  • Today we've got one more signature Telecaster, a 1991 Fender Custom Shop Albert Collins model! Both Trevor and Jay are out of the shop for the day but we've got Nick here to give you the run-down on the guitar before plugging things in to a 1966 Fender Deluxe Reverb for the demo.

One of the first ones to put a humbucker in the neck position on a Telecaster

I worked in my brother's music store in Tallahassee in the early '70s and there was a guy who put one on his. I thought that was pretty cool, so I made one out of mahogany with a Strat neck and used a standard bridge PUP and TWO Gibson SG Standard PUPs. Heavy guitar, that's for sure!

Thank you, Nick. You should be on here more often. You sounded killer, as usual.

It’s missing the ash tray with the translucent trucker sticker on it.

His guitar only had two positions on his three-way selector switch. The neck pickup was the nocaster, and the bridge was the neck and bridge pickup combined and out of phase. Sadly Fender doesn't even do either of those anymore. The same thing happened with Danny Gatton. Fender felt like the customer wanted more bang for their buck, so they altered the settings.

You need to tune it to Dm and use a capo up and down the neck to change the key you want to be in... Albert had his own fingering patterns that went with the Dm tuning. That's why his music, although BLUES sounds slightly different from other blue guitarists. In my view, one of the very great ones. Up there with B B King.... And so many others. But that guitar does just drip his tone.

lovely guitar and playing and all, but it's always quite a let down when someone features an albert collins telecaster and doesnt play it with the trademark capo

A capo and a Fender Quad Reverb amp are required!

The marketing Scam to con people to by these signature guitar is this for example fender markets this Tele caster as the Albert Collins Tele caster..the truth is Albert Collins played this model Tele caster..he had absolutely nothing to do with its design or its stats..I've played this particular model so should it be called the Aj Tele caster? I think you get my point..I never fell for this marketing Con Job and that's all it is Gibson is notorious for this scam..
