lol at ABT keeping it real and showing how actual ballet dancers dress like they picked their outfit out of what's left in the closet before laundry day.
that’s REAL balletcore
Thats actually whats fun about ‘’real’’ balletcore! The mix of personal style and tradition, loose and fitted, nonchalant and disciplined. I love it. So much more inspiring than the ballet stereotypes.
That’s nothing special. I’ve been doing that for way too many years.
no one wears trash bag shorts anymore? i didn’t see a single windbreaker at ABT 😮
honestly, how cool would it be if a fashion brand like dior hired a choreographer for a fashion show and had real ballerinas dance down the catwalk??
if they cast "insert profession" every time the model needed to present as "insert profession", the job for models wouldn't exist. It's literally in their job description to act and present as "insert any role/profession/art type/....". I don't get why is this such a foreign concept for people.
@Bla Bla they are selling the product, that's the only thing that matters. There are teams of people on set, so getting injured is unlikely, and even if it happens, i'm sure they are covered.
iris van herpen did this and it was beautiful
@@dawnriddler I was referring to a fully choreographed show. not merely some photographs. actual dancing
@@SM-lr8iy I can't wait to look it up!

"The PERFECT pirouette"
"She did not do a single pirouette!"😂
Here's what gets me: the looks would be so cute WITHOUT pointe shoes. Just wear ballet flats, or flats that look like ballet soft shoes. You don't have to have the shoes, especially in a POINTE SHOE SHORTAGE.
Edited to add: Josephine had a GREAT POINTE (lol). Use professional dancers in ballet inspired advertisements. That's really unfair to these dancers and disrespectful to not use them, and to use models who don't know what they are doing. It can actually be dangerous to the models and their bodies if they don't know what they are doing.
Exactly! I like what Rodarte did last year with their ‘balletcore’ collection. They made pointe-inspired heels that are very cute imo, but aren’t pointe shoes nor are they supposed to be. They also had at least one (that I know of) real dancer in the campaign in actual pointe shoes!
Taking inspiration from ballet can be done so right, but unfortunately it’s rare to find. Most brands are just hopping on the trend.
Absolutely agree, every ballet dancer, like myself, would be disrespected.
Ballet takes years of learning and with the right age, proper training, you can go en pointe, when the teacher is allowing it.
When you are finally going en pointe, it takes years of training to look good in them and dance with them like they are not hindering you.
The gracefulness with the pointe shoes, comes after hard training, sometimes bleeding and with setbacks every way if you want to move forward and be better.
Said by a ballet dancer, who is dancing for 19 years now and is a professional ballet dancer/ballerina.
I appreciate the spoof video where a dancer is imitating non-dancers modeling dancewear. It was everything. So accurate.
Oooh I wanna see it
"That's an interesting fifth position..." Took the words right outta my brain!🤣
I once showed side-by-side pictures of dancers and non-dancers in the same positions to friends. I was shocked that none of them could tell the non-dancers from the dancers.
Yeah I thought ballet core was just taking inspo from it and incorporating it into fashion. I didn’t know people actually just dress up as dancers. Those sneakers with the ribbon, flowy skirt, and bows on the bags is what I had pictured because it took inspo but made it more.
Several dancers are also models with proper modeling agencies, it’s not that difficult to hire a real dancer if you want your model to pose on pointe, and bonus points…they actually know how to tie them so the photoshoot is actually going to turn out better.
Same goes for musicians, so many bad photoshoots where the model doesn’t even know how to hold the instrument properly…just hire a musician.
I love how Josephine knew it was bad before it even started 😂
“It’s the reverse first position” 😂
"it's -1" KILLED me 😂😂
When I first read the title, I thought it was referring to ballet inspired workouts, lol. When I realized it meant fashion, I mentally prepared myself for Josephine's horrified reactions. I'm with Josephine about the models, use actual dancers for these kinds of shoots, a lot of them could use the employment plus so many of them are model gorgeous.
All of the ribbons draped under flat shoes instead of under the foot inside the shoe... the ribbons are gonna get so dirty, and then they'll slip around and the dirty will show!
I'm not mad about the model in the soft slippers, though. I used to work at a grocery store and once a week I did an overnight shift changing all the weekly flyer price tags. I would wear my old ballet slippers inside my boots instead of socks so I could shed the boots as soon as the store closed (customers left) and the uniform didn't matter anymore. Way more comfortable! Plus, nobody cares HOW you move through the aisles when you're working an overnight price shift, right? Long aisles of lovely smooth floors and 8-foot shelves blocking the view of anyone else working overnight...
As someone who took ballet as a child but stopped- I 💯 agree that if you're not trained it's dangerous to attempt point. Like if you mess up your Achilles that could haunt you 😱
Dude I AM trained in ballet and my achilles haunts me 😅
“It’s the ribbons for me”
Honestly same as a ballet dancer that first thing that I look at are the ribbons 😂
It pains me when I see non-dancers/non-ballerinas in dance or ballet commercials. There are plenty of talented ballerinas out there who could have a job, and their feet are GORGEOUS!
100% true, get dancers jobs and let them do what they are trained to do.
But also, I rejected jobs where they wanted "Ballerinas". Because sometimes they tell you to do it wrong and I don't do it wrong if I can also do it right. Those people also need to be open to actual dancers doing their thing.
Let’s appreciate the sheer will Josephine has to sit through this 5 minute video because I can’t
I used to own a pair of shoes and they were actual shoes that were made to be similar to ballet slippers. They were brown fake leather with elastic cross straps over the top of the feet. Very pretty and very comfortable. I, for the life of me cannot remember the brand, but they were my favorite semi-dress shoe for work. They were so comfortable I wish I would have bought 10 pairs!
Actual ballet footwear looks less cute on people who don’t dance (especially the pointe shoes)
I wont mind purchasing those sneakers with ribbons. 100% agree these companies need to hire actual dancers or use ballet flats only. Pointe shoes are pricey this would be a great gig for many dancers or even dancers in training at a high enough level
2:29 I stood like that in my ballet class once and my teacher yelled at me and literally grabbed my arms to pull me straight lmaoooooo
Why do people who know absolutely nothing about ballet think that putting point shoes on someone else who knows absolutely nothing about ballet suddenly makes them look like a ballerina?
right!?! its immediately obvious once they in pointe shoes! just wear ballet slippers instead so you look less like a doof :(((((
Because they don’t know that. They want to look like a ballerina and think if they wear something vaguely tutu-esque and pointe shoes, they have succeeded. They may not be able to tell the difference between themselves and pictures or videos of real dancers unless a real dancer points it out to them.
What seems completely obvious and second nature to dancers is not at all obvious to people who have never taken a dance lesson and who aren’t interested in learning about it or watching it either. They want a cute look for a short time, and then they want to follow the next trend whatever it may be.
Non-dance people are absolutely astonished when they discover what an all-consuming commitment it is to be or to become a professional ballet dancer. I only found out when I discovered the TV show “Dance Academy.” When I told my friends about it, every single one of them was flabbergasted!
I never had an interest in or appreciation for ballet before that. It seemed like an esoteric art form, which is kind of unapproachable and stand-offish, or even snobby. I was wrong!
I’m glad I found out because it has turned me into a ballet fan! I have so much respect for everybody who participates, including small children and adult beginners.
Are there any TH-cam ballet channels that you would recommend? Or websites or DVDs or anything? Thank you in advance. Have a nice weekend!
@@dronesclubhighjinks 😂😂 True enough
As soon as I saw the term "ballet core" on an online shop I thought "this is going to make Josephine cry" 😂
I have never taken a ballet lesson in my life, and even I could tell that the girl in the "PERFECT pirouettes" ad was not a ballerina.
I'm not even a dancer and the side gap on Wendy's shoe gave me palpitations like NOOOO What are you doing!!!!
I'm kinda torn on this. Non dancer models showing ballet-core, ballet inspired outfits is to advertise to other non-dancers that you don't need to be a dancer to enjoy ballet esthetic wear. If real dancers were used it would appeal more other dancers and non-dancers would feel timid in trying it out.
Sooo . . . I thought ballet core is a fashion thing intended to send the message, "Look, you can be as pretty as a ballerina while being awkward, untrained, gawky, not have good posture, just a normal girl dressing like a dancer." Or at least that's my take on that. Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City? And the real life Sarah Jessica Parker who wears ballet core to big events (and supports ballet)? I don't think the fashion people want the poised, trained, talented professional or amateur dancers because it moves "ballet core" fashion one step away from the general public. Who might be intimidated by the real thing because they slouch, they trip, they do any number of non-dancer movements but still want to dress like a dancer. Look at me, being all psycholig-atey. 😂
I agree with this! i do think they need to stop telling non-dancers to go on pointe tho :')
It's funny how what people think ballet dancers dress is something you'd never wear as a dancer.
If I dressed in the real world the way I dress in the studio, I'd feel so naked!
“she did not do a SINGLE pirouette” 😂😂😂 my exact thoughts
Emily ratajowski is the model/actress you said you liked. I like her ad for the satin miu miu ballet flats. and the row makes a pretty pair, too. I also wish ballerinas were considered for modeling. they can move, pose with elegance, know their angles, and typically have lean leggy bodies that would work to sell fashion to the aspirational. I hate that you need to be 5'10 to be a fashion model. shorties need representation too!
Those Miu Miu flats at 0:46 are NOT pointe shoes or even soft shoes. They are ballet flats that are made to look like ballet soft slippers. They have a regular sole, so you can wear them outside, so I don't see anything wrong with that ad.
Exactly!! Why can’t actual ballerinas and dancers who do this properly and stunningly do this instead??
Josephine pls review or do a video on Gauthier Dance in Stuttgart Germany 😍 they have some really funny choreographies and an amazing ballet outreach program where they go teach kids and the elderly and lots of other ppl to dance 😍
There is nothing wrong with people wearing Leo’s and skirts and leg warmers and little wrap sweaters and whatever they think is “balletcore” as fashion. I get it, it’s cute. But please, leave the wish pointe shoes out of it. And the ribbons. And the attempting ballet moves. And if you want to live ballerina dreams, get yourself in an adult or teen ballet class - learn what it’s all about and invite dancing joy into you’re life! And fashion companies hire real dancers. Also can we stop calling everything an “aesthetic” gen Z thanks.
"I want to unlearn it" 🤣🤣🤣
I NEED MORE OF THESE VIDEOS.
I would love to see Josephine react to Marianela Nuñez's advertising campaign for her Nela line with Freed.
it's giving ballet flat meet gladiator sandal with all of the ribbons tied up the legs!!! 🙂
I understand that people shouldn't gatekeep ballet and people are allowed to appreciate it... but sometimes you have to gatekeep it from certain people 💀
We need some kind of PSA explaining that pointe shoes are not Roman sandals...
Ngl I hate but also love ballet core. It sometimes comes across as disrespectful, however at the same time, it's putting people who don't know what they're doing into pointe shoes/making them do ballet steps, and it's kind of proving the difficulty of ballet to the world, bc let's face it, they have no clue what to do in the slightest. It gives an idea of how much effort/grace and strength ballet takes. I don't know I have such mixed and contradicting opinions on ballet core 😭
Josephine " my art is not your fashion statement!"
Hah! Now I have a perfect way of articulating the line between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation.
Lol the real dancers shading ballet core. Sent me😂
I don't see a problem here. Because to represent fashion, we have models. When the fashion is balletcore it's ok the models do their poses and dance, it's their job, when the fashion is punk, same thing, the models can fake the punk and they can do their poses, and that's ok. We don't need real ballerinas or real punks to represent fashion, because it's just an inspiration, it's just a fashion trend, nobody wants to diminish a real person, a real profession, they want to honor this lifestyle and say how amazing are the fashion elements of that lifestyle or that profession. Well, in my opinion, of course.
The extra hilarious thing about the pointe shoes in the shower one is that the lyrics of the song that they butcher includes the line “no, I’m never gonna dance again.”
why am I actually honored that I was one of the example videos lol
Ballet core is Natalia osipova's shoes and Skylar Brandt's tights. And waaaaaay too many warmups.
3:42-3:47 idk if it’s just my perception but she tied them shoes like she was fed up with seeing it so she was like “THIS IS WHAT YA’LL LOOK LIKE. LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT IT! 😡” 😂
Josephine, been wanting to write this for at least a year. Kept me up at times at night!! 😆You’re in such a unique position to revolutionize the world of ballet. Why can’t you make a more durable and comfortable shoe? With all the modern materials out there, imagine having a shoe that even lasts one month on the professional dancer? Or how thrilled parents would be to replace shoes less often? Or even college students of dance or anyone for that matter. And to have a shoe that conforms to the foot instead of deform and harm? If Nike and hoka can make some great shoes why can’t you? Pointe shoes have been made the same way from the beginning… we can’t do better for women and their feet? With all the modern materials out there, the diagnostic imaging, the 3d printing, we can’t have a flexible yet durable and beautiful shoe that is customizable to different feet? That isn’t hand made by a man? 🤣. Why we don’t have pointe shoes with built in memory foam and things like that to make it more comfortable and supportive, able to accentuate an arch, keep from puckering at the heel.. modern materials are capable it just needs a revolutionary. You’re in that position. Go change the world for the better. No revolutionary had it easy. Ballet is steeped in tradition and those who suffer want those who come after to suffer too. Start with the young and a transition shoe or the recreational dancer who needs that support. In time people will realize that greater and more beautiful things can be accomplished in the world of dance. If only their feet would be taken care of 😀🤣
Love your commentary and so true that real ballerinas should be used for all these campaigns! Feel the same way in my sport when women with matchstick legs model cycling clothes - lol!
Literally so off topic but one day i wanna meet you i really wanna do pointe one day🤩and get my first oair of pointe shoes one day🤩🤩🤩i love all your videos🤩🤩🤩
I love you I’m starting ballet hope I can see you fit in my point❤️
My friend told me she wanted to start ballet because of ballet core and the pictures she showed me were very... interesting
cant wait to see fencing core
Josephine please react to Navillera, it's a beautiful Korean drama about ballet 🩰
slayyyyyyy josephine!!
-1 position. hahahaha
“I learned something today. I want to unlearn it.“
NOOO NOT THE IKEA ONE 😂😭 and THE MIUMIU 💀💀
wtf is the point of this video beyond screaming "no" at a laptop. Gave up at 1:01 as there was no explanation about what was wrong. SMH. Left me shouting "no" at my laptop. LOL
Quick question, anyone know why bloch keeps raising their prices for pointe shoes? I love the Eurostretch ones by bloch but they became too expensive so I need to switch shoes, and it made me so sad because it took me years to find those shoes that I could even dance in. I built up a lot of strength but the shoes I have now feel terrible on my feet. I’m wearing Russian Brava right now if that helps. I need help!
ahhh the disheveled look - so inspiring, so lovely, so definitively ballet
jesus
this is why it's hard to have any respect for the fashion world - all appearance and no substance - by definition
Josephine is being kind as always, but the reality of it is that no one is forcing those models to be involved in ridiculous shoots; nor does everything indeed have to be meaningful/ a big cause whatever. However, these examples only show that even from a business practice point of view you're failing to take advantage of what would be the best strategy to have the biggest impact with your marketing campaign - i.e. using those who know how to represent the environment you're supposedly trying to emulate...
I went to a high school play recently of Anastasia and let me tell you, even as a non-dancer who watches Josephine's videos, I was nervous, lol. You could tell that only one of them was even a little bit trained.
I just saw my fave store…. Has ballet core fashion….. I own a dance store….. I couldn’t even look LOL
I’ll second the request to have actual ballerinas do ballet in ads - as a pianist, can I also suggest actual musicians playing piano/cello/whatever in content too? Such a pathetic look on models who have never touched the instrument! And their hands don’t even approximate the sound being produced
I'm a violinist and have never danced, I just enjoy watching ballet and learning about it. I totally agree!! I was watching a movie the other day. The music on the stand was mostly very difficult 16th and 32nd note passages. The violins were moving their bows like whole notes.
I think Twoset Violin does that type of video, critiquing how TV shows and movies portray strings players. I think these creators need to collab (dance [actual dancers] and well trained/professional instrument players) and do a video like that that critiques movies and television shows with both dancing and orchestral music playing portrayed in them.
You should react to Breaking Point. It is an older reality show about ballet dancers
0:35 the model is Emily Ratajkowski
thank you for reminding me to post one of the most cursed photos of me which happens to be in my alexpress pointe shoes :D i will tag you
Hey so my mom was in the nutcracker and she says when I get my first pair of point shoes she says she is going to show me how to break them in but I don’t know if I should break them in
0:17 that's my sleep paralysis demon right there
I’ve done ballet my whole life, with a technical teacher, but I think it’s actually kinda cute when they do it wrong and even I do things with “bad” technique for more artsy pics sometimes. So, there’s a place for it in my opinion.
I always thought balletcore was just normal ballet, like dancing and stuff💀
3:14 my friend wanted to borrow my pointe shoes once and i was young and let her. She said "I got them dirty and put them in the washer and dryer" 😱
"i'ts negative 1" IM DYING KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Ballerinas need representation by an agency to get jobs ahead of models. I don't even know if there is a ballerina agency.
If they are going to do ballet core… hire trained ballerinas and dancers to do the advertisements (film, print, etc.).
The fact that they never make a single Google search: "how to wear pointe shoes"
Whats the music in the first clip? I like it!
1:41 that’s an interesting fifth position 😦👀🥴
You should react to dance moms!!!!
The ribbons... I CAN'T EVEN
I actually got a miumiu ad before this video..l🤣
Also not a ballet dancer but these are SO CRINGING 😬
I dislike the ribbon because I feel like it makes me shorter 🤷🏻♀️
Hi . I love your videos
The celebrities one applies to cosplayers as well 😂🥲
I wish i could do ballet, but it is heavly criticised in my country (lebanon), i think their is non, even if there was i would be unable to do it because men are always criticised for dancing like girls 😓😓😓
Lol. Careless whisper. Hahahahaha
I get what you say about casting ballerinas for ballet themed adverts but wouldn’t they be as misplaced there (ballerina as a model) as models as ballerinas? The two jobs are so different
The ribbons always look so embarrassing 😭 like how to say you know nothing about ballet without actually saying you know nothing about ballet 😬
I just got fitted at your location in santa ana
listen, I love a ballet core outfit, I do, I think we all deserve to feel like a ballerina once in a while even if we are not talented enough to actually be one (it's me, I'm we). HOWEVER, please for the love of everything holy STOP PUTTING NON BALLET DANCERS ON POINTE SHOES 😱 they'll break someone's ankle one day!!
❤ ABT part. The rest was 😬
I am mentally and physically hurt I am now going to wash my eyes out . Personally wear what you want just not ballet core Infront of me.
Ngl either hire models who were ballerinas eg hailey cuz she used to do ballet professionally or kazuha who studied ballet in europe under a company or ballerinas for actually interesting shoots
Josephine❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😄
love it
Thank you for sharing my video 😂😂🫶🏼🫶🏼 3:59
I like to dress “ballet inspired” but I love ballet so much and I would never wear pointe shoes.
