Hi yes totally agree. We in Uk sould ride all year when its dry roads and above 8 degrees ish ACF my bikes and use them all year they dont like standing for long periods of time does them no good love winter rides Pick your days but ride them thats what they are for you all ride safe
Nice video mate! One tip I'd like to add from personal experience is to wear a scarf or something warm around your neck, as when the cold air gets in through the gap it really makes you feel cold. Then you become rigid and stiff which affects breaking time and general riding safety
I used to do 100 mile trips in the winter. Worst I had was arriving home with a sheet of ice covering the front of my jacket from freezing fog. Back then heated grips did not exist so used silk liners, gloves and waxed cotton over-mits. Had to tape some 120 grit wet and dry to the throttle grip to stop it slipping through the over-mits.
Totally agree yep use the bike all time round year and be cautious. My only advice would be clean the bike after the journey once it has cooled down. In this way less change of any water getting into st,motor/ alternator . Do not put bike away wet either.
Add a couple of strips of black tape or vinyl along the bottom of your visor this allows you to tilt your visor to any angle to block the sun even with a internal visor you can still be glared. get a pinlock insert. knox do great hoods or neck warmers. Thermals are great as a base layer but if the temp drops chucks waterproofs over the top of your gear. Otherwise a light summer jacket with a black reflective work jacket over the top will keep people warm and very dry. upgrade headlight bulbs to novsight led. heated gloves while not cheap are far better than heated grips
If you have to go somewhere when its zero or below bear in mind if you use your phone for navigation and its on top of your dash it can suddenly shut down from the cold. found that out on the motorway the hard way
All sound advice , but if people need to be told these things, perhaps they shouldn't be allowed outdoors on their own, let alone on a bike. I'm an all year round biker, too. I don't have to commute because I'm retired, but I do use my GS550 for everyday transport, in preference to a car. In my experience, WD40 is your bike's best friend in the winter. I keep everything coated in it (except for brakes and tyres), and it preserves the bike while allowing you to use it.
Great video.... That is a really good looking jacket. What brand ? Is it armored? I mostly ride HD's, an early generation V65 Magna, and soon getting a Yamaha R6. I don't want to get a jacket for each style of bike... Really liking the looks of the one you're wearing. Also, the leather pant... Thanks ! Shiny side up....
Get an External thermometer/ Weather station for about £15(?), I've had so many people have "incidents" thinking they'll be fine over the years. Look at it before you start!
Remember that the road surface temperature is around 2 ~ 3 degrees centigrade below the air temperature at this time of year so watch out! Enjoy your riding and stay safe👍👍
If you use Google Translate and input the word “winter” under British English it translates to Canadian English as “summer” - okay that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much.
I personally think the bigger issue is the overall miles you do in a Yr, lots of my friends don't sorn through winter, yet still do far less miles than me.
Depends on the winter I suppose. The other day it was -28 in my parts, today is a balmy -11 and tomorrow will be a roasting -8. Snow and ice almost every day since December first.
Yip me too and I know it depends on where you live in the world but I ride all year round, once there's no serious frost or snow I'm out and about at least 300mile on a winters days hard to beat it just brilliant for the mindset too.
Agreed. Be careful, keep the skills sharp.

I went 7 years with no car and commuted by bike in all weather. It's much better to choose when to ride tho lol

great tip. but for me with -15 and snow/ice I'd be better leaving my bike in the garage =P

Yeah I usually look at the weather app on my phone

From Holland; he takes off his helmet and doesn't wear a hoody beneath it. My tip during the winter: wear two hoodies beneath your helmet
Can’t understand those who put their bikes away for winter.
