    Was working at Best buy when this album came out. Best buy would get CDs like a week before they were supposed to release and we had to hold them in inventory. But we would open up a copy and listen to whatever we wanted so I got to listen to this extra early. We had a huge stereo in the warehouse and we were just blastn this for like a week straight. Been addicted to rap music for like 35 years. I get sick of everything. Illmatic, Ready to Die, Liquid Swords, you name it, I’ve had periods where I couldn’t listen to classics for a while because I had heard them too much.
    Supreme Clientele is THE ONLY album, no matter how many times I’ve heard it, when it comes on, I get hype. “One” might be my favorite song of all time. Perfection.

    Hilariously enough when I first heard this album I wasn't particularly impressed and thought "is that it?" considering all the hype it got I had high expectations but I was a little let down. And even throughout various revisits over the years after I still didn't get it's appeal despite my best efforts to knuckle down and really listen to it. Then years and years ago when I deep dived into the Wu group and solo albums (including Wu affiliates) & I went through this again and suddenly it all clicked for me and I really got to appreciate and value this album and was finally able to see how it got all the praise it has.

      I had a similar experience. It was a bit different then what we normally got from Ghost. Had to step back and give it room to soak in the ears. I hated that beat from nutmeg the first couple of times. Now I see why he said keep it even though it was a mistake by rza. Ghost wanted to flex his skills and show he can really flow over anything and help the beat instead of the other way around

    Supreme clientele was the sound of the new millennium starting. It was a breath of fresh air. Apollo kids is still my favorite off this album. But it’s a banga from beginning to end, neck and neck with Ironman. Wu Banga is another one of my favorites to this day, crazy. Nutmeg and Mighty Healthy is nuts. It was the soundtrack of my life living in New York City at the time.
    One thing though a lot of people don’t recognize, Ghost’s nonsensical rhyming actually started with Cobra Clutch on the swarm album. Check it out!

    • @jenkims1953

      Depends some will view this differently i would say the "millennium sound" was when the streetwear/Street DVD era was starting to come into full effect, Not to take away from Supreme Clientele but it was nothing new in terms of sound. Rap was coming with a whole new lot of sounds and sub genres at Y2K not just the same old format anymore.

    • @jenkims1953
      @jenkims1953 ปีที่แล้ว

      The classic trap slap and fast hats were starting to define at this time and in like one or two years of the new millennium we got many hits like 2000 up to around 2008 is full of bangers and the sound is starting to become much more different like new sound, some tracks that i would say defined these years in a nutshell.
      Bow Wow - Fresh Az I'm Iz, 50cent bad news, Ja rule NewYork, Busta rhymes break ya neck etc there is plenty of examples because early 2000s was full of heat and we leaving the 90s right at y2k and the sound across the genre reflected that. We coming into actual played scores and heavy synths not just sampling stuff and boombap.

    • @jenkims1953
      @jenkims1953 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fat Joe would be a good example of someone who morphed with the sound/eras he been through all the sounds that were current for there times and is a good example. What i mean here is study him as he was a good example of someone that done the current sound of any era over his time in the game.

    • @jenkims1953
      @jenkims1953 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      South was starting to define its Crunk and Trap sounds yes it goes back early than this but i mean on a widespread level with Westcoast coming into Hyphy/jook and EastCoast coming with its Street DVD/Hardbody era which was a whole sound in its own.

    People need to respect Inspectah Deck and U-God’s debuts. They may not be as ostentatious as the other debuts, but they are as sophisticated.

    People slept on this album, I remember playing it, driving to go see ruff ryders cash money tour at Irvine Meadows in So Cal. Nobody really liked it, but it was my car so we listened to it😂I was 18, it was always a dope album, just different, then what people were used to. Dope album, Wu Banga 101 and one were in heavy rotation early on. Ironman is my favorite Wu album

      Kanye said he was heavily influenced by Ghost and his fashion sense. The beats for Hovs Blueprint was originally made for Ghostface! He also said his early production style was influenced by RZA with the sped up soul samples!

    The best album of his and the Wu... Ghostdeini is my favorite song of all time along with Lick Shots by Styles P. Ghostface has one of the greatest styles ever. Story telling and wordplay.
