  • In this video Randy goes over everything that a beginner needs to know when they start powder coating! From safety supplies to getting you the right powder coating system we make starting this process EASY!
    Start Powder Coating: www.eastwood.com/eastwood-pcs...
    This kit comes with the items you need to start powder coating. Just add compressed air and a curing oven or lamp.
    EASTWOOD DUAL VOLTAGE POWDER COATING GUN
    Dual-Voltage HotCoat Powder-Coating Gun gives you the most complete coverage from tight areas to large surfaces.
    Extremely durable finish
    Coat and cure in under an hour!
    Easy to apply
    Quick color changes
    Economical
    Versatility with 2 settings
    Low 15,000-volt setting
    High 25,000-volt setting for multi-coat coverage over larger areas
    Increased powder adhesion
    Minimal overspray
    This innovative system will allow you to achieve the benefits of powder coating small parts instead of coating them with paint. The new Dual Voltage system gives you the capability to coat small areas using the Low 15kv setting. Or coat large areas using the High voltage setting 25kv. All you need is a compressed air source (5-10 PSI from a portable tank with a regulator or a compressor) and an electric oven or toaster oven.
    The Dual Voltage HotCoat gun is one of the best powder coating guns on the market today. Why powder coat? Because it gives you one of the most economical, color-durable, and longest-lasting finishes available. You'll find powder-coated surfaces are far more resistant to chipping, scratches, fading, and wear than other finishes, and the color selection is virtually unlimited, with high and low gloss, metallic, and clear finishes available. And thanks to the UV resistance of many of the powders, colors stay bright and vibrant longer. Texture selections range from smooth surfaces to a wrinkled or matte finish, plus rough textures designed for hiding surface imperfections.
    One 8-oz. bottle of powder covers the same area as 2-3 cans of spray paint, and clean-up is easy, since you can simply sweep-up the oversprayed powder. Contains no environmentally harmful solvents. HotCoat powder coating requires a 5-10psi compressed air source and dedicated electric oven (or toaster oven).
    POWDER COATING ACCESSORY KIT
    The accessories kit comes with the items you need to start powder coating except for a compressor and curing oven or lamp. The high temperature tape and silicone plugs make it easy to mask areas you do not want to get powder on. The safety wire is great for hanging parts on your powder coating rack or oven. This kit also comes with an in-line air filter to keep contaminates out of your gun and powder. Also included is an 8 oz. bottle of high gloss

    I've been powder coating at home for years. I bought the Eastwood dual voltage kit. NIC Prismatic Powders company is in my town. They have over 7000 colors and I can pick up in person and most powders I buy are under $15/pound. I like watching these Eastwood videos - this narrator is a great instructor.

    One of the best introductory powder coating videos out there (unfortunately there are very few)
    I liked the tell 'em what you're going to tell 'em, tell 'em, and tell 'em what you told 'em approach of the video and like another commenter said the high signal-to-noise ratio, also the up-front 10sec. overview of how to powder coat helps get the process in mind in an instant. Adding the benefits over paint and a glimpse of other options at the end leaves almost nothing uncovered. A couple of things that left questions in my mind though: what is the effect on the result if you do not use an air filter and how dangerous/deadly is touching the emitter rod? As a beginner it's hard to know where you can push things and where not and these are two things I have no idea about (my compressor is oil-less but I've read that doesn't mean I shouldn't still use a filter).

      I work at a paint department of one of the big three North American automakers Assembly plant. (GM, Ford, Chrysler) Right after the de greaser chemical Bath (imagine the entire vehicle being submerge in a huge chemical tank) We all powder coat the Whole Vehicle bare metal body parts including Unibody for rust prevention and to have a workable surface, this coat is Called the Ecoat and is very thick so panels imperfections can be corrected by sanding or other techniques too, then the vehicle is primed and later on the color coats are applied. Color coating the vehicle by Powder coating process is not applicable because the powder coat doesn't produce smooth enough colored surface like Paint coatings can do.

    • @leeghathaway
      @leeghathaway 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joeybreezedad I'm puzzled. You've described E-coating which has no relation to powder coating. A number of years back Axalta were looking at powder coat primers for vehicle bodies but I'm not sure this ever took off.
      BMW were using acrylic powder lacquer on certain models but eventually went back to liquid lacquers.
      AkzoNobel have a TH-cam video showing how much of a car is powder coated.

    You're wrong on e-stat (electrostatic) not working on paint. Do it everyday at work, e-stat does and will work on paint, and many other coatings. Humidity plays a huge factor in how well it works, and the parts being over charged. I have seen where it repels the paint, and where the paint gets to places you don't want it to get (Like on you so wear a mask).

    Is it possible to powder-coat the gate I have in Las Vegas? In summer the steel reaches 150F from the sun and could I use heat gun?

    • @GodFatherDeVoochi
      @GodFatherDeVoochi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see why not...the obstacles would be cleaning the gate and having a oven big enough for it... Many car parts that are powder coated get hotter than 150.

    • @leeghathaway
      @leeghathaway 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi @jajtek1 150F won't be a problem at all, just make sure you specify an architectural grade polyester powder to protect from UV.
      I wouldn't suggest using a great gun though. The whole gate needs to be at a temperature of 400F for 10 - 20 minutes, trying to get that level of heat into a gate isn't gonna happen. You need to find someone with an oven big enough to fit your gate into.

      FBI
      Not that my idea is big enough for an axle ,but I was thinking to make a metal box that enclosed the area when the oven door is fully open.
      It would basically double its size, only issue I’m thinking is it might not heat so evenly.
      Rig a top burner to sit on the oven door maybe.
      I just got one of these kits, but it’s on back order for like 2 months so I have time to get set up when it arrives.

      My Way Build a bigger oven. Search DIY powder coat oven.

    • @awashbowler
      @awashbowler 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why would you want to do car panels? For one, cured powder coating is thicker and weighs more than paint. But the biggest reason to not powder coat car panels is that you cannot polish powder coat to a mirror shine like conventional paint. Because powder coat is plastic, it smears and dulls up more than it polishes. That being said, the normal ripple look of powder coat after it is cured is what you will be left with on your panels forever.

    3:33 Powder coating oven.. otherwise know as a toaster oven!!! 3:55 200C for the rest of the world. A domestic electric oven is better for large items such as wheels... the heat is more even, and the recovery time is shorter, due to greater thermal mass.

    I just buy a used gas oven, it is possible to use it for Powder Coating?

      Well, almost all the shops that powder coat medium size parts i.e. suspension, wheels, engine and engine bay parts, etc use electric stove ovens and they have perfect results. Big powder coating ovens made to process big batches of parts are Gas powered. In my Humble opinion (its up to you to do some more research), you won't have a problem; if you exceed the curing temperature or the time in any kind of oven you will burn the powder coat. I guess you can save a lot of money in electricity doing it that way. Please, let us know of the results; not everyone have 240 Volts outlets in their Garages or small shops.

      Try throwing some powdered coffee creamer up in the air and sparking a cigarette lighter in it. Everything goes up in flames.

    This company is shit, after over 3 months of waiting for gun, I find that the company canceled order because they were unable to fulfill order. They did send the powder, I have no idea what they thought I would do with powder and no gun?
