    I do love the “quiet hands” swing feel. A lot of instructors are still teaching that rolling over of the forearms/wrists/hands and that just requires too much timing and too many things can go wrong. Sure it’s powerful and great when you time one up but you’ve got to be an elite level player to do that consistently. Quiet hands is the way to go 🏌🏻‍♂️. Excellent video

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm glad you enjoyed it!
      Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness.
      So, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then yes - we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators will naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.
      Thanks!!

In other words, he's just sane enough to produce all this incredible content and extremely helpful videos without really revealing the Mr. Hyde that survives just beneath his first skin layer. That's how close his madness is to the surface of genius. For the record, I've been following along since the days of his General Ambrose Burnside sideburns. And if that ain't cra cra, what is? This Ben Hogan description really helps me-
    “The left wrist begins to supinate at impact. The raised wristbone points to the target”

    4:18 I took lessons from Walker Inman @Scioto CC and J.R. Ables. Both had me flashing “Open” and flashing “Closed” my left hand (I am a ‘Flipper’). Played to a single digit because of my short game. Could not get better! Played out of the trees. Gave up for 20 years. Saw your videos. Traced back to Hogan and now Varner III…and of course Zach Johnson. I thought “maybe” about this Stack and Tilt? Grab my MP9’s, went to the range, got thru the first 3 of 5 “positions”…and I’ll be playing in the Open Qualifier in 2024 at the age of 63!!!!!!!! Could NOT BELIEVE i was carrying divots forward and left of the target at impact!!! Crazy! I’ll be grinding until the Open Qualifier and few other tournaments next year!!!! Just amazing I can virtually start the golf swing with my hands just above my belt-line inside, and absolutely EXPLODE into the ball!!!!!! Thank You!

      This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of great ball striking, and since it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everything in between, and inclusive of the best players in the world. I give all credit where it is due - including Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett for analyzing and interpreting the science, and to those who preceded them with their empirical observations of the game's best ball strikers and all their subsequent chalkboard number-crunching. I just do my best to take what they have built and convey it in my own simplified teaching style (which is fully on display in the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school - saguto.golf ). I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing!
      Here's the thing, though - it's still all perfectly within the realm of S&T. I simply do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, step-by-step learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result (and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews ). The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

      I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Reginald, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice!
      I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone.
      Now, having said that, I purchased a new set of PXG's in the spring of 2023, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently.
      The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf.

      If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then yes - we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. No manipulations or precise timing necessary. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and once you've got it you'll be amazed at the quality of contact and seemingly effortless power! 💪💪

( I was all over the place with right and left misses). The same day I put a jumbomax medium grip on my 9 iron, I got a hole in one on the fly. Needless to say i have switched back to Jumbomax. In an effort to find more distance, I started to purposely "release" the clubhead at impact, attempting to create some "pop" in my swing. However, all that led to was a noticeable decrease in consistency of both direction and ball flight, with negligible gains in distance.
    I no longer do this. In fact, I put very little thought in my wrists after setting them at the top. From there I simply rotate through and let them release naturally after impact.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well done! Those mis-taught active manipulations of the hands and wrists offer no benefit and instead have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration.

      Yes - If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.

    This made me realize I was rolling my wrists open midway through my backswing instead of keeping my hands quiet and the face square. Instantly solved my issue with flipping and scooping at impact and chicken winging after impact instead of extending. I've seen a few instructors and they all want to give me manufactured, band aid solutions instead of addressing the root cause. Now some instructors are teaching students to bow their wrists aggressively at the top of the swing to close the club face and then yank their hips open and not use their arms at all. I mean, what are we doing here? The game isn't as hard as people want to make it out to be.

      I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Jim; excellent job incorporating it into your swing!
      The golf swing is indeed overly complicated in particular by one part of the human body - the brain and all the swing nonsense and misguided instruction it has been fed. Garbage in, garbage out; and countless swings have sadly been trashed as a result.
      My channel's lessons and tips are not a compilation of band-aid fixes - they are all elements of the robust swing system that I teach. Now, could someone deploy one of my tips to field dress a swing wound? Absolutely. However, it will ultimately serve them far better - and will stand the test of time and pressure - if they adopt and commit to the system in its entirety, and that is precisely what the online school does in a comprehensive, step-by-step learning environment. Like all players at the game's most elite level, it took DJ years and years to hone his craft and get his own unique swing dialed in to the extent that he has. That's a testimony to his hard work, determination, and perseverance, and that is how he has made that trademark bowing action at the top work so well for him.
      It is for similar reasons that I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why thousands of folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result (and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews ). Wanted to say first this is an amazing tip. Similar to your progression through the video when i try this with a half swing or 3/4 swing, perfect crispy contact keeping the hands quiet. As soon as I try the same transitioning to a full swing with the cocked hands at the top of the backswing with thumbs up I start having much less success getting back to the starting position square. Is the intent to only focus on quiet hands from a left/right/hinge perspective? We have to get the thumbs back down at some point with the hands right.

      *_If_* we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. @SagutoGolf Tom, I’m just checking out some of your videos. Great stuff man. Funny too 😂.
    Question about the quiet hands at impact: where would the “pop” come in? All great ball strikers, all great baseball hitters have that pop at the bottom right at impact at just the right time. It may be easier to see and hear it on the ladies tours because they tend to have more deliberate transitions, and slowly generate speed to the impact zone and through.. i.e. their pop is noticeable, because with the men, the whole swing seems to be turned up from top to finish.
    Watching your incredibly repeatable swing-it’s long and smooth and you’re big into quiet hands, and I can see that your grips are huge. It’s easy to see how your swing works so well. Do you give any value or necessity to the impact “pop” in the golf swing?

      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!
      With regard to the erroneous notion that we need to manufacture some type of a rolling or flipping "release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of this action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that most pros are trying to actively manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. Here are a couple of episodes from my channel's archives that may help to clarify:

      @@SagutoGolf Awesome Tom, thanks for always being so generous with your written responses.
      The “pop” that I’m thinking of, as you’ve explained, comes from great mechanics. Practicing and practicing and practicing, and doing it right, instead of manufacturing something that only adds to overcomplicating the swing. That makes a ton of sense. Thank you for that. It is kind of a wink wink sort of thing amongst the uber talented. My favorite “pop” reference came from Kirk Gibson explaining that homerun he hit off Eckersley, 1988 WS G1.. He said he had no legs at all.. he just tried to square one up and give it that little “pop” to leave the ballpark. Just loved the way he said it.. like he had a secret.
      In golf, the best ball strikers don’t just hit the ball, they feel like the face is forever square, especially through the impact zone, and very earnestly ‘catch’ the ball on the club face, and almost like a lacrosse player with his racquet thing, they fling the ball how and where they want. I’ve been there, as a weekend and semi weekday warrior playing for dollars in my group. It’s more pronounced with the shorter clubs because the ball literally does spend more time on the club face, it has to. We know that so many AMs death grip from the top through impact, and are hitting glancing blows off the face because of poor swing path and poor face direction. But there’s a softness at impact by the great players where nothing is being stressed or rushed. The hands are forward and there is a soft lag before the speed of impact-thru.
      …and I’m talking too much nonsense, I know.

      Yes - how interesting and sad it is that with all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). Congratulations on being the first golf instructor on TH-cam that I have found that doesn't have a British or Australian accent (was beginning to think it was a requirement lol). I have to disagree with you to a point about the "hands/clubface" thing being the "main" reason why golfers are inconsistent. This may be true of low handicappers, but for individuals such as myself (so NOT a low handicapper) probably not so much. I can only speak for myself, but my main sources of inconsistency are either the gray matter between my ears (i.e. too many thoughts happening), or my swing tempo gets too fast. With the first of these two, I find that I hit my best shots on those seemingly rare instances where I can basically ignore what any particular part of my body is doing and simply, as Chevy Chase's character in Caddieshack put it, "be the ball". Inconsistency creeps in when I am unable to do this. My second source of inconsistency, swing tempo being too fast, is pretty obvious. I'm not a "quick twitch" kind of guy, so when my backswing gets fast my change of direction gets too fast, at which point everything after that is so out of sequence that I don't have a prayer of hitting a good shot. I can pretty much hit every type of mis-hit imaginable when this happens. Thankfully, slowing myself down is way easier than shutting out all extraneous thoughts, assuming I recognize mid-round that I need to slow down. Obviously, when these two consistency killers happen simultaneously, better break out another dozen balls lol.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a matter of overcoming the "hit" instinct that plagues a vast majority of amateur golfers. This is why I regularly preach - in my American English accent 😎 - about the need to put a stop to the notion that we should micromanage the swing with the hands and arms. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including a proper full wrist hinge - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to its pre-set position established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.

    Quick question: in order to maximise shoulder turn with my left shoulder pointing at the ball at the top of the backswing, I’ve incorporated a slight head turn to the right (a La Nicklaus) to start my swing and give my 54 year old shoulders more room to turn. It really seems to help, but I’m wary of undoing all the good work! Thoughts please and thanks again..

      With regard to your head, allow me to refer you to this lesson featuring Mr. Nicklaus' most important tip: th-cam.com/video/E5csidjztzg/w-d-xo.html
      Yes - a little bit of head tilt is fine, as long as your head remains in the "box" established at address and does not move up, down, or side to side. Also with regard to your desire to maximize shoulder turn, the stock setup for the swing that I teach prescribes having both feet flared out 10-20 degrees, with both knees flared outward as well. This facilitates a resistance-free, body-friendly 45-degree hip turn that then enables the shoulders to turn an additional 45 degrees for a full 90 degrees without any strain or tension.

      The net is a DIY job. It is approximately 7’ tall and 8’ wide. We used this video as a starting point - th-cam.com/video/-p11qs4E2T0/w-d-xo.html - and then made some other minor PVC support structure modifications to suit our needs. We did not use PVC cement as this allows us to easily disassemble it if necessary. The netting we used is 10' x 10' golf cage impact net purchased from Amazon, and it differs from the screening material in the video. (By the way, if using a net like we did you probably won’t need the screw hooks that are mentioned in the video - bungees should suffice.)
      Also, I have a Real Feel 3x5 Country Club Elite® Golf Mat. I love the feel of it as well as its durability. You can visit them here - www.RealFeelGolfMats.com. I thought I'd give the JumboMax grips a try earlier this year, partly because DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. Since then I haven't looked back. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. They’re not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy."

    Hey Tom, I recently found your channel and i have to admit. One of if not the best guy explaining and breaking things down on the TH-cam. You've helped me dial in on things i know i've been doing but haven't been able to correct the issues. I have a question about having soft hands. When i swing my clubs, it feels like the clubs are spinning in my hands. Does that come down to grip size ? I'm used to baseball bats, recently really got into golf the past 5 years. Or do i just need to grip tighter, i also don't interlock fingers.

      I'm very glad to know that my instructing content and style are resonating well with you!
      Grip pressure is something that is very unique to each of us, which is why conveying personal "feels" in this regard have led so many golfers astray. For example, a 2 out of 10 “baby bird” grip to a strong guy like Sam Snead may equate to an 8 out of 10 to another golfer. We definitely don't want that handle swimming around in our hands because we're so loosey goosey that we can't control the clubface. A secure grip and soft arms are what we're after here. That prescription will certainly resonate differently for different folks, but the key is that our grip pressure should give us complete control of the club while not introducing swing-killing tension that prevents us from properly executing the motion and/or robs us of speed potential. Finding that sweet spot is a highly individual thing, and it is critical to consistently blissful ballstriking.
      I’ve found that with a proper grip and the correct grip size for our hands we can apply a surprising amount of pressure with the arms remaining “soft”. In fact, with my Jumbos I can pretty much clamp down like a vise grip without creating arm tension or inhibiting the wrist hinge. That would not likely be possible if the handle was too small for my fingers.
      By the way, if you've not already joined have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of folks across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

      I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large in this video. I wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. These grips keep my hands much quieter - which I personally prefer. Also, since my fingers don't wrap all the way around and dig into my palms, I'm not triggering any forearm tension or activating arms muscles that may otherwise have a tendency to take control of the swing.
      Now, having said that, I recently purchased a new set of PXG's, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. That's where I'm at presently. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel.
