Your enthusiasm and "nerdy" exuberance is contagious!!! I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction to one of my favorite singers. I have always loved Karen's voice and the songs the Carpenter produced and now you are explaining to me why I have loved them so much. There were so many little details that you picked up on that, even though I'd listened to this song "a million times", I did not realize that was what she (they) were doing.
Goosebumps from the first measure. The sign of a great song! Richard's arrangement and keyboards are stunning, as are Karen's beautiful singing and masterful drumming. True familial genius! Karen truly knew how to vocally deliver a song!
Good reaction and voice breakdown. Herb Alpert heard Karen's voice on a demo in 1969 and signed her brother, Richard, and her to A&M records. Karen received 3 or 4 Grammys in the 70s and sold over 80 million records by 1982. She was 1975 rock drummer of the year according to Playboy. Perhaps THE best female vocalist-ever, because she commands you to listen as she sings in perfect pitch TO you, not at you, with emotion and enunciation. No auto-tune or gimmicks. No professional voice or drum instruction. She was known by the studios as 'one take'. She rarely, if ever, recorded more than one take of any song. She was also the ONLY female harmony/background voice in all her songs. She was truly born with an incredible singing talent. Documentaries point out the accolades to her voice, such as, Paul McCartney said she had the most angelic voice after hearing her sing 'Ticket To Ride'. John Lennon ran into her at an LA restaurant and told her "you have a fabulous voice, luv". Supposedly Frank Sinatra stated that Karen was the only singer he'd pay to hear. I recommend songs such as, Yesterday Once More, Solitaire, This Masquerade, Need To Be In Love, Hurting Each Other, Only Yesterday, Close To You, I Can Dream Cant I (beautiful rendition to the 'big band sound'), Crescent Noon, Ordinary Fool, Rainy Days And Mondays, A Song For You, etc. KC never knew true love. One of her few friends included Dionne Warwick. 5'3" KC really lost weight, due to anorexia, in earnest beginning in 1975. She died in Feb 1983 at age 32 due to heart complications from anorexia
Crazy how well you do KC! Well done! I am so impressed with your knowledge and skill, and of course your very musical spirit makes these reactions among the best.

The Carpenters, officially known as Carpenters,[a] were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen (1950-1983) and Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinctive soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums along with many singles and several television specials.
I just want to say, I love your analysis of both the vocals and instrumental compositions in these songs you cover, but it's the editing of these videos which is really the cherry on top in making each one quality entertainment. Keep up the good work! :)

Wonderful! Karen does some amazing vocal gymnastics on 'Goodbye to Love' too, such long melody lines and such a beautifully sad song.....and wonderful fuzzy guitar....
Totally agree. I was intendING to suggest the same. The guitar solos are so atypical and almost jarring for the Carpenters but bloody awesome. My fav song by them.

Karen has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. Period. It's deeper than most female singers, yet still feminine. Exquisite. You did a very good impression of her. Impressive. Are you aware that Karen also plays the drums? She referred to herself as a drummer who also sings. That's a very modest thing to say, but not very accurate. She'd have to play like Neil Peart or John Bonham to be even close to being as good a drummer as she is a singer.

Rip Karen Carpenter was an angel just like Lolli ❤❤
Loving this reaction. Karen Carpenter had such an enveloping voice, a hero to all altos! And loved hearing you singing more for us and demonstrating how & why the approches she uses were so magical !
And also loving the commentary on all the instruments!!
Thank you for this incredible reaction video to The Carpenters 'Superstar' performance! Oh my!!! Lolli, you have such an amazing voice and highlight the nuances of singer's vocals that even a noob like myself can understand. I have only been subscribed for a little while ... but, have almost listened to every one of your personal singing videos. Keep on sharing your 'gorgeous' talent with us!
I've seen many reaction videos for this song, but you hear and analyze things that nobody else does. You can even sing like her!
Great job!!!
Lolly this is perfect, the best vocal reactor reacting to the best singer. love your reactions.
The best singer is Whitney Houston
So many amazing talents out there..
I've learned so much from hearing your analysis of this classic song. You bring up so many things that others skip over. Thank you for sharing your insights.
One of gteh better/best anaylsis of Karen's voice that I have heard.
I always melt at the sound of Karen's voice. Such a shame we can only imagine how much further she could have gone.
I wish she would have done a duet with Linda Ronstadt
Check out Tori Holub. She'll impress you and reincarnate Karen for you
@@humboldtharry1289or THE Whitney Houston..
Fairy does Carpenters. This day just turned around nicely.
Always, always loved Karen’s voice and their arrangements. Gives me goosebumps and tears and vibes for days.
What a wonderful review of this wonderful Carpenter's song! Lolli, your voice is also truly amazing! Your analysis of songs are amazing, knowledgeable and informative! Thank you and keep up the great videos ... truly amazing!!
You are not just the Fairy Voice Mother, you are the Lady of the Lake, the High Priestess of Avalon. You perfectly mimicked Karen Carpenter. Magical!
Yah and they said ppl couldn’t mimic Karen..
Thank you for this wonderful critique of this song, Lolli. I have watched it more than twice! Haha
Again, very well done.
I just want to say, I love your analysis of both the vocals and instrumental compositions in these songs you cover, but it's the editing of these videos which is really the cherry on top in making each one quality entertainment. Keep up the good work! :)
Always enjoy your reaction videos and this one in particular was one of my favorites, with an added bonus of you actually be able to recreate Karen's amazing tone and vocal ability...thank you!!!
I am very impressed with your analysis of the arrangements and the backing musicians. And your voice is incredible! R.I.P. Karen, the voice of an angel.
Wow!! Lolli, I watch a lot of reaction/analysis videos. The best are made by real musicians who break it down instrumentally, vocally, and the composition. This may be my all time favorite analysis of all time! I watch a lot of Elizabeth Zharoff (The Charismatic Voice) who is outstanding. You rank right up at the top with her. I'm loving exploring your videos. Thank you for sharing!
you're fabulously fun! let alone also insightful and articulate
1 thing I'll say, of all the voice reactors, and there are many I've watched, you know your shit and I was captivated by it. I will definitely be watching more, good job.
Love the reaction and understanding of the music you bring. I loved how you sang to your cute little pooch (dog).
Such nice vocal timbres in this one, thanks so much for breaking them down and all the other musical details!
Their is such a haunting, melancholy beauty and also purity to her voice. Truly, an angelic voice and a timeless one for the ages. Tears well up every time I listen to her voice, it touches my soul and spirit like no singer ever has. Ever. A once in a lifetime, generational talent.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
"Not breathe is generally bad advice.'' You make me so happy. Thanks for that.
The amazing thing about her voice is that she can just fill your soul, and completely break your heart at the same time. A master of her craft.
Richard Carpenter went on to have a notable career has a producer, arranger and composer. In fact over the years, Richard Carpenter has composed many theme songs for TV series.
Lolli, I can only say how impressed I am with your voice!
Everyone else sounds like dirt after hearing Karin, you match up so well!
The birth of the power ballad!
This has got to be the best analysis of a hit song I have ever heard. Karen and Richard Carpenter (I am sure) would be delighted at your words as they penetrate the beauty of the music and singing and reveal what it takes to produce such a magnificent recording. A colossal work of art. Plus, as a bonus, you have a wonderful voice and come very close to giving us the brilliance of Karen Carpenter. Gosh, I am now a subscriber!
Holy crepe! You just enriched my appreciation and enjoyment a song from my youth. You are immensely talented and engaging! 😮 W O W !
Btw Karen is listed on DrummerWorld's list of the Top 500 Drummers of all time. Yes she really was that good.
213,000 subscribers cannot be wrong, and they aren't. You have become one of my favorite people on TH-cam. I am so happy that I found your channel. You are wonderful and very gifted, in more ways than just singing. Keep on doing what I know that you love to do. Thanks for brightening my week!
You're a positive joy to listen to. Someone must indeed love us very much to give us trees. . tea . . this music, and your very talented self.
And marshmallows!
Lolli, thank you. From the bottom of my heart. You've become one of my best musician friends. Sharing the joy we find in music. And schooling me on tidbits I was unaware of.
Honestly can’t think of a better vocal coach. Covering the nuances of the band is just brilliant and the editing and the musical and singing examples inform so much. Lolli’s voice is beautiful. Best reviewer by far. Lolli is top top tier.
You are not an ugly oboe. You are a beautiful Fairy Voice Mother. And we very much appreciate that. Even before considering your extraordinary vocal analyses.
So many more songs from the Carpenters for you to explore. I sincerely hope you do. There is a reason why so many in the music industry agree that Karen had the best voice of all time. She was a once in a generation (maybe several generations) talent. And gone far too soon. Her voice is like a warm hug that embraces the soul. May I suggest listening to their song Sing? Such a fun, lyrically uplifting song, not to mention the glorious instrumental accompaniment.
Karen is as you describe. Once in a creation I say. There’s something so powerful and simultaneously so soothing about Karen Carpenter’s voice. What a gift.
I'm a musician and love this song but you've helped me hear things in it I've never noticed before.
My goal is to find a place in more conversations to use the "Bloody hell" phrase. Although I don't think it would be as endearing as when you use it 🤗
That was an incredible breakdown. Super job.
I can't get over your analysis. It is so good, so detailed and the fact you analysed Karen Carpenter, who is classified as the gold standard by many sound engineers, makes my heart sing. I love how you not only analyse the voice, but instruments and production. Love it.
Richard Carpenter is an amazing arranger. This is most obvious in their Christmas album. Karen's voice is so rich and mellow. She died much too soon.
Christmas Portraits is, hands down, the best Christmas album ever!!
It's wonderful to see the arrangement of the music get credit. Richard Carpenter was briliant. He deserves just as much credit for the music as Karen's beautiful voice added.
"game recognizes game" 😊
Here WE go mother, this lady was such a wonderful and accomplished singer. Karen had a rock solid vocal range with great timber and wonderful skill.... This arrangement is wonderful. It is SO beautiful... Richard, worked up this arrangement.. I have read comments that refer to this lovely lady -- "One Take Karen". They said she would nail it first time. PERFECT!!! SKILL !!!!!!!!! Take care and have a great 2024!!!!!
u r a diamond💎💎💎
You have the best capture of Karen that I have ever heard, bravo!
Gosh, you're so good in what you're doing... and once again I'm sooo impressed by your singing voice!
If I close my eye's it's hard to tell the difference between you and Karen's voice. I believe you could easily cover this song as beautiful as you both sound.
I remember her so well, such a gorgeous voice, such a beautiful lady. Dear Lord what a loss to all of us. Listening now make me cry, not for the song, but for her, for the waste of such beauty.
I cry for both the loss of Karen as well as this heartbreaking song which reminds me of my late husband. He was a guitarist & musician, dying very suddenly at work a year prior to our retirement. 💔💔💔
HER! VOWELS! Man !!!
Lolly this is the best reaction I have seen to this song. And i have heard so many. I have been w fan of the carpenters for over 30 years. Well done
I am such a big fan of the carpenter's have you heard we've only just begun. I go back and forth to which is the better song. What do you think
Nice reaction, it's nice to see someone acknowledge Richard Carpenter's genius as a musician and producer. His arrangements, instrument choices and pairings were had a lot to do with Karen's success.
Thanks for this reaction. This reviewer knows how to speak to what instruments are being used, and give us notes about the composition. And talk about the vocals in addition. Sure miss the Carpenters, but glad to have some gems of their songs.
You created my favorite, all time music reaction video. It is Pentatonix cover of Hallelujah. Be well and happy, Duke
Agreed, a real standout reaction. I revisit that one when i need a pick me up ❤
Karen Carpenter’s voice, as angelic as it is, could have a bit of melancholy and sadness to it that always moved me to tears in a good way….
You’re a “Superstar” reactor Lolli! Love your outstanding musical knowledge and very entertaining analyses. Love you and look forward to watching more Fairy Voice Mother reactions ❤
My Mom was so devastated when Karen passed. She was and always will be treasured. Her vocals are timeless.
Hey Lolli! Your voice is just a bout a perfect match. Very inspired, Thank You!
This is the best video you’ve done in my opinion because I got to hear you sing. I’d love to hear more of your voice.
It was always said the brains behind the voice were Richard's arranging and acumen.
Besides that, I adore watching the charming and captivating facial expressions in this analysis. Such a great thing to watch and listen to. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
