    My name is Steve and I am a carb addict.
    I am 80 years old. 2 years ago, I weighed 385 pounds; with HA1c 6.4 with 2g metformin; taking blood pressure meds continuously since 1973. My TG/HDL ratio was 6.2 and I suffered severe joint pain. Now, I weigh 223#; I workout/row at a gym 5 days a week. My HA1c is 5.4; I still take BP meds

    It never dawned on me that I was addicted to carbs until I tried to do keto and I would last a week and then eat a heavy carb meal and then eat like that for a whole week. Then try to go keto again always following that same cycle.

    • @kristypickett4227
      @kristypickett4227 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m the exact same way! I plan my favorite meals, keto style... like replacing noodles with spaghetti squash because chicken Alfredo is my favorite, etc for 2 weeks so I have meals I like during the time that is easiest to fall off the wagon. I also have some Lilly’s milk chocolate chips that I get from Walmart, and have a handful or 2 a day for those couple weeks to curb any type of cravings I may have before they come on. after those 2 weeks, the cravings and hunger go away and I know I am safely back to keto. I also find I really can’t take cheat days, so the Lilly’s is what I eat with when I want something so I don’t pig out on junk food.

      Same here. My medical advisor asked me if I craved sugar. I said no. In truth I did not because I was eating a never ending supply of sugar and carbs. It was when I tried to stop carbs that I discovered the severity of my addiction. Quitting smoking was nothing compared to quitting sugar and starch. If I had only known about replacing it with fat I would have done it 17 years earlier with a lot less suffering.

    I don’t know what the age difference is between you and your wife, but there is about 18 between me and my husband. I have pcos and had given up on ever having children because my periods were none existent. I went on the Atkins diet back in 1998 and I asked my husband what he wanted for his 50th birthday and he said he really wanted a child with me. I was 6 weeks pregnant for his birthday! I didn’t name my child Robert Atkins, but I joke that I should have. I have been on and off this lifestyle many times, and I am back on. My motivation right now is to try to get myself in the best shape I can to fight against Covid if I get it. Thank you for your work.

    Exception to every rule, of which my mother is a prime example. I’m 73 and just starting keto way of eating. My mother is 91!!! Never eaten keto, in fact she mostly avoids meat for religious reasons. She eats junk, processed foods, has drank and smoked cigarettes. She hasn’t drank or smoked in years but she still eats junk! She is now riddled with arthritis, type two diabetes but still living if you want to call it that.

    Hi, Dr. Cywes. I recently discovered you on Dr. Ken Berry's interview with you. Interestingly your comments on dying struck a cord. Since i started Keto diet and refuse to eat sugar/carbs, my friends have been urging me to have treats like cakes, ice cream, etc. And my response has been "i want to be healthy when i die". Although i've had many (~7) Surgeries (i'm 80 now), i am much healthier now than 7 mo ago; got off medications, except thyroid one.Thanks to isolations because pandemic, i bought an Ipad and found Utube lectures such as Dr. Berry, CarbsDownUnder, Dr. Noakes, and now U. Thanks so much for educating us.

    34:50 As for the possible iron deficiency, why not simply eat some liver once a week and see if that does something to the nails? I would think it's worth a try to simply treat it as an iron deficiency at first.

    I’m 82. Keto for three years. I’m concerned that I’m not eating enough. My weight loss has stalled. I mostly eat animal protein, but I’m rarely hungry. Today I had some home made greek yogurt, about 4 Oz Oz liver and a few nuts (12 almonds). Three cups of tea with cream. And water. I eat vegetables, broccoli, cabbage a couple of times a week. If I’m nutrient deficient is that what’s causing my stall. I’m 5’3” and 165 lbs so obviously overweight. I’d appreciate your insight.

    I've noticed one main thing since I've been fat adapting myself over the past couple of months is that I seem to be thinking a lot more clearly not sure if that has much to do with that but I can really see a lot of major differences. I don't seem to retain any water at all anymore and I don't feel the need to eat more than once a day. And one last thing my skin seems like it's more clear or something I don't know if that's possible but it just seems to be a lot more clear than it used to be. 🤷🤷

      When I’m following the ketogenic way of eating I experience the same benefits that you’ve mentioned. I not only think clearer but I have far less anxiety. I feel calmer. I sleep better. My vision improves. Little to no muscle soreness after a hard workout and very little recovery time needed amongst other benefits.
      Congratulations. Keep up the good work.

    Hi, I'm from Germany so pls don't blame me for my English ^^. I'm so glad Ive found your channel, it's the wake up call I needed! Apparently I'm dealing with some hormonal issues (doing some blood tests, soon.. Seems to be pcos). According to my eating habits in the past, plus my stress levels, I'm the only one to blame for this. Now I'm in the position to take responsibility for my health and I wonder what role veggies play for my situation. So far many doctors advice to eat lots of green leavy vegetables such as arugula, Brokkoli etc because it's crucial for the liver... I'm now a little bit confused whether it's better to eat keto or carnivore for my condition. Would be great to hear from you so I can handle the situation with more awareness and self confidence. Regards from cold germany.

    I've been Keto for 5 years now as measured by my Keto Mojo but over the last 2 years my CT CORONARY CALCIUM SCORING went from 120 to 219. I never cheat on a whim with Keto, though a few times a years I plan for family birthdays or thanksgiving dinner. I always get right back into ketosis the next day. Why is my CT CORONARY CALCIUM SCORING going up? What can I do about it? Would a statin help? BTW, I control my High Blood Pressure with Olmesartan. Oh, and I am a lean mass hyper responder, 6 feet tall and 175 pounds.

    I’ve been keto for 3 years now and needed salt on everything. I’d get terrible leg cramps and always going to the bathroom to urinate. The only thing that would help is putting lite salt on everything! Now that I’m more carnivore everything I used to do by habit is just way too much. Everything is overly salty to me. I was wondering if the carnivore diet makes your body more sodium or electrolyte sparing maybe?
