within 3 days my systolic is back down to 105 (diastolic is never an issue, always in the lower 60s).
So I'm eating well, off the carbs and sugar, getting a lot of exercise, but I just can't seem to get off of my BP meds and it's very frustrating suffering a rebound of high BP when I try and wean off just one of them and what would seem to be the most likely one, the water pill, which should be the easiest to eliminate.

Wow Steve that is quite a story. thanks for sharing that. It sounds like quite a struggle. I recently called the number of Dr Rob to get another opinion. I’ve just got a battery of blood tests to see what his thoughts on a similar issue I’m having, but just not as pronounced as yours. my numbers creeped up to 140’s, but at other times is lower. There is such a thing as lab coat hypertension when getting your BP measured in the doctors office. I bought a withings BP so that I could measure first thing when I wake up, which made a huge difference. My first meeting with Dr Rob was fantastic! Spent an entire hour with me. My insurance Aetna covered it. I hope the best for you. take care

I first found out I had hypertension around 2002, shortly after retiring from the USAF. It was rather high, about 170/100. Medication seemed to keep it stable at about 150/80. About 15 years later I developed T2DM. I'm pretty sure I was diabetic for many years by that time, but the V.A. medical system just doesnt care about it until its severe enough you might pass out while driving. My HBA1C was 11.7%, and my BG level was 594 (600=fatal?). That tells me both of my assumptions were probably right.
I developed cancer sometime in the early 2000's. It wasn't caught until I was being examined for kidney stones, around 2007. I had imaging done for extreme pain, presumed to be a kidney stone, and verified by imaging. But they were more concerned with what else was in the image. An RCC on my left kidney, a 1.7 CM sphere half embedded into the kidney. I had imaging done about 2x a year to keep watch on it. It grew very slowly, at about 1 to 2 mm per year.
Then on 29 Aug 2017, as part of the kidney stone issue, I was sent to a urologist, an outside specialist, who needed labs done. This is when I was diagnosed with T2DM. I followed doctors orders. Medication, 1,000 mg Metformin 2x a day, Exercise and diet (S.A.D). I was taking BG tests every waking hour without fail. To say I was freaked out by this is an understatement. I knew basically nothing about diabetes, except that I knew people who have died of it and had amputations. Oh yeah, freaked. My BG levels were consistently between 200-300 every day for six weeks. So on 16 OCT 2017, with no change at all noticeable, I decided to say 'screw the doctor, I'm doing some research of my own, I'm going to troubleshoot this (troubleshooting is my wheelhouse, has been for 40 years by that time).
    [condensed version]
That led me to the Ketogenic diet. I went zero carbs. My BG levels went from 200-300 roller coaster ride per hour everyday, to 80-90, measure every hour. After about a week I stopped caring about the need to measure it that way and, started measuring once every few days. I lost 40 (forty) pounds in 14 (fourteen) days. Yepper, 40 pounds in two weeks time. I lost another 20 pounds over the next 3 weeks. In total from 250 pounds to 190 pounds. 12 pants sizes (from 46" waist to a 34" waist). HBA1C went from 11.7% to 5.4% after a total of four months.
But my blood pressure remained higly elevated. The keto diet seems to not have effected my blood pressure at all. So I began to think about the cancer. Seeing as the kidneys have something to do with BP, maybe the cancer is having an effect on it? I stayed faithful to the BP meds. They seemed to keep it on the low side of high, yet still high. Basically the same as it had been for nearly 20 years.
This past Aug of 2020, I went to Duke university to have the RCC removed. It went well. The ablation treatment shows nothing left over after the procedure. Overall, a not unpleasant experience. Except for laying on my stomach for 2 or 3 hours, and having hallucination from the meds [a little green tree frog, sitting on my arm where the hep-lock was installed]. !78^D
The external surgery site was healed completely in just a few days. Just a few years ago, that same thing would have taken months to heal. Not to mention the internal tissue healing needing a lot more time, and probably with a lot of complications.

Thank you for explaining this to me so clearly. I am 62 yrs young and it has always been a mystery why my BP is always so high. Every Dr I have been to told me any dietary or exercise options won't do me any good and meds are my only option. I was on 2 meds for my BP and they didn't do a damned thing! Even though I eat healthy, and exercise daily, I do consome a lot of breads, pasta, rice ( and beer). I am going to try keto and check my BP after a month and I have a feeling my dietary changes will do the trick.
