I was an extra in this scene. At the LA Sports Arena. They filmed for about 2 hours. Metal Shop(now Steel Panther) and Great White played before filming and WASP and Megadeth played after to keep the crowds there.
If you watch the full movie and look at the video player timeline just as he is going up on the lift, it is right at the movie’s midpoint. Structurally, a perfect midpoint moment of a character achieving their goal before things start to get complicated. Rock Star is a good story and script, and I wished they made more films like it.
It would have been even better as a series with episodes. That way bobby could be in the band for years and multiple albums. More realistic than him just quiting in the middle of a concert
And Myles F’N Kennedy !! - in an uncredited role actually singing in the crowd and pulled up on stage to take over for Marky Mark near the end of the movie! He was known in the local club scenes at the time and was told movie was looking for someone who could actually sing for the scene and they wondered if he would do it! A few years later he quit Mayfield Four and joins with the Creed guys who left Scott Stapp, to form AlterBridge. A bit of art imitating life (except they don’t do Creed songs and are much heavier and musically adventurous). 7 awesome albums later and still going strong💪.
Anyone that is or has been in a band playing in front of 20 people in a bar or even fans who have gone to an arena show will get chills watching this scene. When the house lights go down, the lighters come out, thousands of people start screaming, and the band coming out swinging with all those lights and props... Truly nothing like it. It is the dream. And then you have guys formerly in big bands who've played hundreds of shows like this who refuse to reunite because they don't get enough money or they don't like each other. The rest of us would do it for free.
Yeah, you got to look at it from their perspective though. It's nothing special when you've done it hundreds of times, made the money, can do what you want now. And doesn't help if you fuckin hate the guts of the people you're on stage with.
I was fortunate enough to tour with bigger acts that got us on big stages and festivals. There’s nothing like it dude haha seriously, I felt powerful as hell. Especially when you play well haha we used to get people rocking to classical music. Our own rendition of Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement. It got the job done everytime.
Many great scenes and this is one of them! The rise to the top and spotlight fires me up because this IS the dream! When the spotlights stop and the crowd apears it gives chills! Then the spill...Zack, Jason, Jeff Pilson (a favorite) is a great line up!
This is such a great movie, underated movie! Really a movie about getting what you wish for then was it worth it, other things in your life become more clear about what is important! Great job by Mark and Jennifer, I love this movie!
Miljenko Matijevic also had a bad stge accident. I'm so lucky I got to see Steelheart perform live a few years ago in Busan. It was amazing. They sang this song first too. Then, Livin the Life, Gimmie Gimmie, Like Never Before, Cabranet, I'll Never Let You Go, Everybody Loves Eileen, My Dirty Girl, She's Gone, and We All Die Young.
The feeling/emotion they capture as he transitions from “regular dude” below the stage to riding the elevator and becoming “rock star” is exactly what it feels like being on stage. One goes from feeling like an everyday person to feeling like an invincible Rock Star.
There are some killer scenes in this movie. I love the attention to detail. The drummer on screen is playing something pretty darn close to what's on the soundtrack, even though the big free-for-all ending. Love that.
The drummer is Jason Bonham. He played for Led Zeppelin. Zak Wylde is lead guitar. He played for Ozzy. Jeff Pilsen is on bass. He played for Dokken. They were a real band that made a real album for this movie. You were watching them all really play the song.
When I was 15 - this is what I wanted to do. I am 60. My kids never understood Metal. God I miss those days. Thank God for Metallica and Metal and Judas Priest!
I almost feel bad for todays youth that missed it. It cannot be explained, you have to have lived it.....greatest decade in the past 100 years. Probably the greatest decade of all time.
I could recognize Zakk Wylde right away. Not just through his blonde hair, but also his special way of headbanging, clothing, not to mention his extremely heavy riffs.
We need this group to come alive in 2021 ASAP I can rewind this scene a hundred times and still wish it was all in my face. I'm screaming Yaaaaaaaaaaaeh😝🤟🤘🤟🤘🤟

this scene was cruitial for the movie.. it shows that hes a performer.. the manager stopped anybody from running out to help him.. no matter what the show must go on! and of course he goes on to be a Rockstar!!!!
.. or rather, the music continues with or without him .. if he doesn't pick up the microphone, someone else will. The scene foreshadows the rest of the entire movie, thus preparing us for when he hands off that mic and walks away, and is not missed.
That energy and adrenaline of being in a real rock concert where you sing your lungs out ..its very hardly miss So many rap and pop and whatever .. This is how a rock metal sound its like .. I know its a movie .. But it reallh move my heartbeat run at 1000 mph

I remember this scene at the theatre the movie goers were yelling yeah until he fell off the steps and went completely silent till he screamed you want blood amazing experience.

WASP and Megadeth, that’s the most LA Metal show ever haha

wow that's awesome!
Me too....On more films like this!
Um yeah it's just the story of judas priest basically
Every second of this performance tops the last one. Raise the horns😂
It would have been even better as a series with episodes. That way bobby could be in the band for years and multiple albums. More realistic than him just quiting in the middle of a concert
This one song from a "concert" is better than the last 10 superbowl halftime shows combined
That blood on his face as hes still rocking. Legend!

Can't say enough about this scene! As others have said, this scene gives me chills everytime!

I know. I wash the 80s could come back cuz it looked like so much more fun than my generation
Zakk was Shreddin like a MUFFUGGER.
Probably the last time he played anything worth a damn..
I'd agree with that.
Yeah, he does that. Btw, if you have a chance to see Zakk Sabbath, don't pass it up.
I could recognize Zakk Wylde right away. Not just through his blonde hair, but also his special way of headbanging, clothing, not to mention his extremely heavy riffs.
I didnt even have to see him!! You can hear him!!
The pinch harmonics...
He looks so cool from behind 😜
ever since he formed BLS, I now call him Captain Caveman
No shit, sherlock
that audio ramp after the fall with the reversed drum is so epic, 1:40 the best .

One of my favorites I have seen is Paul Stanley's hair on fire and him still singing or Dave Growl brakes his leg to return and continue the show.
My only issue with this scene is that we never got to see Zakk shred that amazinf solo!

Just go see steelheart and Miljenko matijevic and you’ll hear that amazing voice
They were a real band. They made the album for the soundtrack. Huge talent.
This scene still freaks me out to this day. Lol
Awesome movie!! Soundtrack too!
Absolutely love this movie!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
So weird seeing Zakk clean shaven. I didn't even recognize him the first time I saw it.
Those sound effects though. The riffs are unmistakably Zakk Wylde
pnut3844able haha totally, I remember back in the day he was only clean shaven for this and the no more tears tour! His debut
You should see what he looked like when he started with Ozzy
Saw this very thing happen to K.K. Downing on the Screaming For Vengeance tour back in '82.
Jeff Pilson
This was a great movie. A few lessons learned.
