It's said that 'girls just wanna have fun.' Well, us older guys do too. Your review of the Velotric Summit 1 was exceptional. Very down to earth. I too had my mind set on the orange version of this amazing eMTB? But the color you purchased shouldn't stand out as much, being a speed pedelec, like the orange one would. I like the blue also. Of course, we want to be law abiding. But yeah, can't wait to get mine. Thanks for the thorough interview. I don't know what city you're in but it looked like a very nice neighborhood for your footage.

Wow, thanks for the kind comments and for watching my review. I still love the Summit 1 and it's perfect for a fairly new MTB rider like me who doesn't care too much about long jumps where I am likely to hurt myself. Rolling through single tracks with short 10 foot jumps is perfectly fine with me. It is SO NICE to get assist going back up to start the run all over again.

@palmsolo And that's proof e-bikes aren't 'cheating,' but instead, living life to the fullest.

Velotric dropped a video recently showing how to swap to a suspension seat post. I would imagine a dropper post would be very similar to this. I just swapped out my handle bars to 60mm riser. I'm 5'11 and got the large size but TBH I feel like I should have got the regular. The reach is just a tad bit too far and the new handle bar helped a ton. Looking forward to any upgrades you might do a video on!

I'm 6'1 and had to get a riser. The reach is no joke. Also had to cut 1.5 inches down on width, way too wide, like pull up wide.

One of the reasons I upgraded the fork to an air fork was to drop some weight, she is heavy outta the box. I’m also converting the wheels to tubeless which should drop the weight a little more.

Thanks for the suggestions. I figured the Summit 1 was priced right for me to start with and then build upon it over time as I ride more. I hit a stump pretty hard this morning and bent my left crank arm pretty badly. Pounded a rock against it to straighten enough to finish my riding and then stopped by the bike store for a replacement crank arm.
I saw another reviewer that broke his forks, but so far they have been fine for my small jumps even with my 235 pound weight. I did notice that the bike is pretty heavy today though while out navigating some tight trails.

Great review. I like the comprehensive review from someone that invested their own money in the bike. I am curious to know your height and the size of the bike you got. At 5’11”, I’m in between sizes.

Thanks. I tested another higher end bike, the Canyon Neuron:ONfly, but decided to stick with the Velotric Summit 1 and I still enjoy the thrill of riding it.
I am 6'1", so only a couple of inches taller than you, and the size feels great to me. I am comfortable with large size and I would guess that would be a good fit for you too.

Just ordered one myself. Worried it might look too much like an e-bike. I'm trying to fly under the radar. Planning to gradually upgrade it with common improvements over time: dropper post, upgraded forks, tubeless tires, better derailleur, crankset, and brakes.

Ha, I worry about that myself. I actually reached out to the local manager of the main trail since a sign shows “no motorized vehicles” and he confirmed that eMTBs are allowed. I’ll go here most of the time, but also just discovered that King County says Class 1 and 2 e-bikes are now allowed on all county trails. I only ride this in Class 2 (trail) mode on the trails so am good to go.

Hi, Matt. Thanks for the great review. Was this trail the SVT? I’ve been looking around online all day to find out if I can ride eMTB there.

No, my local trail network is The Trek at Tehaleh, www.piercecountywa.gov/6965/The-Trek-at-Tehaleh
However, here is an article on the new rules allowing e-bikes and I see in the list that the SVT is included so you should be good to go. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/transportation/king-county-approves-use-of-e-bikes-on-regional-trails/
Thanks for watching the video and your question.

How much slack is there in the controls going to the handlebars? i.e.. How high could I raise the handlebars and not run out of reach with the cables and wiring?
On my hybrid bike, I’ve got a +5 handlebar and a +4 riser, making my handlebars, roughly, 9 inches higher than stock. I don’t expect to do that to this bike, but how high do you think I could raise the bars?
I figure if I had to, I could push the controls inboard a little bit on the bars and add slack to the wiring.

The cables leading down into the front stem piece are the limiting cables and it looks like you could possibly raise the handlebars about 3 inches. Velotric sells an adjustable stem and I've seen people online install 3rd party stems to raise it an inch or two.
Now that I've spent more time mountain biking, I agree that the handlebars could be raised higher for taller riders so you don't spend as much time leaning over. Moving the controls inboard may gain you another inch or so as well.
There have been quite a few folks that have upgraded the Summit 1 so I recommend searching around for those groups and posts too. th-cam.com/video/Y0Ix_rf5QSc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=r9MRANOPsofKLBa5 Thanks for watching.

I was recently asked if I wanted help with my thumbnails and was sent the sample that you now see here. What do you all think? Should I change up my thumbnail approach?

I don’t know of any e-bike actually made in the US. Most come from China with US support
