I think we need to start not playing 3 CDM's. We did not get a mobile striker that we needed. He needs to start with the back 4 he has but midfield needs to be more attack minded Kudus, Summerville, Alvarez, Paquetta and Bowen.
Not convinced by the argument that we have tightened things up defensively when the opposition has failed to take their chances, and that's been true in all five games so far. I’m hoping that Lop is keeping it tight at the beginning while he gets to know the players better and what they can and can’t do. If he tried to change things too quickly and too much and we got walloped it would have been really difficult.
I had a conversation with a friend this week, and he said he thought it wouldn’t be long before our fans would turn on Lopetegui. If all these so called experts are so knowledgable why aren’t they negotiating themselves a multi-million contract and become a Premier League manager ?
It’s not that simple is it. Many talented people end up in other lines of work, many not very talented people end up in jobs they’re not very good at, but keep getting jobs. The simple fact of the matter is if you asked 99 percent of people what West Ham’s best side was going into that game yesterday, it wouldn’t have had Soucek and Antonio in it. The bloke is paid millions a year and so far he can’t see the wood from the trees.
Due to supply and demand our expert fans ended up having to negotiate multimillion pound contracts with insurance companies, banks, and oil & energy companies instead. 🤔 ⚒
Afternoon Kris, hope you’re good mate. My opinion on this pretty much mirrors David Sullivans tenure in general. What we’ve predominantly seen since GSB took over is a scared, nervous, cautious approach which basically mirrors David Sullivan whatever manager we’ve appointed, Pellegrini was the exception to the rule and we know what happened as soon as the going got a bit tough. The managers we appointment reflect the nervousness and caution that Sullivan approaches every deal with, when the deal looks a little bit on the dear side whether it would yield amazing results to the team or not, Sullivan reverts to type and goes for the cheaper safer option for HIM. We are never going to see a different approach to the way we play, or see any ambition on the pitch as Sullivan has moulded and runs the club in his own image with his own principles and tendencies and will continue to do so.
Spot on mate. Dysfunctional teams do Dysfunctional things And Because of Sullivan we are Dysfunctional. And So it shall remain until he leaves the building!
I must disagree. Initially he did do this right up until the last two years when Steidten was brought in. You can't say we're not buying good players or spending big money. I'm not a big Sullivan fan but my mate who supports Everton was so excited by moshiri coming in with his billions and he spent money but look at them now😮 I feel GSB get a bit too much stick when they have guided us into a pretty strong position now and trying to push for Europe which we've never really done in the 50years I've been alive🤷🏼♂️
@@davidhooper7921that’s fine mate, you can disagree, debate is welcomed. I must point out though that we only got into Europe because of motes and trust me I’m not a Moyes fan, couple the few good players we managed to grab at prices Sullivan was comfortable with and the fact that we were lucky to have one of the best midfielders the PL has seen in recent times and also the demise of Chelsea and others, remember how Sullivan wouldn’t spend when we could have finished in the top 4, that’s because Sullivan ambition has a ceiling Yes we’re spending money however it’s being spent on numerous players rather than a smaller pool of better players, for example why did we buy fullkrug over Duran, why did we not sign onana 2 seasons ago when he was far less expensive than he is now and was EXACTLY what the team was screaming out for, the reason is because Sullivan still looks at things with a price rather than what they bring to the club. There’s no way that Sullivan is buying Kudus or Pawueta if they were 15 million dearer per player. We’ve predominantly bought players in that are middle of the road in terms of cost and I believe even Bournemouths striker was 41 million but I could be wrong. When all is said and done Sullivan will always do what’s best for his cheque book than what’s best for the club. He will always take the wrong player at the right price rather than the right player at the wrong price.
Not really that I've seen yet. Feels like Motes team but with a higher backline. Very poor 1st half. Much better 2nd half but must improve drastically if we're going to push for Europe
You can see it I can see it and 90% of West Ham fans on seeing that starting line up could see it. Antonio and Soucek are impact subs at best to see 2 highly paid professional footballers struggle to control and pass a ball is scandalous 🤷🏻
I just think our new Manager is still finding his way with these new players. I don't think he yet has decided on what his best starting lineup looks like and a structure that will maximize the performance of those players. Hopefully, that will become apparent soon and our team will take off.
I think we should not discount the magical way we equalised against Fulham. That’s what it was - magic. We can get all technical and that’s important but it’s not AS important to a team (and that includes the manager) who can make miraculous things occur. That ending blew my mind. It was at another level. I believe we are destined for great things and belief is a HUGE part of it. COYI!!!!
If I had a new ferrari I would be very curious about how I drive it. I wouldn't be hell for leather and then crashing it. I would build my confidence in taking the traction control off and pressing sports mode in the first few weeks or months. I'm seeing progression and still say this season is the building season next season the season west ham push bigger better and harder!
I really don't understand fans saying shit like Flopetegui. If you're crying because he played Antonio - Soucek then maybe take a step back and understand he see's a lot in training and maybe there's a reason he thought to do this. He saw it wasn't working and immediately changed strategy. We're 5 games into the season, chill out lol
Totally agree with you on the Moyes/Loppy comparison on how we as fans with this team that’s been built how we want to attack more and not wot we’re witnessing. Defensive 1st so not to conceded is the Moyes way and Loppy seems to have a similar approach. I watched Sunday spuds v the Goons and soon got bored and turned it off as I was bored shitless but you got Spurs who attack and attack and Arsenal sat there and soaked it up then hit on the break maybe a Moyes/ Loppy mindset. Arsenal pretty on the eye ? No not for me but got the job done. Spuds gun ho and lost. Question is , Is it all about the 3 points? We got the players to have both ( if all playing and in there preferred positions) so the Driving with the handbrake on by this old lady I’d like to see it as (Riding the clutch) COYI
What is the obsession. With play Sq pegs in round holes. We have natural. strikers in Fullkrug and Ings , trying to convert Bowen onto striker, is simply that . Why not simply play to our strikers strengths
I was surprised by the lineup but thought to myself “maybe he knows something we don’t” (that’s why he’s in charge and we’re not …?). We came out with a rather fortunate draw. I would have taken a draw if you offered it before the game. He’s clearly pragmatic and is not going to play the same in every game. After Moyes, I am quite relieved that he can change things up, personally.
We need to exercise patience because our games are adversely weighted in the first three months of the season - we don't play very many of the really poor teams - bottom 5 standard - until December. Including Bournemouth in the cup game JLo has either mimicked (3-1 Man City) or bettered every result from the same fixture as last season other than the the Villa game and he was just a Soucek sitter away from even achieving that. We’ve also conceded considerably less. 9 goals less isn’t it?
Selective sample. After we play Brighton, Spurs, Arsenal away we will have a clearer picture. We also don't have Europe with 2 games a week and we have CB who can run. The defence at the end of last season was a train wreck but Aguerd and Mavropanos were unavailable and Phillips never worked out. We were never going to start with Zouma and Ogbonna this season so the comparison is a little flawed.
I have the same concerns but under Moyes, I think we were relegation fodder. We were spanked last season by Palace and Fulham so one could argue that it’s baby steps progress.
Gonzo!!!! F-ing class!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 if he’s a pensioner driving a Ferrari what was Moyes!!!! He’s keeping goals out to a level!!! 60-70 Goals conceded last season. We need a goal a week striker but defence was a problem last season. Think he needs a season. He been told to stop leaking goals and as long he sorts that we half way there
Im very happy with lop so far... I may be the only one but you cant fix everything all at once, we look better in the press and better at the back. Baby steps of progression, anyone who expects so much so early are naive. Am i impressed that Soucek and Antonio played no... But Antonio or ings were the only real striker choices, yes bowen can play there but that should be in an emergency (and i think thats many peoples problem they thinking all of a sudden bowen is the answer and hes not) and if paqueta needed a rest and soler isnt quite ready who do you pick ahead of soucek?
It looks like Loppy is using the old guard as he knows they’ll give us a steady enough start in which to then introduce the new boys gradually.. frustrating, but I get it.. he wants a solid platform in place before making wholesale changes.. he’s probably also trying to balance up not losing the dressing room before he even starts properly
Didn’t watch the whole video but is it possible soucek and Antonio have got something in there contract saying they must play a certain amount of minutes? Also think he should put kudus in the middle
Its very clear we have improved over the Moyes era BUT, where Moyes was defense focused, Lopetegui is very midfield focused. We have bought well, midfielders of quality, but we haven´t bought a quality attacking midfielder! Ok, we got Paq but I am very underwhealmed by his performances. Soler is the only midfielder we have got who could do something but he isn´t totally committed to attack. There is no one to drive forward from midfield. Thats a problem
There are different things tho… we are pressing more and we will get better at it… really bizarre lineup tho and wolves fans said that. He’s going to be stubborn I think
10 games Give him 10 games I know its hard i know it looks very damn shakey atm but lets let the new guy have his 10, if after the 10 we look like we did the first half of the game, ill be right there with you lighting the torches and handing out the pitchforks. Absolute worst case scenario, the next fella has a decent squad to fix.
We are all hoping for swashbuckling football and that may take time, integrating all the new guys etc. But even so; starting Antonio and Soucek was a depressing start, relying on Ings to bail us out even more so. Still, at least we didn't lose 5-0! Onwards and upwards chaps. COYI.
You have to ask how on earth this guy (Jlo) does not get how bad Antonio can be and how he can even consider him for a first team place ever again. Maybe at best the last 10/15mins of a match which we're winning but that's it. If he really doessn't understand and react to the quality of individual players, we really have got the wrong guy as manager.
Im waiting until xmas to start judging, but if were still seeing the same lineups and playstyle at that point, I dont think ill hold much hope. Im extremely willing to be patient with the results and performances IF there is an obvious change of style and use of the squad. But im not willing to see the same stuff as last year and hope it all comes good. I dont buy into this "well we are playing higher up the pitch so will concede chances." Thats a lazy defence.
More like a Ferrari without an engine. We are crap at the moment. I thought a new manager was supposed to inject life He has a system, I think, that doesn't involve Bowen. Bowen has been crap since the new manager came in. We didn't want lopetegi. Wolves fans warned us he wasn't much different to moyes. However, I seriously don't think he will be our manager much after Xmas. Tuchel was our man.
For me, my overwhelming thought it is one of confusion. I am really struggling to understand his starting line ups. Anyone, literally anyone who knows anything about football would look at yesterdays starting line up and think what the hell is he thinking? As much as we have all enjoyed Soucek & Antonio over the years they clearly have nothing to offer in our current system. Mavropanos at the back is a good(ish) defender but he makes too many mistakes, too often and he costs us points. Meanwhile we brought in a central defender that half the world of football was interested in and yet he's warming the bench! I just don't get it. Either there are issues with fitness, communication & understanding the system or he is blind. He said he had watched us throughout last season... I am not sure I believe it to be honest. As far as I can see nothing much has changed. Like you Gonzo I am concerned. Concerned that he, like Moyes, is struggling to solve the puzzle of our squad. I do believe he is better than Moyes but really hope he find a way to make the most of what we have. Soucek & Antonio shouldn't be starting and Mavropanos makes me nervous every time he has the ball. COYI
This is a bit OTT Gonzo. I’m sorry but we’re not a “Ferrari”. Fulham are a decent side & Silva is an excellent manager, they outplayed us on Saturday. We can’t judge JL after 4 games (all of which are tough fixtures in their own right). We’ve gotta give this guy half a season at least & if we’re not in any relegation danger by such time to give him the full season. We can’t expect everything to click overnight.
And am I the only one who finds Mavro's riverdance impressions ludicrous. How many times will he do this before the coaching staff intervene. Probably half a dozen times last season as well. Sort it out!
Patience please. JL will be getting to know what players are really capable of. Also players cutting teeth in premier league fir first time. We need to see what's happening in 2 months time.
If he's going to gain my confidence ( for what thats worth to a millionaire manager) J Lo has to get Souchek and Antonio out of the 11. Surely his instincts are telljng him this is hurting the teams progress. If I can see it and thousands of others can then he must too or its red flag time.
Do you remember “ be careful what you wish for “ We are playing shite football. We have players that don’t know each other and definitely don’t know how to play for each other. This manager is a joke.
J Lo is clearly not Tims choice. Its the DS way of keeping his grubby little fingers in the pie. However JL is a coach and on performance related reviews and if thd quality of football and Team picks dont improve he will be replaced quite quickly Sullivan will not like to see all transfer money being spunked up the wall.
For me take him in a room sit him down and say fulham, brighton, shefield are the teams you send out a full team they are the 3 teams westham have nightmares with
His starting 11 was horrible! An 8yo from Alaska would've got it better. I'm truly astounded. He can do one now, before we lose our stars through being wedged in the wrong holes. GET RID!

@@akwamarsunzal I don't see the pointing in comparing one individual game. We didn't lose at home to villa last season either, so what does that mean? If we lose to Chelsea next week does that mean we've gone backwards as we beat them 3-1 last season?
Obviously better scoreline but that's down to missed chances and a favourable penalty decision . No doubt we have much better and fitter defenders but plenty of work required to limit opposition chances and Lopetegui needs to consider whether Mavropanos should start against Chelsea. @@akwamarsunzal
@lewis4929 5-2 at Selhurst Park last season.
Great line and it does sum up what we are watching how can you drum fear into the opposing side playing 3 dm madness with the midfield we have
is nobody else rubbing their hands together wondering if we’re about to get danny ings scoring again ?
Excellent summation of Saturdays game Gonzo
I’m hoping that Lop is keeping it tight at the beginning while he gets to know the players better and what they can and can’t do. If he tried to change things too quickly and too much and we got walloped it would have been really difficult.
Kudus must play CF or strike. He used to strike for Ajax sometimes and he was very good.

Dysfunctional teams do Dysfunctional things
And
Because of Sullivan we are Dysfunctional.
And
So it shall remain until he leaves the building!
I got Pellagrini vibes watching the Fulham game. We should have made a play to get Silva, he's produced a very good team there.
Give him a break. Let’s see where we are at Xmas. There are some good signs it needs time. We are so impatient as fans
Not really that I've seen yet. Feels like Motes team but with a higher backline. Very poor 1st half. Much better 2nd half but must improve drastically if we're going to push for Europe
He needs to drop soucek and antonio. Its as sinple as that.
Sommervile left kudus right, bowen up top
You can see it I can see it and 90% of West Ham fans on seeing that starting line up could see it. Antonio and Soucek are impact subs at best to see 2 highly paid professional footballers struggle to control and pass a ball is scandalous 🤷🏻
Kudus up top! Leave Bowen on the right!
Rotate Mavro aswell.
I just think our new Manager is still finding his way with these new players. I don't think he yet has decided on what his best starting lineup looks like and a structure that will maximize the performance of those players. Hopefully, that will become apparent soon and our team will take off.
Spot on Gonzo, he needs to drop Antonio and Souceck to the U21s
I think we should not discount the magical way we equalised against Fulham. That’s what it was - magic.
We can get all technical and that’s important but it’s not AS important to a team (and that includes the manager) who can make miraculous things occur.
That ending blew my mind. It was at another level. I believe we are destined for great things and belief is a HUGE part of it. COYI!!!!
Miss daisy having the things he should not copy from the old guard on his clean sheet is a very good point!
The starting line up wasn't a good choice. But the changes were good that J-Lo made which we would have never seen under Moyes.
Kudus is the injection paqueta is the turbo ,Bowen is the oil and Soucek is economy mode 😅
The only thing right now I like about JLo is his use of substitutions and willing to change things up
If I had a new ferrari I would be very curious about how I drive it.
We've played 5 games this season, won 2 of them, lost 2 of them one was city and drew 1 of them with a new manager and team that is 80% new. Honestly, I have to ask what you were expecting?
If you're crying because he played Antonio - Soucek then maybe take a step back and understand he see's a lot in training and maybe there's a reason he thought to do this. He saw it wasn't working and immediately changed strategy. We're 5 games into the season, chill out lol
Starting Antonio was his biggest mistake.
Hes ALWAYS played garbage his first game back after International duty.
Totally agree… driven by a old lady, but you forgot to add the handbrakes still on as well 😂😂
Amorim was never going to join West Ham, never in a million years!
...used us as a bargaining chip with chelsea...they laughed
I agree
What is the obsession. With play Sq pegs in round holes. We have natural. strikers in Fullkrug and Ings , trying to convert Bowen onto striker, is simply that . Why not simply play to our strikers strengths
Is the pressure from Kretinsky on Jlo, Tim, everyone to play Soucek?
@@FlowDeFlowDrainage Considering the short period of time I think JLo has done a great job with the defence so far.
Think it's time for Todibo and Summerville to start. There's no reason not to now.
Great analysis Gonzo, take the HANDBRAKES off Lopetegui
. Bowen .
Paqueta Soler Kudus
Alvarez Rodriguez
Emerson Todibo kilman Bissaka
Areola
With that team we stand a chance against anyone
Soler for rodriguez and paqueta as CAM and Summerville on the left
I have the same concerns but under Moyes, I think we were relegation fodder. We were spanked last season by Palace and Fulham so one could argue that it’s baby steps progress.
Gonzo!!!! F-ing class!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 if he’s a pensioner driving a Ferrari what was Moyes!!!! He’s keeping goals out to a level!!! 60-70 Goals conceded last season. We need a goal a week striker but defence was a problem last season. Think he needs a season. He been told to stop leaking goals and as long he sorts that we half way there
If at the start of the season someone said , West Ham win away to Palace and draw away to Fulham, your taking that all day long.
But surely the Captain Bowen should also be saying to the manager about team selections.
Moyes in a sombrero
There are different things tho… we are pressing more and we will get better at it… really bizarre lineup tho and wolves fans said that. He’s going to be stubborn I think
10 games
Give him 10 games
I know its hard i know it looks very damn shakey atm but lets let the new guy have his 10, if after the 10 we look like we did the first half of the game, ill be right there with you lighting the torches and handing out the pitchforks.
Absolute worst case scenario, the next fella has a decent squad to fix.
There's no reason why we cant play Brightonesque football with the talent weve got but instead we're playing the same old same old.
We are all hoping for swashbuckling football and that may take time, integrating all the new guys etc. But even so; starting Antonio and Soucek was a depressing start, relying on Ings to bail us out even more so. Still, at least we didn't lose 5-0! Onwards and upwards chaps. COYI.
Areola
AWB
Todibo
Kilman
Emerson
Alvarez
Soler
Paqueta
Bowen
Summerville
Kudus
Our best team for me
You have to ask how on earth this guy (Jlo) does not get how bad Antonio can be and how he can even consider him for a first team place ever again.
We’ll have no points by then will be too late
@@Foorless26 we already have 4 pts. Try again
More like a Ferrari without an engine. We are crap at the moment. I thought a new manager was supposed to inject life
He has a system, I think, that doesn't involve Bowen.
COYI
Great comment. And totally agree
Here we go again! The Managers has only been with us for a few months and already questioning his style of play. Maybe it’s the players?
hes using the same players..... whhhhyyyyyy
@@graemebloom3105 Well firstly we don't have 11 new players. That would be a good place to start.
you know what i mean. stop Acting like you dont
The Kudus 85 million clause doesn’t kick in until Summer 2025….
If he's going to gain my confidence ( for what thats worth to a millionaire manager) J Lo has to get Souchek and Antonio out of the 11. Surely his instincts are telljng him this is hurting the teams progress. If I can see it and thousands of others can then he must too or its red flag time.
They will be going down
So who do we think is holding JLo accountable for these performances? Who does JLo report to? Is it Steiden or Sullivan?.....
Maybe the Mr Magoo pensioner is in Londons never ending 20 hpm zone doing 15 hpm whilst running in the new engine with no heating? 🤔🙉 🙈
It doesn't look too good at the moment. Maybe Lopetegui likes driving a Seat.
We might be conceding less compared to last season but the games are equally as dull. I’m glad Moyes is gone but loppy isn’t the answer either
Do you remember “ be careful what you wish for “
We are playing shite football.
We have players that don’t know each other and definitely don’t know how to play for each other. This manager is a joke.
J Lo is clearly not Tims choice.
Its the DS way of keeping his grubby little fingers in the pie.
However JL is a coach and on performance related reviews and if thd quality of football and Team picks dont improve he will be replaced quite quickly
Sullivan will not like to see all transfer money being spunked up the wall.
For me take him in a room sit him down and say fulham, brighton, shefield are the teams you send out a full team they are the 3 teams westham have nightmares with
Weve only had 10min spells in games, even including preseason i havent been impressed by jlo once.
I am not impressed with this at the moment. I can't see it changing. Aston Martin ⚒️☺️
Cant disagree with anything you said here ..
It's far too early to start being this negative, we have so many new players. give the manager a break, the team will evolve in time.
I wonder how Brentford can give City something to think about but we can't! Unbelievable. Wasting our talent. Should have banged in 6-10 goals by now
If he doesn't know himself he's in trouble from us lot
Ferraris are renowned for to be twitchy and even unreliable…definitely costly
I still think he is giving everyone a chance we will click soon .
“Brazil is a world class team” who’s gonna tell him lol
Lopetellegrini.
Awful manager
His starting 11 was horrible! An 8yo from Alaska would've got it better. I'm truly astounded. He can do one now, before we lose our stars through being wedged in the wrong holes. GET RID!
