    Repeaters and GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) are both related to two-way radio communication, but they serve different purposes.
    Repeaters:
    Repeaters are devices used in radio communication systems to extend the range and coverage of handheld or mobile radios.
    They receive radio signals on one frequency and retransmit them on another frequency. This process significantly boosts the range of communication.
    Repeaters are commonly used by various services, including amateur radio (ham radio), public safety, and commercial radio systems.
    They are usually installed in elevated locations like tall buildings or towers to maximize coverage.
    GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service):
    GMRS is a licensed radio service in the United States that allows for short-distance, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint communication.
    It operates in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) band and is primarily used for personal or business communication.
    GMRS radios can have more power and longer range than Family Radio Service (FRS) radios, which are a similar but unlicensed service. However, a GMRS license is required to operate on GMRS channels.
    GMRS radios can be handheld or mounted in vehicles, and they are used for activities such as outdoor recreation, events, and small-scale business operations.
    In summary, repeaters are devices that extend the range of radio communication by retransmitting signals, while GMRS is a licensed radio service that provides short-range, two-way communication using designated frequencies. GMRS radios can benefit from repeaters to further increase their coverage area if needed.
    A General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) repeater is a radio communication device used to extend the range and coverage of GMRS radios. GMRS is a licensed radio service in the United States that allows for two-way communication over relatively short distances, typically up to several miles. GMRS repeaters play a crucial role in improving the effectiveness of GMRS communications, especially in areas with challenging terrain or when trying to cover longer distances.
    Here's a description of a GMRS repeater and how it works:
    Purpose: GMRS repeaters are used to extend the range of GMRS radios by receiving signals from one radio and retransmitting them at higher power, effectively increasing the range and coverage area of the radios. They are commonly employed in situations where direct radio-to-radio communication is not sufficient.
    Components:
    Receiver: The repeater has a receiver that is tuned to a specific GMRS frequency. It listens for incoming signals from GMRS radios within its range.
    Transmitter: The repeater also has a transmitter that retransmits the received signals on the same frequency but at higher power, allowing the signal to cover a larger area.
    Controller: A controller manages the operation of the repeater, including functions like identifying and squelching interference, coordinating access, and providing a timer to prevent continuous transmission.
    Antennas: Typically, GMRS repeaters have high-quality antennas to optimize both reception and transmission.
    Coverage: The range and coverage area of a GMRS repeater depend on various factors, including the repeater's location, the antenna height, terrain, and the transmitter's power. In ideal conditions, GMRS repeaters can cover a substantial area, making them valuable for public safety, emergency services, and businesses that need reliable long-range communication.
    Licensing: Operating a GMRS repeater requires obtaining a GMRS license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States. The license allows you to use specific frequencies and power levels for your repeater.

      I may do a longer format video when I program these new H8's from TIDradio and test them. It comes with a PICTURED instruction manual, you can also search your area for your local repeaters, then write them to your radio. label them, like channel 1,2,3 whatever and the settings, using the computer is easier to see that part. It seamlessly communicates between your phone, radio and computer, the site, phone and radio all update at the same time. I didn't know if it would work until Now, and WOW, freaking awesome. I was like thats it? YEP, programed, if you have any issues they have a number you can call also

    I have several questions:
    1) its only for programming the frequency and codes in instead of doing it manually with the radio keypad right ?
    2) you put a big emphasis on using gmrs repeaters but does this thing also work for any other bands? Does it work just as well with any vhf-uhf repeater ?
    3) that list of repeaters that appears on the app is a active live list of what the device can detect is active and transmitting or is it just a not so up to date list pulled from repeaterbook or other already public database ?

      Ive connected to both a HAM and GMRS repeater. MyGMRS is a really good website, so is checking your elevation
      out also. For instance our repeaters out here are 6000-7500 feet up contacting them is cake as everything is line of sight for them. I like doing it manually; if you have a GMRS radio all you need is plug in the TX CTCSS code in most cases and then your good to go. I like GMRS....I se myself maybe getting into HAM but only to be of more use to my club which we have both GMRS and HAM users

    • @BaaSicStuff
      @BaaSicStuff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      no, a repeater is a tower that you contact, being a tower high in the air, you have line of sight for miles. So all you need is a GMRS capable radio...that takes care of most of what you need to know. FInd the Freq, example 462.675 which is REP channel 20 and the TX tone example 146.2 and in some case there will be an RX code example (most cases none) put those numbers in and you're all set. Takes 5 min to do and you can talk in most cases to 80% of the area and around 150 square miles. I can reach all my friends and family and they live a good hour away

    About half the Baofeng radios sold come wit a computer programming and software. Or one can download the CHIRP software for free. Most Ham Radio operators have no problem programming their radio for local repeaters.

    • @BaaSicStuff
      @BaaSicStuff  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes mine did also and it failed to work, chirp sucks, as it does in most cases. Additionally, it doesn’t find local repeaters and makes a process that should only take five minutes take hours when it does, the reason people want GMRS capable radios is to stay well clear of HAM operators, matter fact HAMS can’t even hear GMRS or talk to us unless licensed. The Blue tooth also requires no internet connection and enable you to run your radio with your phone. Total upgrade, I can also for instance, go to my phone type in death Valley and look up local repeaters for that area place them on a channel of my choice, label it and have it ready for my next camping trip.

    • @ess2870
      @ess2870 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Chirp 100% CAN find local repeaters, it uses repeaterbook, as well as having presets for all GMRS freqs,NOAA,Emcomm. 3 additional clicks for CTCSS tones and it's programmed.
      Unless you have the newer Part 90 certified radios, it's illegal for you to use them on GMRS bands.
      Hams don't want to hear you and hunny talking anyways. But we can most certainly listen to ALL of your chatter. Airwaves are open, whatever you say, anyone can hear.
      Goodluck shilling your gimmick.

    • @BaaSicStuff
      @BaaSicStuff  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Without going through a repeater all these are, are powerful walkie-talkies. Line of sight, maybe they could pass through a few homes at best. A repeater is a large antenna that requires you to use their frequency and key code, programming by hand is complicated. Tidradio has made this wireless and easy.
      This large antenna relays your communication and broadcast it, allowing another radio to pick it up. I could say that a lot more complicated but that’s like layman terms.

      Outdoor Activities: GMRS repeaters can be useful for outdoor enthusiasts, like hikers and campers, who want to stay connected in areas with limited cell coverage.
      Community Communication: In rural areas or neighborhoods, GMRS repeaters can provide a means for community members to communicate over larger distances.
      Interference: Care must be taken to ensure that repeater operations do not cause interference with other GMRS users or services. This is often managed through coordination with other repeater operators and monitoring for interference on the repeater's input and output frequencies.
      GMRS repeaters enhance the utility of GMRS radios by extending their communication range, making them a valuable tool for various applications. However, due to licensing and regulatory requirements, users must ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations when setting up and operating GMRS repeaters.
