    Greatest scene in the film, along with the first concert. Anyone who's struggled to build their dream can relate to this. I'm a film composer and this is like the moment after I spent 15 to 20 years struggling on small projects, working crappy side jobs to stay alive, then after doing an interview on that series or film you REALLY want.....you get that call, and they say...'You've got the gig". Nothing compares to that feeling. Changes your life.

How it comes down to just the manager* and the guitarist to decide. How they only want him to do this one part of one song, because if he can do this part, he can do their whole catalog.

    • @Slask7
      @Slask7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      This scene is so well crafted.
      The writing and performances are spot on, especially if you’re a musician and know how this situations unfold.
      The music is divine, the director chose the perfect song for the audition, and Matijevic recorded an amazing take: not as perfect as the original version, because the voice has to showcase Izzy being shy and nervous, but gains more power as he progresses through the chorus thus reflecting his newfound confidence.
      Last but not least the sound mix was a superb choice: we can hear from inside the booth, so it’s Izzy’s pov, isolated from the rest. After they stop the song and talk, we hear his breath above every other sound. This way the audience is truly immersed in Whalberg’s position, and he delivers both the anxiety and excitement through his facial expressions and with his breath.
      Brilliant.

    For any youngins watching this: the mid-to-late 80's were one of the best eras in American history. We had moved past a lot of the racial and cultural divides, no one took themselves too seriously, competition was fierce but also inspiring others to greatness, people went for their dreams, and the music was at the zenith of it all. Entertainment wasn't just a platform for political theater as it has become today. Free speech, freedom to treat your body as your own, and freedom to gather were all held sacred. You can see it in all the movies, and hear it in all the music.

    The people who think this is Mark Wahlberg's voice...I can't even. The vocals for ALL his Steel Dragon songs were sung by Steelheart frontman Miljenko Matijevic. "We All Die Young" is in fact a Steelheart song. This is just a harder, more up-tempo version of the '96 original. The only actor in the entire movie whose actual singing voice is featured is Myles Kennedy, the singer who Wahlberg pulls on stage toward the end of the movie to replace him. But Myles of course was already a real-life rock star.

    Feels good to have Jimmy McNulty from the Wire tell you you got the gig.

    This movie didn't get a lot of credit when it was released, but I think it's developed a cult following over the years. Yes, some of it's silly, like the Batmobile drag race, but the underlying story of a kid who is granted a shot at his dream, loses himself to the debauchery which is life on the road with millionaire rock stars, and sheds it all for authenticity and a shot at his true love is heartwarming.

    If steel Dragon were a real band they’d be right up there with the great metal of the 80s like skid row, Motley Crue, Ratt, Dokken. All those guys and more. My Pops was a huge metal fan back in the day and absolutely loved this movie. I loved it too. He’s passed away 10 years ago and when Wahlbergs character belts out ”and we all die young”.... hooooo boy that hits me hard. Great film all around.
