I used to work for a subsidiary of Revlon which did outlet store and the range of foundation colors back in the late 90s was pretty bad. I'd have customers come in and I'd try to match them but so many times I couldn't get close enough. The undertones and darker shades just weren't available. I think it's better now but I'm not working with makeup any more so I don't know. My friend's daughter whose family is from Sudan had a you tube Channel until she passed away at 15 from a severe asthma attack. I took her to some of the Korean cosmetics stores in our area to look around before she passed away. At one of the store the young sales person said she'd find a BB cream for my friend. I thought no way can she find a color but she did. It was so nice of the young woman to make the effort. She even asked to take a picture with her so she could show her friends that she met a famous you tuber. She definitely would have been a famous you tuber. The kindness of strangers.

Makeup is sorta art history. It gives an indication of what was going on at a particular moment in time. I loved this and would love for you to do other decades or even what women of color did, how creative they had to be.

The dolly cheek look is cute on you, but I love your round face! I would use the blush to accentuate your round face, rather than try to “correct” it. Screw those rigid 1950s standards!

thanks so much for your feedback Tori! I totally agree. In my conversation with Gabriela in the video, we discussed how at this time, there were very limited options for people of color. Gabriela mentioned that most people of color weren't able to wear foundation or base makeup at all, but they did follow the eye and lip styles that were popular during the decade. i'm definitely going to dig into this more though!
