@@Pokemonleafmon The original question *as posed by the video* in 0:39 He only answers it at the very end (sort of?) by saying *Into the Spider-Verse* was the best movie, but there are like 7 Spider-Men in that movie so still unanswered. It's OK to not answer the question, but it's really not a hot-take to say they're all good in some way.
@@LegalizeTax well, let's make an incredibly wild assumption from his statement. In Into The Spider-Verse, we have 7 spider men. They are Peter Parker, Peter B Parker, Gwen, Peter Porker, that robotic mech one, Noir, and of course Miles. I don't think it could be Peter Parker, as you don't see nearly enough of him to make a judgement about his character. Noir is basically Spider Batman. Gwen isn't a Spider MAN, so it probably isn't her. Nor is the mech suit one. Peter Porker is legendary, but obviously a joke character and doesn't really have a sad backstory or anything. Probably not him. Now we have Miles and Peter B Parker. No idea which one of these it could be, but I'm gonna guess Miles.
"ok spiderman do a flip". easily one of my favorite scenes in a spiderman movie by far. It is so funny and charming I can't help but smile every time I see it.
The way I see it, Spider-Man is like pizza- I’ll never say I’ve eaten a BAD pizza. Do I have a favourite? Sure. Does my favourite vary from day to day? Hell yeah. Will I ever say a pizza deserves to be insulted, or tell people they’re wrong if it’s they’re favourite? God no.
I’ll add to this analogy. There are a fair share of pizzas that I can’t stand, but people happen to adore. And that’s perfectly fine. I don’t think anyone should feel wrong for whatever Spider-Man is their favorite. Just because Tom is my favorite doesn’t mean Andrew and Tobey don’t have their strengths, and that I can’t acknowledge them.
I’m happy that everyone is getting on board with Andrew Garfield after No Way Home. I always felt he was under appreciated & I love that he redeemed himself throughout NWH.
I don't know how people liked Andrew garfield in no way home. As to me he seemed like he forgot what made his spider man and just copied Steve Harrington and Kurt's world.
Fr. To be honest, when I first watch TASM 1 I was kinda disappointed because it got rebooted and I'm still not used seeing another actor playing Spider-Man. but eventually I started loving that film to TASM 2 because of how the cast acts/portrays the character especially the chemistry between Gwen and Peter are just so natural that it doesn't feel like it was forced.
@@autobotproductions1244 Because Andrew's incarnation sadly involved alot of flaws in the direction in his films, and TASM2 was full on stuffed dog shit, all of this due to it being HEAVILY Studio influenced. This leading to nothing but a brand, that's only purpose was to make more and more movies, for nothing but money. Tom's movies while lighthearted/fun with more simple and focused stories, those stories often were TOO lighthearted, were the humour was not only immature and bland, but was greatly overused, especially when interrupting serious moments, and the overall storyline and direction choices were VERY different from the character, TOO different. So it ended up being a VERY inaccurate, weightless, silly incarnation of the Character. But No Way Home fixed the vast majority of Tom's problems by chucking him into the deep end, with all the responsibilities, consequences and sacrifices all up to him to deal with. Leading to a heartfelt, and decently comic ending, and rebirth for Tom's character. And with Andrew, it allowed the very talented and enthusiastic actor, who happens to be a very big Spider-Man fan, to make the most of it, without studio interference. Thus, leading to a well deserving impactful and emotional redemption.
@@autobotproductions1244 ikr. When I watched those scenes of them doing nothing but complimenting each other, I was like "you're right. You are all amazing. This is how the fandom should be." Yet minutes after watching the movie, I go to see clips on TH-cam and already in the comments I saw people comparing tom and tobey
No Way Home was such a glorious homage to all that Spider-Man is without feeling too fan service-y. I thought maybe it was getting too much hype but no, truly one of the MCU's best
I feel like Spider-Verse did a much better job in terms of subtlety with their "love-letter" approach, but I agree that it's a good way of incorporating fan service. It's like if Rise of Skywalker was actually good
@@r.j.tammaro8383 I think NWH had a way harder job of presenting the things in its plate than spider verse and the fact that it nailed that makes me admire NWH more.

But was is bad fan service, which caved into idiots who only had the most knee-jerk hive mind reactions to the previous entry but still disappointed everyone? No. Was it fan service that gave people what they wanted without completely bastardizing a previous entry? Yes. Good fan service, but absoltuely fan service
@@gamebond6248 Oh yeah, I ws COMPELTELY expecting the movie to go wayyy into the fucking deep end and rely solely on pleasing fans, but they made.a decent story to go off it
Perfectly well said. Every Spidey has their ups and downs and they all have their own unique spin on the character. None of them are necessarily ‘better’. It’s just personal preference
Something that I think is often overlooked is Electro/Max's story in Amazing Spider-Man 2. I never felt more sorry for a villian in any superhero movie than I did with him. The way he gets treated and all of the misunderstandings that lead to him become a villain break my heart every time.
@@cadebuckland3471 thats true (besides the best characters thing, a lot of other characters were amazing too) , and its what made the movies so interesting
People keep trying to use this as a defense at how Peter idolizing heroes in the MCU is comic accurate, but it's actually pretty bad evidence lol. Peter tried to join the FF because he was super broke and thought it would come with a good paycheck. As soon as he found out that the FF members don't take profits, (They pay for their expenses and any other money goes into developing technology for the team) he decided that he wanted nothing to do with the team. Source: Amazing Spider-Man #1
To be fair though, the first thing Peter asked when he met Tony in civil war was if there was money involved in the project. Also, his main goal in homecoming was to get a full time job as an avanger. Like if he said yes to tony at the end of the film, he would have moved up state to the avengers complex and not have to worry about any money issues.
@@amandusvonborstel7515 he is also mutanist to them on some occasions, the same as Jony Storm. "They are not precisely human", "look who is saying it", "good point"
its so refreshing to see someone defend the andrew garfield movies. sure, theres a lot of flaws but every spiderman movie has flaws (except for spiderverse) and the garfield movies are FUN. they’re emotional, they have heart, they have comedy, they have incredible actors. i never get tired of watching them
Honestly I’m gonna do a hot take, I don’t get the spider verse hype I mean it’s really good but I don’t think it’s better than homecoming spider man 2 or even spider man 1. I feel like spider verse has a lot of problems like spider pig, that character really takes me out of the movie and it makes it feel childish. The villains I also feel lack in spider verse they are just villainous to be villainous and you lose the beautiful duality that you get with doc ock in 2 or graves in homecoming. I think a part of what makes Spider-Man villains so good is that they in essence resemble spider man they are faced with great power and great responsibility but they are what spider man could be if he gave into the easy road of evil.
It seems each one got vindicated in NWH. The first two got proper send-offs after the disasters of Spider-Man 3 and the Amazing Spider-Man 2. Maguire’s seriousness and natural webbing (which so many fans criticized) is celebrated. Garfield’s underrated performance is celebrated. Holland’s youth is celebrated, and him giving up so much makes him actually feel like Peter Parker. NWH made me appreciate all three of them for their own unique and unforgettable contributions to this storyline. (Also, I can watch them all as one story now-which is a plus.)
My opinion on the TASM series has shifted as I’ve gotten older. I went from hating it to actually enjoying most of TASM1 and parts of TASM2. The one thing that hasn’t changed for me is how I feel about Andrew as Spider-Man. To me, he has always been excellent as the character and having him back in NWH was a treat
What's your take on Raimi's films? Internet's been lately shitting on those and it breaks my heart because while campy and all I found its human elements the most sincere and helped me through grief and some downs in my life
I used to be a Tobey purist-my wife had to force me to go see Homecoming (that was before I was really into the MCU, now I’m in way too deep and watch everything religiously) and I ended up loving it. I think they nailed it right out of the gate with Tom’s Spider-Man; you can feel the conflict between Peter’s desires and his responsibilities throughout the whole movie. Far From Home was awesome too, and actually made Mysterio one of my favorite characters, they did such a good job with him and making him have a lasting impact on Peter. As for the Amazing Spider-Man movies, I avoided them like the plague for a long time, and I only agreed to watch them after seeing the trailers for No Way Home. There’s definitely stuff that doesn’t work great, but most of the performances are great and I had such a great time with Andrew’s charismatic portrayal of the character. SPOILERS FOR NO WAY HOME: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 felt like it was missing a proper resolution for Electro, and I remember really wanting to see Peter talk to Max and tell him that he’s not insignificant or worthless. So glad we got that missing piece in No Way Home, I think I was the only one who kinda freaked out that I got that wish granted, since nobody else seemed to be clamoring for anything like that.
@@Ojas97 First of all MCU Peter is in no way Miles Morales, except for the origin story which is similar for all the Spidermen. You are saying his desires and responsibilities aren't made that big of a deal, which isn't the same for Miles Morales as he is extremely responsible even though he is immature. Besides, Miles is way more confident than Peter Parker which further proves the point... MCU Spiderman did have consequences, it's just that they didn't spiderman in spotlight. In homecoming, he stopped Vulture's black market for illegal weapons, in far from home he stopped mysterio from creating a fake hero image and creating thousands of casualties. And you know about NWH... If you meant if he faced any consequences himself then yes he did, he had to sacrifice his relationship with Liz to defeat Vulture, his identity got revealed in the second movie and then he lost Aunt May and Everyone including his close friends forgot his identity...
@@Ojas97 Peter Parker had Norman Osborn as his mentor who later turned out to be Green Goblin, here it's Tony Stark which has been taken from Ultimate Spiderman (he's a huge fan of tony). Also, as I said before there is no fixed way of potraying spiderman's story. It would have had become repetitive if MCU Spidrman had the same storyline as the other two. Even if some elements of miles has been used he is still far different from his character. Someone could have stopped vulture if not spiderman? It's the plot of the story, ironaman wasn't taking vulture seriously and had he gotten stark tech, who knows what could he have done? You think Spiderman being arrested for for his identity leak linked with Mysterio's mureder is the consequence? No, the major problem was that all of spiderman's enemies came to know about his family and friends identity too... I can agree NWH home had a bit of messy story. But out of all triology endings, NWH was the best because Spiderman-3 was the worst of all and TASM2 was one of the if not the worst.
In my opinion its the Film when he finally takes the jump from trying to be Peter Parker and allows him to go full time as Spider-Man. From now on he shouldn't be struggling to identify who he is but is Spider-Man first.
"Emotionality" is my new favorite word. Also I'm so glad you gave the Amazing Spiderman movies the credit they deserve. Andrew Garfield really kills it as Spiderman, if only it had worked out.
@@kilnareth7970 Lol what are you saying man ? I haven't saw any Toxic Tobey fan. Showing their love for Tobey doesn't make them toxic instead Tom Fans are Kids so they usually do childish and Triggered comments. Though I like Andrew more.
Civil War problem: Tony didn't expect Steve to actually "fight" back, especially with a team of people, and had Peter on standby to shoot webs at him- apparently a plan they had previously gone over. That the situation devolved into that big of a clusterfuck came as a surprise to Tony as much as anyone else.
I honestly could see it both ways. like tony knows he killed multiple people saving the world, he literally has that slapped in his face by the grieving mother, why would he recruit spiderman? or on the flip side tony is a genius , but for a genus he makes some really dumb mistakes, mistakes that still haunt him or people he loved till this day: iron monger- couldnt see his business partner was dealing under the table whiplash- sins of the father aim- treated people that looked up to him like crap ultron- went all over protective and built a robot but somehow forgot to teach it compassion since ya know he did it once before with jarvis( potentially other times like karen and friday) zemo- the problem he sought to correct with ultron caused more problems mysterio- took another mans work and made it a joke like if anything I feel like this kind of proves tony is really bad at thinking things through, he's an engineering genius, but when it comes to problems tony's plan is usually to ignore it or throw technology at it. my point is tony doesn't seem to think through his problems completely, he just kinda comes up with a plan and goes with it, problems or holes be damned.
I love how Tony just says "F it, I'm bringing in Spiderman!" Even though it goes against his motivations. I I just find it hilarious, and it is 1000% worth it to get Spiderman in the MCU.
Let's be honest, that is a very Tony Stark thing to do. He just makes the worst decisions sometimes. It's the same guy who said "I'm tired of creating weapons, I will BECOME the weapon" (even if it ended well you gotta admit it was a weird choice).

Nobody gives the wind turbine scene the credit it deserves. I have been absolutely obsessed with that scene since i saw it ... that is the most spider-man thing that has ever been done.
I've seen a lot of TH-camrs talk about how that is the best part of TASM 2, and I completely agree! It's also interesting to learn how Andrew Garfield played basketball with kids in NY offset in the Spider-Man suit. He really is the best actor for the character; a true embodiment of Spider-Man.
Garfield version has always been my favourite. I didn't grow up with The Raini Trilogy so there was no nostalgia factor there for me also the fanwork around Garfield version was amazing, with the expectation of a Avengers crossover. There also this video called "the militarization of Spiderman" that really express my feelings on the subject.
Andrew Garfield is actually a pretty faithful and good interpretation of Peter... if you go back and read him during the 60s. That Peter was kind of a little shit at first. The kind of guy that, if given the chance, WOULD do the shit Andrew did before his fight with the Lizard. Peter wasn’t an innately good kid. He had to learn that. But most people aren’t exposed to that Peter. Despite everyone thinking of Peter as a high school superhero... in the main comics he hasn’t been in high school since 1965. He’s been an adult since practically the beginning. So I don’t think Andrew’s interpretation of Peter is inherently wrong, it’s just based off a version nobody is used to. That being the early 60s version of Peter, before he got all his friends and modern backstory characters like Harry. There’s nothing wrong with having those things, they can work masterfully. It’s just not what Andrew was going for. Which is part of what threw audiences off of him I think. Most modern interpretations of Peter HAD friends he grew up with. People like Harry or MJ or Ned or whoever. The 60s Peter and Andrew’s Peter weren’t just nerds. They were also kinda loners. Most modern interpretations of Peter are loners because they become spider-man. Andrew and 60s are loners long before that.
I don’t think that’s peoples issues with those movies tbh. Andrew has always been fine. But the writing him and everyone has to work with, the poorly done villains and the awful improv they gave him and Emma Stone do in the second one is what tanks his series. None of which is really directly his fault.
@@blurryperson2685 there are a lot of people who have an issue with Andrew. I don’t think those movies are flawless, not even close. They’re messy as hell for the reasons you pointed out. But there are quite a lot who have an issue with Andrew’s portrayal.
I do wish more people realised this; say what you want about the movies themselves, but Andrews' portrayal was never a problem if you know the source material.
IMO Andrew is the best interpretation of Spider-Man and the worst Peter Parker. He is the only one that pull out jokes constantly while fighting, the Spider-Man schtick, mocking criminal cuss he is really overpowered most of the time (spiderman is stronger than most marvel heroes yet he fights crooks most of the time) and having a power trip mixed with a coping mechanism because of his nerdiness and isolation. The peter parker is... Kind of all over the place, he is really good in social interactions with Gwen, but awkward in other situations, is a mess.
it's refreshing to hear a positive review of TASM 2 for a change. it does a lot of things VERY well, even if it's quite clunky in places. I also think Electro gets an unfair rep. People have a very reductive view of his motivations. The movie makes it ABUNDANTLY clear that Max is not of sound mind due to a lifetime of neglect and put downs by the people around him, and naturally he gets unhealthily attached to the first people to show him any sort of kindness (spider-man and gwen stacey). He develops a particularly creepy parasocial relationship with Spidey. If the internet has shown me anything, it's that people like this ABSOLUTELY EXIST. He's honestly the most realistic spider-man villain in a way lmao
Eh, Id chalk up the most realistic spider man villian to micheal keaton's vulture. Given the context of the MCU, he's by far the most grounded, not to mention the fact that has no powers at all, just a man wanting to provide for his family by any means necessary.
the execution of electro's motivations is horrible for me, then the different movies happening in this single movie just took me out of it, it was like spiderman 3 where it was a mess with the villains and their execution on film.
TASM 2's only problem were the ones caused by Studio Meddling which was the Reason for Spider-Man 3's bad parts. Both had Good parts that they did really well but were bogged down by the shit parts.
I agree with a lot of what you said. The reason I really don't like Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the bloodline thing too. The reason we love Peter is because he's an ordinary guy who gets powers through sheer luck. Him being "chosen" flies in the face of that in a bad way.
@@CinematicGalaxy eh not really. Like doctor strange said, the multiverse is INFINITE. plus the wish about peter parker being spider man makes sense for the film
Nahhh man you clearly don't understand TASM "bloodline" plot, when his dad made the serum thingy to only work in his bloodline was too damn brilliant, there's no way his father knows that Peter is going to go inside oscorp to get bitten by the spider which has his dad's blood compatibility, it was sheer luck, his father's intention making the serum to only work in his blood was so that no one else can use it because it might be used for bad things, he didn't intentionally make the spider serum just for his son.
While I have my preferences, I honestly think that every version of Spider-Man is pretty great. The way I see it, every version has its fans for a reason.
That moment when Andrew Garfield Spiderman says “Sorry Lola”, and says “No problem/Moh haat hay” in Cantonese after saving a old man and his granddaughter was amazing 👍

I blame Tall-Shoe Fanfilms for promoting that narrative of “no consequences” just because this Spidey doesn’t deal with the exact same problems Tobey did, doesn’t look like Tobey, or is in a film directed by his Raimi-God
The goal was to get Cap and Bucky alive. Iron Man and his side are all deadly offensive fighters so having one teammate that can safely restrain them is a practical choice. He also has strength scaled to that of a spider which makes him physically strong enough to take any hits. Now, kinda cunningly, bringing a young man who idolizes Cap enough to even be a superhero might be a way to persuade Cap to go without incident. Tony didn't expect Cap to see his spider and raise him an ant... an ironically bigger fanboy.
@@xandertrejo i think Tony knew that he needed another guy to beat and restrain Cap &co. Tony knew that he was at a disadvantage or that he needed backup and Spidy was needed to help or even out the playing field. its that simple because the first spidy movies showed that Tony actually believes at first that Spidy even though a kid is reliable as a hero and that he can carry his own weight.
You can fanboysplain it all you want...it's still just sloppy writing. There is no "it's practical" here. He still recruits a child into a potentially deadly fight.
The line "When you can do the things I do, but then you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you" nods to the fact that Tony signed the Sokovia Accords and Steve said "What if there's somewhere we NEED to go, and they won't let us?" Tony realizes through Peter that he did the wrong thing, but it wasn't until later in the movie that he completely changes his mind. If it weren't for that line Peter said, Tony Stark wouldn't have even considered Steve's side of the story at all. He would have continued being the Sokovia Accords Policeman and then the rest of the Avengers wouldn't have been together to fight in Infinity war. Peter Parker gave the world more time to live, is what he did with a few words
Tom doesn't deserve the hate. He's perfect even if he's young and depends on stark's suit. The humour and the emotions he shows are very real. I like him even if tobey or Andrew are very good at being Peter and spider-man. Society these days confuse me.
There are fans who genuinely appreciate all three iterations, and there are nutjobs who try to pick fights anywhere and everywhere. Tobey's films were released when I was just born, Andrew's films came during my teen days, Tom's films right after these. I find Tom's Spidey to be the most balanced one, and when nutjobs called him Iron Boy Jr., it has always pissed me off. I'm glad that more people appreciate Tom's Spidey than ever before.

@@gazaalley3862 I'm not denying the theme was good, but the execution is more important. If this was just about Peter and Flint this would of been worthy sequel to the 2nd movie but it feels like peter is being pulled in 50 different directions and with really bad writing at point like Mary Jane's character who sucks in the other movies but here her character is offensively bad. Spider-Man 2 just left Peter in a perfect spot and after all he went through in that film it becomes hard to believe he would arrogant, but I do believe he would be angry but if you were going to bring in the black suit the only way to do that is to retell the same story as Spider-Man 2 but without him losing his powers which just makes the movie a mess. It had a concept but no real direction is mainly Sony's fault for pushing the writers to sell toys. Still this movie has one of the best endings out of all the movies when Sandman forgives Peter.
This was…unexpected. But, super fun and nice to hear your thoughts and insight about Spider-Man too. As a huge fan of Spider man myself, I always love hearing everyone’s take, and especially after hearing all you’ve had to say about our favorite horse (and other amazing shows), it’s super cool and kinda enlightening to hear your thoughts on spider man as well, really ties some things together and puts it into perspective, and how different concepts and ideas and analyses can be applied to different characters, kinda like how most of us, as fans of yours and many other analytical channels, already do apply different stuff we’ve learned from each of y’all to different characters. Idk. This is just really cool Johnny. Haven’t even watched yet but know it’ll be awesome. Thanks for making another great video :) you’re awesome. And merry Christmas
My response about your Spiderman 3 complaint about the kiss and how Peter was acting after SM2 is first, it’s been a few years since the second movie so he’s gotten a bit cocky and emotionally lazy in the relationship like people tend to do. Also he clearly indicates that he thinks of Spiderman as a character he plays (example: when he tries to compare mj’s bad reviews with how Spiderman get treated in the press). So with all that, it’s believable that Peter would think it’s okay to kiss Gwen, with the crowd egging him on when he’s playing his character, like he’d be okay with her kissing someone on stage every night while acting.
There’s a reason why there’s three different renditions of spider and and sooo many cartoon renditions of him, it’s because he truly is the best superhero and most complex character the Marvel franchise has ever comprised. Truly, because Peter Parker isn’t a super hero, he’s just a good person with greater power he uses to help others. And I know that’s the textbook definition of a superhero, lol, but he gets no glory or fame from it, no money, because no one knows who he is. He doesn’t profit off of helping people, he just does, and sacrifices his own health and happiness to do so. That’s a true hero, someone that doesn’t see themselves as a hero, and Peter never truly has, because if he did, he would expect things out of the people he saves, but he doesn’t. I love Spider-Man, and I think he’s the most appreciated marvel character now for a reason. I find it funny that even in the real world spider man was the problem child of the comics and movies for so long, just fitting the aesthetic of Peter Parker lmao.
I'm not the biggest fan of the Dane Dehaan Green Goblin design, but I actually really like his version of the character. Underneath his cold exterior he's clearly just a scared kid who's driven to villainy out of desperation. While I agree they had to awkwardly shove Peter and Harry bonding into the runtime because they didn't set it up in the first one, they do a pretty good job making us buy the friendship between the two in the time that they had. And they do a much better job balancing the different storylines after that happens. On to Harry himself, he's a sympathetic character almost the entire film. His motivation is literally not wanting to die. While he does make some bad decisions, he doesn't really do anything unforgivable until AFTER he turns himself into the Goblin. Before that, he proves he has a decent set of morals when he discovers what Oscorp has done to Max and is horrified. Immediately after he's framed for the cover up, which is a major turning point. It's the beginning of the tragedy, because if this hadn't happened, there's no telling how his story might've played out. He probably would've gone after the real bad guys, mainly those Oscorp employees that framed him, and never have become a villain at all. Who knows? If that scene had played out differently, maybe he would've become a hero in his own right. But that's not what happens. He injects himself with a substance meant to save his life, but instead winds up turning himself into the very thing Peter feared he'd become. Whether or not it could've been prevented, it was Peter's refusal to help for fear it'd turn Harry into a monster that led to that exact outcome. One could debate whether Peter was in the right or not, but I don't want to get into that. Harry inadvertently turns himself into a monster that kills an innocent teenage girl with her whole life in front of her just to get back at Spider-Man. Where does his story go after that? We don't know because TASM 3 was never made! Does he switch back and forth between personalities like Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin? Does he ever go after those evil people inside Oscorp? Does he ever get a better looking Green Goblin design? So many questions left to theorists and fanfiction writers to answer.
Finally someone says it. I absolutely love all three and they all three actors do amazing. I can’t choose a favorite spiderman because they are all great.
I feel that the reason tony was ok with bringing peter to germany is because he knows 1: Cap and his team wouldn't try to kill anyone 2: Peter is stronger than all of them
lmfao i know right? if peter was just a little more battle seasoned (like post-homecoming peter) and it was a fight to the death, definitely believe peter would come out on top
Tony Stark enlisted Spider-Man because he already saw him running around doing superhero stuff and he would be far safer on the avengers than solo which is why he gives some new suits all the time. He's also enlisting Spider-Man on his side which is for superheroes to be held accountable which fits the theme of great power comes great responsibility
I absolutely love this take on the three live-action Spidermen. Most people just like one of them and then try to say that the other versions are terrible.
I love all 3. I personally don't see why people keep trying to say there is a "best" spider-man. Like, they're all the best for what the directors were going for. In order to say one is better than the other, the directors would have to actually be trying to do the same thing. And then I hear "andrew is best because he's comic accurate" and I'm like that doesn't make him best because who's to say the directors for every one were trying to go for comic accurate?
@@xmant8842 I think the reason people compare them so much is mainly due to how passionate they are about the character in general and while I get that to an extent, I think judging a movies qaulity based on a previous movies high points really isn't fair, Rami did what he did great, Webb (while held back by Sony's interference) still did a decent job, and of course Jon Watts has been really making a name for himself with his films. The thing I want to point out though is just cause one way worked really well, doesn't mean it has to be done THAT WAY every time I think hardcore fans of the Rami trilogy kinda miss that sometimes. The whole point of different writers and directors is to distinguish new films from the previous ones.
I'd really love an Amazing Spider-Man 3 after No Way Home. It REALLY gave the character a lot more depth and an interesting road to walk. I'd really love to see his path to him being able to forgive himself for what happened to Gwen. If they, somehow, managed to work him into the Venom Verse stuff they're trying to do that would be perfect.
I’m happy to see you give AG his flowers for these movies. I always thought the casting was flawless for these movies. The other thing is, “we” grew up with tobey and if you were too young for that you probably went for the TH MCU movies. Hard to find the generation who fell in love with the AG movies, especially since they were preceded and followed by other movies shortly before and after
I was a teenager when the TASM movies came out, even though I grew up with the Raimi trilogy, so I guess I'm a part of both generations, but I fell in love with AGs' movies more than Raimi because I just feel like they adapted the characters better.
I'm someone for whom Andrew is MY Spider-Man. I love all Spider-Man movies to some degree because he's my favorite superhero, and as a black person miles morales is especially cool to me. But when I saw ASM in theatres on my 12th birthday it was the best day ever. And I do truly love that movie. I was really happy to feel like I could claim that interpretation as my own since I didn't grow up on Tobey.
I was in high school when tasm 1 and 2 came out so just like what the previous comment here said, i also had the raimi films being shown throughout my childhood but the duology with andrew’s spidey is what really stuck to me as a teen
I agree that in ffh tony giving Peter such a powerful bit of tech to a 16 year old was nuts but totally seems like the kind of thing Tony would do. It’s risky and most would see it as dumb but Tony sees so much potential in Pete. He literally made him an avenger because he trusts that even if the kid can be a good bit reckless he trusts that he will take the responsibility necessary to fix and grow from any of the potential problems. Tony has always been one to take risks like this. Hd believed it was more important that someone who understands responsibility and has the heart to use the glasses properly gets them than just anyone, especially someone who he knew was going to take up his mantle. I also think that Tony wasn’t expecting to die that early, he probably left Peter the glasses thinking he was going to die years down the line especially if he made his will before infinity war
Honestly, I kind of disagree with that part of the film being a fundamental flaw, and the reason why is because this dumb, crazy decision fits within Tony Stark’s character. This isn’t Steve Rogers, James Rhodes, or any other adult who uses their brain 100% of the time, giving Peter these glasses. This is Tony Stark, and he thinks with his heart and not his brain a lot in the MCU. He has made dumb decisions like jokingly trying to unleash the Hulk on the Helicarrier in The Avengers, giving his home address to the Mandarin on national television in Iron Man 3, and creating Ultron in Avengers Age of Ultron. So this concept in Far From Home weirdly makes sense, and it also makes sense when you connect this movie with Avengers Endgame. In Endgame, Tony decides to study Quantum Realm time traveling and help bring back the blipped population because of Peter in a scene where he looks at a picture of both of them together. Tony’s love for Peter in Endgame triggered the EDITH subplot in Far From Home, which fits with what you said about Tony seeing tons of potential in Peter.
I really appreciate that for once someone is talking about the positives of TASM movies. They are far from perfect and definitely have some awful short comings (the genetics thing sucks ass) but I absolutely have a soft spot for them since I also grew up with those films as a young teen. Since Andrew is getting a lot of recognition rn, I really hope we can get a third amazing spider man film so Andrew can get the clouse ge deserves. Just needs a better writer and script.
I really think Andrew will get another shot. Not sure if that means TASM3 or that they'll combine him with the Venom movies, but I would really like to see more of him
Cuz he doesn't struggle for what he wants, everything is given to him or available in hand to solve his problems, plus him being a part of a bigger universe of heroes, he doesn't stick out much and feels like a gimmick more than anything else, plus his age doesn't allow him to take on many adult challenges that spiderman would face daily This is why people hate him
Just starting this video, but I have to say that I'm happy to see the "He stole that guy's pizza!" line get so much love and recognition recently after being overshadowed by "Pizza time!" for so many years.
To comment on Spideys inclusion in Civil War, he mainly took him to combat/disarm captain America and if it wasn't for two unknown wild cards(Hawkeye and Ant man) then he would of succeeded. And even when the fight began it was still a fight with a bunch of super heroes that mainly had no intentions of killing each other and when things started to look bad Tony told Peter to fall back and he did.
NWH is an homage to all three and imo it is saying this exact same thing with the SPOILERS Web scene were Toby said that Andrew isn’t lame and how Andrew literally improvised the I live you guys scene and I love how much all 3 of them are passionate to this character that so many could relate too
Andrew Garfield was always great as Spiderman. Finally, people are starting to see that. Despite the problems with his movies (and all 3 series have their own unique problems), he carried them like a champ.
Thanks for spreading the positivity. I love The Amazing Spiderman films and Andrew Garfield is my favorite so its great to hear you spread the positivity
I don’t 100% agree with everything here (I adore Spider-Man 3 despite its fuckups and I will die on that hill), but I respect the attempt to build bridges between the annoying ass fans on all fronts. Whatever the faults they may or may not have, we not need to fight THIS much over it.
No Way Home has brought my love for all the Spider-Man’s to all about equal. Like legitimately, I love all 3 so it’s awesome that we got them together finally.
Finally someone said it! Spiderverse is absolutely my favorite, but after that I have always love all the spiderman interpretations with difficulty picking favorites. They all have something new to offer and I love that. I remember when Andrew Garfields spiderman came out and everyone hated. I was so confused because I had enjoyed it so much. Going so far as to watch it multiple times over the week after it had come out of theaters so I could pirate it online.
While i disagree about the "negative" aspects of the films, I fully agree that all live-action iterations of the character are great and worthy of love
Andrew Garfield's movies had so much potential. It was like the perfect place to bring a young Anthony Stark, like someone who's Peter's age, and have him be Iron Man, like in the Armored Adventures cartoon.
"Every spiderman is good actually". You're right and you should say it. Spiderman has been my favorite since I was old enough to formulate an opinion. The first Rami movie blew my mind. My dad got a rip of it while it was still in theaters so my first impression of it was some dude's shitty camcorder recording of the movie screen but I still LOVED it.
I love this video. So well done and extremely well edited. But Midtown being a science based high school was also a thing in ASM Films and Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. I think each Spider-Man holds a special place in my own heart
The reason stark let's holland become an avenger is because of the same reason he becomes iron man. He created the tech, he has the capacity to stop the tech, and the speech about having responsibility due to ability resonated with him on that level.
Something that I love about TASM 2 is that the movie displays the love and care he has for Gwen. He knows that the closer he gets to her, the more he jeopardizes her. I don't know if you noticed this, but Peter sees Captain Stacy every time he interacts with Gwen. This reminds him of the promise in the first film he made to Captain Stacy. To keep Gwen out of it. This makes him paranoid and unsure if his love is worth risking her life. And all of this going in the hands of a teenager. Spider-man truly is my favorite hero
Johnny, you definitely hit the nail in regards to MCU Spider-Man. I never had a problem with him getting his suits from Iron-Man or making his own from Stark Tech as long as he made them. He was never Iron-Man Jr. as he was just a kid trying to get by, juggling the responsibility of being a hero and having a life. Aside from the suits, he and Aunt May weren't living in luxury. Really, my problems with him are having his villains being tied to Stark. I was fine with it for the Vulture one time, but having Mysterio again be another former Stark employee was annoying. So yeah, All three Spider-Man are fantastic and valid. I really want to hear your thoughts on No Way Home. Also, I finally subscribed to you today.
Spidey Fun Fact: “With great power comes great responsibility,” the most famous Spider-Man phrase was first used by Peter in “Spider-Man Versus Wolverine #1” comic book back in 1987.
The first Spider-Man comic does have that quote above the last panel. It's just Stan Lee narrating, kind of. I didn't know it took Peter like 40 years to finally say it. That's interesting!
If I could add my take on the amazing Spider-Man 2 I absolutely love these things about the film 1. The score by Hanz Zimmer 2. The brand new suit 3 the Peter/Gwen relationship. 4. Great action sequence that feel lifted straight from the comics 5. incredible cinematography Everything else..... yeah not the best, still enjoyable though.
One thing that the Amazing Spiderman trilogy got right was the swinging, its the whole reason I like the films and the ps4 game, because the swinging was like a direct copy to the movies. One of the only things TASM did right is sadly not there in the MCU Spidey films yet, and I hope with future movies, I hope to see more of that. Edit: finally watched the film, somebody gets the reputation they so thoroughly deserve.
It makes me so happy to hear someone else praise amazing spiderman two the same ways I always have. Yes it wasnt the best but it has some super wonderful emotional qualities to it that I've always loved
I loved this video - complete and total agreement that Tony Stark is written into some of these films in a way that seems to fly in the face of his belief in accountability - and would love to hear your thoughts on No Way Home, which is the epitome of “every Spider-Man is valid.”
I think after No Way Home they’ll have him go solo on his missions since he didn’t remind the ppl who knew him first, like MJ and Ned, and maybe they’ll introduce Harry and Gwen which will satisfy the “OG Spider-Man” fans that have been whining this whole time
Did you play the Spider-Man video game? It's one of the few games I took the time to complete 100% because it was so fun and actually made me feel like Spider-Man. I enjoyed all the movies except for Spider-Man 3. It's the most disappointed I've ever been in a cinema haha
I would recommend checking out some of the deleted scenes for the first Amazing Spider-Man movie. It isn't perfect, but there are a few good scenes that help develop Lizard's character more which weren't included in the official cut unfortunately, thanks to studio interference.
I'm actually not extremely big on the whole superhero scene, and I can't particularly call myself a Marvel fan tbh. But even so, I fucking love Spider-Man and most stuff that has to do with this character. And that must speak volumes.
One detail I love about Gwen's death in TASM 2 is that when she dies the clock stops at 1:21, which is another reference to Gwen's death in the comics (Amazing Spider-Man, Vol.1 121, "The Night Gwen Stacy Died")
Just watched this in full and I'm really happy to hear your take! I've always been at least a partial fan of each of the three series as well, and while I have a hard time articulating my reasoning it's really nice to hear your perspective on it. You actually pointed out quite a few things I hadn't even considered, despite having seen each movie a minimum of twice (yes, even Spiderman 3). In particular, I've been pretty dismissive of the faults existing in the MCU's version of the character, especially with Tony Stark's choices surrounding him, so you've given me a lot to think about if/when I go back through and rewatch these!
(NWH SPOILERS) gwen's death makes me even more emotional after watching nwh, and seeing how much it broke andrew. he obviously thought about it so much that when mj fell he knew exactly what to do to not repeat history. andrew's acting was incredible when he looks down at mj in his arms and cries, I was bawling in the theatre. that redemption is probably my favorite part pf nwh
I can't wait to see Johnny's video about No Way Home, because I think it was actually perfect as a Spider-Man movie, and there was nothing else I could have wished for.
I love all 3 of these guys, sure they're are problems, but they all capture a key part of the character that I love. Tobey had the awkward charm, Andrew has the cool factor, and Tom has the best of both.
I thought I was gonna be butt hurt when you talked about Spider-Man 3 since it’s my favorite of the trilogy but then I ended up agreeing with you for the most part ESPECIALLY with what you said about Venom. Still my favorite of the trilogy tho

“Every Spider-Man is Good Actually”
Probably the best hot take I’ve seen.
It's not really a hot take though.
The original question was: "Which Spider-Man is best?", not "Do all Spider-Men have something good?"
@@LegalizeTaxI dunno. I've seen the Twitter debates. I don't think people are being that rational and focused
@@Pokemonleafmon The original question *as posed by the video* in 0:39
He only answers it at the very end (sort of?) by saying *Into the Spider-Verse* was the best movie, but there are like 7 Spider-Men in that movie so still unanswered.
There are definitely some hot takes in the comments

That's what happens when Garfield's Spidey actually has competent writers
@@tenji1320 the fact that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were dating at the time helped the chemistry be so natural

@@parry111 they are. All the villains look like shit.
After No Way Home, there is a reason to love them all.
Yeah, if the three Spider-Man can learn to love each other, why not their respective fans

Something that I think is often overlooked is Electro/Max's story in Amazing Spider-Man 2. I never felt more sorry for a villian in any superhero movie than I did with him. The way he gets treated and all of the misunderstandings that lead to him become a villain break my heart every time.

Good point on "Iron Man Jr." People forget that when Spider-Man first got into heroing, he tried to join the Fantastic Four.
Didn't he try to join the x-men too? But they wouldn't accept him since he wasn't a mutant

Andrew Garfields 2nd Spider-Man Film is my favorite Spider-Man film
@@MomQuestionMark villainous to be villainous, what about Fisk ?

It seems each one got vindicated in NWH. The first two got proper send-offs after the disasters of Spider-Man 3 and the Amazing Spider-Man 2. Maguire’s seriousness and natural webbing (which so many fans criticized) is celebrated. Garfield’s underrated performance is celebrated. Holland’s youth is celebrated, and him giving up so much makes him actually feel like Peter Parker. NWH made me appreciate all three of them for their own unique and unforgettable contributions to this storyline. (Also, I can watch them all as one story now-which is a plus.)

SPOILERS FOR NO WAY HOME:
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 felt like it was missing a proper resolution for Electro, and I remember really wanting to see Peter talk to Max and tell him that he’s not insignificant or worthless. So glad we got that missing piece in No Way Home, I think I was the only one who kinda freaked out that I got that wish granted, since nobody else seemed to be clamoring for anything like that.
I felt the same way about max, I always felt sad watching him and seeing him get a resolution and learn that he isn’t insignificant felt so good

@@matti.8465 Definitely, and I agree with your take completely haha. Tony can be, a lot of things, Definitely, and I agree with your take completely haha. Tony can be, a lot of things. A sound decision maker it's just, not one of them sometimes 😬.
@@matti.8465 That's true since even Happy told Peter that "Tony always second-guessing his decisions"
I didn’t grow up with Tobey’s films either but he’s my favourite. We’re the opposite aha!
Ngl Andrew's movies got me into comics it doesn't help that they gave out TASM issue #10 at my theater
The first film is honestly fantastic imo. I feel like its the writing in the second film that ruined the TASM1s reputation.
@@lm_slayer1 ohhh then i guess sand man as well.
the execution of electro's motivations is horrible for me, then the different movies happening in this single movie just took me out of it, it was like spiderman 3 where it was a mess with the villains and their execution on film.
@@JrKdM well yes, but like I mentioned in my previous comment, vulture doesn't have powers, meanwhile sandman is borderline overpowered lmao
Tbh, after No Way Home, I feel like it's heavily implying that Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man is a destined thing in general.
@@CinematicGalaxy eh not really. Like doctor strange said, the multiverse is INFINITE. plus the wish about peter parker being spider man makes sense for the film
in the same way there are multiple universes where peter is spider-man, you yourself and me are spiderman in others
This hot take is good, actually

THANK YOU I’m tired of hearing the argument that “Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has no consequences” when there are very clear examples of the contrary
People who say that just never watched the movies. I refuse to think otherwise.
@@bobono Even in Homecoming there were consequences. He basically ruined (unintentionally) Liz and her family's life. And he lost a potential romance with her.
@@bobono like what?
When he went after the vulture on the Ferry? That lost him his Spider-Man suit and essentially stripped him of what he thought* was what let him be Spider-Man.
When he chose to go after the villain instead of the decathlon meet? Not only did it further ostracize him from his friends and the girl he was trying to date, but it almost outed him as Spider-Man to his friends and staked his “internship” once more
Or maybe when he decided to go after Vulture even after losing his suit? Which not only almost killed him with a full building falling in him, but almost crashed a plane into fucking New York! Not to mention it ruined his relationship with Liv
@@michael_am right lol. So many consequences yet they still deny he ever had em smh
Another practical idea can be just using Peter's web shooter technology on a Ironman suit and leaving the literal child at home.
@@xandertrejo Right but that's Tony's hypocritical libertarianism, which created IronMan in the first place.
raise him an ant lol, clever
@@xandertrejo i think Tony knew that he needed another guy to beat and restrain Cap &co. Tony knew that he was at a disadvantage or that he needed backup and Spidy was needed to help or even out the playing field. its that simple because the first spidy movies showed that Tony actually believes at first that Spidy even though a kid is reliable as a hero and that he can carry his own weight.
You can fanboysplain it all you want...it's still just sloppy writing.
There is no "it's practical" here. He still recruits a child into a potentially deadly fight.
The line "When you can do the things I do, but then you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you" nods to the fact that Tony signed the Sokovia Accords and Steve said "What if there's somewhere we NEED to go, and they won't let us?"
Tony realizes through Peter that he did the wrong thing, but it wasn't until later in the movie that he completely changes his mind.
Alright I might actually buy this
Tom doesn't deserve the hate.

Johnny you’re the first person to finally say how I’ve been feeling about Peter in Spider-Man 3 for YEARS! I can understand enjoying the film for what it is but Peter feels like an entirely different person and I can’t look past that!
Wasn't that the purpose? He was going through an existential crisis.
@@ms.bubs4fun506 I do think Peter’s existential crisis is the point, the way he behaves before being possessed by the symbiote just isn’t the same person from the end of Spider-Man 2

@@stillvillian wasn't that he point though he got over confident after being able to balance being spiderman and having the girl, Spiderman 3 was more about his arrogance and anger and how he deals with it.....it's a natural progressive of the character
After that being pointed out I think MJ looks more like a bit**.
Sums up a lot of my feelings really well; Deehan’s Goblin is one of my favorite Spidey movie villains
Finally someone says it. I absolutely love all three and they all three actors do amazing. I can’t choose a favorite spiderman because they are all great.
"A movie about Spider-Man shouldn't break you."
Shots fired at HiTop. Nice.
No way home made me realize just how perfect Andrew Garfield is as Spider-Man
I feel that the reason tony was ok with bringing peter to germany is because he knows
1: Cap and his team wouldn't try to kill anyone
2: Peter is stronger than all of them
Eh
agree but idk think hes stronger than all of them at that point in time
lmfao i know right? if peter was just a little more battle seasoned (like post-homecoming peter) and it was a fight to the death, definitely believe peter would come out on top
1. Tony saw Peter's potential to be something greater than any one of them.
What about Wanda? If he saw the potential of all of them, why not Wanda? Maybe at the time, Spidey was stronger?
Tony Stark enlisted Spider-Man because he already saw him running around doing superhero stuff and he would be far safer on the avengers than solo which is why he gives some new suits all the time. He's also enlisting Spider-Man on his side which is for superheroes to be held accountable which fits the theme of great power comes great responsibility
As someone who's favorite super hero is also Spider-Man, this was a video I didn't know I needed. Great content as always Johnny!
One thing I absolutely respect about the first two adaptations, as an editor, is the huge use of practical effects which looks great.
Andrew's spider man is my favorite. I LOVE the first one, the second one not so much, but I still like it. Really wish they could of made a third one
I grew up with raimi's trilogy and still enjoyed TASM

I HAVEN'T EVEN BEGAN WATCHING, STILL IN THE AD RIGHT NOW, AND YOUR TITLE IS AMAZING!
It took him that long to say it? Dang that's 25 years after the line was first said at end of Amazing Fantasy #15, Spidey's first appearance.
The first Spider-Man comic does have that quote above the last panel. It's just Stan Lee narrating, kind of. I didn't know it took Peter like 40 years to finally say it. That's interesting!
If I could add my take on the amazing Spider-Man 2 I absolutely love these things about the film
1. The score by Hanz Zimmer
2. The brand new suit
3 the Peter/Gwen relationship.
4. Great action sequence that feel lifted straight from the comics
5. incredible cinematography
Everything else..... yeah not the best, still enjoyable though.
Great Video!!
Thanks!
I loved this video - complete and total agreement that Tony Stark is written into some of these films in a way that seems to fly in the face of his belief in accountability - and would love to hear your thoughts on No Way Home, which is the epitome of “every Spider-Man is valid.”
"Some people say Andrew Garfield is too cool to be Spider-Man...." It's me. I'm people.
Hi people I’m dad.
I’m also in agreement. Casting y’all, where was it?
Cringe
I also love they way they end the Tom H films with the very surprising out of the blue event and the person about to swear 😆
I absolutely ADORE that game, and it's the only game I've 100%'d in at least 10 years. That and the Miles Morales spin off haha.
"A Spider-Man movie shouldn't break you" I see you, Johnny lol
I would recommend checking out some of the deleted scenes for the first Amazing Spider-Man movie.
It isn't perfect, but there are a few good scenes that help develop Lizard's character more which weren't included in the official cut unfortunately, thanks to studio interference.
“Studio interference” is basically the middle name of the Amazing movies lol
In particular, I've been pretty dismissive of the faults existing in the MCU's version of the character, especially with Tony Stark's choices surrounding him, so you've given me a lot to think about if/when I go back through and rewatch these!
green goblin in the amazing spider-man just honestly feels like what would happen if Harry got the symbiote from the raimi trilogy instead of Peter
I'm glad you made this video cause I'm so tired of people crapping on the new spiderman becasue Tony was his mentor.
That's the best criticism I have ever heard about spider-man 3, I really love that movie but you really tackled the real issues with it
I can't wait to see Johnny's video about No Way Home, because I think it was actually perfect as a Spider-Man movie, and there was nothing else I could have wished for.
I love all 3 of these guys, sure they're are problems, but they all capture a key part of the character that I love. Tobey had the awkward charm, Andrew has the cool factor, and Tom has the best of both.
TASM2 was the reason we have Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4. If you noticed in the game, MJ acts like Gwen where she helps Peter in anyway she can.
I thought I was gonna be butt hurt when you talked about Spider-Man 3 since it’s my favorite of the trilogy but then I ended up agreeing with you for the most part ESPECIALLY with what you said about Venom. Still my favorite of the trilogy tho
