Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
The main attraction, distraction
Got ya number than number than numb
Empty ya pockets, son, they got you thinkin' that
What ya need is what they selling
Make you think that buying is rebelling
From the theaters to malls on every shore
The thin line between entertainment and war
The frontline is everywhere
There be no shelter here
Spielberg, the nightmare works so push it far
Amistad was a whip, the truth was feathered and tarred
Memories erased, burned and scarred
Trade in ya history for a VCR
Cinema, simulated life, ill drama
Fourth Reich culture, Americana
Chained to the dream they got you searchin' for
The thin line between entertainment and war
[Chorus]
There be no shelter here (The frontline is everywhere)
There be no shelter here (The frontline is everywhere)
There be no shelter here (The frontline is everywhere)
There be no shelter here (The frontline is everywhere)
[Verse 2]
Hospitals not profit full
The market bulls got pockets full
To advertise some hip disguise
View the world from American eyes
The poor adore, keep fiendin' for more
The thin line between entertainment and war
They fix the need, develop the taste
Buy their products or get laid to waste
Coca-Cola is back in the veins of Saigon
And Rambo too, he's got a dope pair of Nikes on
Godzilla, pure mothafuckin' filler
To keep ya eyes off the real killer
Cinema, simulated life, ill drama
Fourth Reich culture, Americana
Chained to the dream they got you searchin' for
The thin line between entertainment and war
[Chorus]
There be no shelter here (The frontline is everywhere)
There be no shelter here (The frontline is everywhere)
There be no shelter here (The frontline is everywhere)
There be no shelter here (The frontline is everywhere)
[Bridge]
American eyes, American eyes
View the world from American eyes
Bury the past, rob us blind
And leave nothing behind
American eyes, American eyes
View the world from American eyes
Bury the past, rob us blind
And leave nothing behind
[Outro]
Just stare
Just stare
Just stare
Just stare
Relive the nightmare
#NoShelter #RATM #OfficialAudio
I love how the bridge can be read as American Eyes - but could also be Americanize. Nobody had bars quite like Zack de la Rocha.
“View the world through...” gave it away though
@@ryancurley2351 nah like "americanize, americanize, view the world from american eyes

Sony approached them about being on the Godzilla soundtrack because they were their "hot new band" and paid little to no attention to their content. So Rage gladly took that platform to turn out a song that rallys against consumer culture, calling out major corporations for supporting inhumane business practices and literally says "Godzilla- pure motherfuckin filler (to) get your eyes off the real killer". The brass balls this band always had can never be understated.
Very odd if that's the case - RATM were signed to Sony Music!
fighting capitalism by signing a multi million sony record deal lmao their music is great but them being commies fighting the power was always a fucking joke
@@dan812 oh look another idiot who stamps commie on anything he doesn't agree with .. go back to the 50s
@@jaerockchalk3216 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@jaerockchalk3216 I don' think he was calling them commie. it seems like instead he was saying the band presents itself as socialists, but that presentation is belied by their signing to a major label. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with him here, just pointing out that he wasn't saying what you think he was.
one of the most underrated Rage songs
@Zachary Thomas Money
You're right, just heard it today after years... Masterpiece
amazing song
I love how it begins with “the main attraction distraction”
The video portrayed propaganda about the media controlling our society with the integration between human and advancement in technology
“Memroy erased and promise gone,
Tradin' your history for a V.C.R.
Cinema simulated life in trauma
Forthright culture, Americana
Chained to the dream they got you searchin' for
The thin line between entertainment and war”
Just imagine how we will integrate with 5g
I feel like Brad and Tim never get the recognition they deserve. Probably the tightest sounding rhythm section in rock
Hell yeah!
YES
The drums slap on this
Nah, that would be Rush, and Van HayHay, ZZZ top
Rage, maybe 4th
No doubt. Their best stuff is coming, I just know it.
THE most underrated Rage song.
No such thing
Don't think so if they've done it many times at live shows
Darkness of greed my friend is a great tune by ratm
This and Born of a Broken Man
is my favorit
The most underrated thing about rage is Tim C’s bass work
I have always loved the bass on this song
A thin line between entertainment and art✌️
Agreed, Timmy C is one of my favorite bass players that got me hooked so many years ago
Hundred percent! Bass on this songs as good as it gets!
One of the most underrated bassists ever. Timmy added funky grooves to Morello's eccentricities and it's a big part of why there's nobody like Rage.
@@NeverBeNormal absolutely agree
Calm Like a Bomb is another one Tim C kills on bass.
Sony: "Hey, Zack, if you can fit "Godzilla" into the lyrics somehow, that would be great."
Zack: "Sure, no problem."
Sony: "No, not like that."
Yes! ✊🤣🤣
😂
Hahah truth though
Dude I came here from the Rage playlist and I died when I saw this comment 💀
Say no more Sony jajajaja... RATM dissing Godzilla
I rarely comment on youtube, but the fact that RATM was featured on a blockbuster film is quite ironic-and the fact that De la Rocha even says that Godzilla is a distraction/filler in the song is GOLD
That's right, its strange and cool at the same time. Its Like they agreed but but on their conditions
@hdhdjf6294 I've often wondered if they intentionally flew under the radar to do that, slate the film and bury their message in a song that the producers might not have even bothered to analyse properly.
If so then big kudos to them.
People love to talk trash about Godzilla 98 but I loved it as a six year old and the soundtrack still stands out. Don't sleep on Murrican Zilla
"They hated him because he spoke the Truth"
This is literally the best band to ever do it.
The best band ever to band
Facts
@@Daysofthenew86 lel
I never get tired of this song 😁
That breakdown at the end is lowkey among their best/heaviest moments as a band.
Yep
Gets me fucking amped and pissed off.
1997 me: "This sounds awesome."
2022 me: "Fuck the corpos."
Exactly… Didn’t understand the lyrics back in the day but today… what a fn masterpiece, every line.
1997 RATM: "Fuck the corpos"
2022 RATM: "This sounds awesome"
The predicted the breakdown in the first verse. Fucking genius
Thank you for this, Zack. Why am I only discovering RATM in my 60s?! I have needed this anger for years.
Sorry to hear that
@@wilmarcortes5449Me too. It sure hits hard.
Zakk had so much anger, which is why I can relate to his anger.

Rage Against the Machine is finally back after all these years!
Just saw them at MSG. Zach had a f'd up leg and had to sit on a guitar case the whole show but they were amazing. The four of them are so in sync they make it look easy after years apart. ✊
These pieces of shit forcing people to take an experimental gene therapy shot made by gigantic corporations, funded by tax dollars to come see their shows has gotta be one of the greatest hypocrisies of all time.
Well, sadly, they called it quits. No more RATM
Love how he turns the drum beat around for a measure at 1:52.
This powerful song by RATM has gradually been turning to reality, have you noticed?
its been reality for a while thats the point
The front lines are everywhere lately, yes it is becoming reality
Like a lot of their songs lol. Nothing has changed.
Yes streets full of cops hunting down the junkies killing their pain from walking their feet to death and holding their breath every car coming up behind them sentenced to death for being in debt just one more night without sleep going deep on 17 days of no sleep then getting handcuffed into the snake pit and then Elmwood and after 3 weeks you're back again living the nightmare being hunted everyhwere...
As a GenXer that grew up in the 90s I loved this song but it’s meaning is deeper than ever as I’ve watched this country de-evolve for the past 25 years of my adult life.
Mannnnnn they’re playing so well as a band here. 4 members, so in sync.
And Brad Wilk is killing this drum part!❤️❤️❤️
This is how I’ve been getting my mornings started since ‘94. Good for the blood 🤗
this song isn't around until '98, dude
Nicholas Yeo yeah I meant listening too RATM youngin
It came out in '98 wot. But you prob have bad memory... Or you are a time traveler?

Love that they call out the movie while being on the movies soundtrack
Keep your eyes off the real killa
This is one of their most slept on songs
My god that solo/outro always gets me🔥
Love Tom Morello's guitar sounds!
unique sound and a sound that will never be matched. a true goat
WE NEED ZACH BACK. WE NEED SOME RAGE AMONGST THE PEOPLE AGAIN. BRING IT BACK ZACH.
The problem is what they have done recently and I was a fan of the band growing up
The intro to this song got me hooked many years ago. RATM for life!
Long love Rage Against The Machine!
Me too! I've been a fan since the mid-90s.
I was playing COD sometime ago and thought "oh shit, those guys were right when they sang 'the thin line between entertainment and war, the front line is everywhere'".
The frontline is a reference to war. But it’s not a war on foreign soil. It’s right here. And it’s against our own people.
@@Metalgear222 Waged by who?
What makes this song outstanding is that it succeeds in criticizing the centrality of a particular context within that context. Despite the fact that the song is used as the soundtrack for Godzilla, the Hollywood Godzilla movie and capitalism are criticized. Such an event would be impossible in this day and age. A truly excellent critical spirit. You have to admire that these guys were in their 20's when they created this. A historically important band.
Zach was spitting straight fact! Bro was talking about the hospitals being for profit in 1998…😮
when i tell you my heart started racing when i saw the notification
Ultra Underrated
Zach de la rocha is at its finest yuh!
The Machine is real and dangerous......
"No minutes to rest..no moments to pray". Oh..I am impressed..The perfect words for the eve of destruction. The faith is Rage and the mirror shows me the surreal beauty of my face..Tear away the mask!hah
Try not to move your head, dammit hard not to headbang
That bass is mad,Brad is like a maschine and even Tom is not doing to much but perfect in the mix.
I bought this album for this song only
Silverchair's and Foo Fighters' are pretty good too!
Loved this soundtrack since I was 7 and got it back in '98
The best of the best
This bass line is awesome good
I love RATM. Such a great song. Going back quite a few years it was another movie soundtrack that got me into them. The Crow. Darkness was the song.
2024, as pertinent as ever.
This hits HARDER than my alcoholic dad!!!
Si
Absolutely a killer song, totally underrated!!
Any commercials I see before this song remind me we have already lost.
Shitty how Rage made this then broke up. This was the start of something amazing and it was already awesome to begin with
As much as I’d love new Rage music, I’m kind of glad that their whole catalogue is epic if that makes sense.
@@stevenwardrope1460 Yup, they never made a shitty song. Maybe leave it that way.
Zach quit in 2000. Your opinion is wrong
@@outdoorking69 Testify and Sleep Now In The Fire are terrible
@@BusinessZeus my opinion is mine. I can't be wrong.
Best Rage against the song .
Underrated album
I love how the bass & drums (during the verses) sound like they're coming together, just ahead of the beat (idk if I'm explaining it right). It's so cool! And another example of RATM's underated music.
The older I get the more it makes sense.
Life is war. Such is life. Humankind's greatest enemy is itself.
hope this song is hitting everybody right now, JUST STARE!!!!!!!!!!
Using this song in a movie soundtrack is peak irony
They made a song for this movies soundtrack and dissed the movie in the song.....fckn genius 💪🏾💯
this band seriously needs to reunite...no one has ever come close to what these four human beings produced together...audioslave, almost...but nothing like the rage!
Has anyone here ever seen the western movie called The Proposition? Nick Cave and Warren Ellis do the soundtrack to it. Well, they have this creepy sound the whole movie including this badass bass noise. 1:29 sounds VERY similar to it. I know, I know, thank you. I have a hell of an ear.
The song you’re referring to is named “the road to Banyon” 😊👌🏽
@@workedfortheciawhenisoldrock YES, wow very impressive. Ty
Relive the nightmare!
This jam was the 1st downloaded off Napster in about '98. Siiick
The front line is everywhere.
I agree and they should be in the roll and roll hall of fame
This aged well.
This is the second best RAGE SONG. 1 is rally around the family
Prophets in a world of profit.
Possibly my fave RATM tune. Just slams when u have the luxury of a showroom soundsystem. Good reason to mask up and head out, besides most sales ppl are happy to oblige and could use the company, not to mention how awesome it is to play it to someone for their first time. Stay safe, sane and see u in the pit!!!
Masks are for bangers.
They make you think that what you need is what they're selling, make you think that buying is rebelling
A simply badass song!!!!
Why is it always a song comes out somebody puts how underrated is I don't think any song is underrated its an art that gets through ur ears and expresses into a rhythmic display of sounds and words that some of us find appealing and others don't but along the way it satisfies an individual and he takes it personal and mentally to his own private like that's what makes a song rated and popular
The most bad-a** sounding Rage song in my book!
NOW MORE THAN EVER THE FRONT LINE IS EVERYWHERE
Gonna see Rage tomorrow night in East Troy Wisconsin!!! This concert has been 20+ years in the making!!!! Can't fucking wait!
4:25 outtasite!!!! the brass is phenomenal... and the vocals are sick🤘 yyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaoooowwww! thank for foing rage the justice it deserves!!!!

2020 anthem!
I remember in 98 or 99 when this came out. Good stuff. Used to smoke logs and drive and listen to Rage.
Para mi esta es la mejor cancion de RATM
Thanks Zach for the tips. 😉
Some high school fire
The 1st song I ever learned on guitar was Bulls on Parade.
My point is: I love RATM! This song is a great 1 shot example of how good these guys were.
It may be over. But, always rockin in my heart, mind, & soul (or whatever)!
Heck yeah man, a song with a wha-wha for the cherry pop, not bad my friend. The intro lead lick in "unforgiven" is what encapsulated my mind and drew me in forever to be ensnared as "a guitarist". Lol... "Killing in the name" was my first rage song, the 90's rock amirite? (Fun fact I recently saw some zoomer ask if this dude could play "healing in the name of", throw up a little thumbs up Jesus gif to go with it, and I was dying! Lulz)
This song kicks all types of ass...
Questo gruppo é letteralmente LEGGENDARIO.
