Man I have been watching TH-cam for years and scrolling tonight. I found you working on my mower and will say I am having those very problems and will use the video to fix those problems. So thank you very much.
I have the same mower as that. Bought it for 30$ 5 years ago. Still works like a dream! Even after winter, always starts at the first crank. It's a beast
Eastern Canada winters are pretty long. Used to do lots of fancy things like draining fogging etc etc. A number of years ago switched to storing equipment with well sealed full tanks indoors. With preservative / stabiliser added. Long winters, easy spring starts.
Great video very to the point Those carbs are great the biggest problem I find the jets are very, very small I ended up drilling a bigger opening in the main jet. I gave up with those cleaning files I keep misplacing them now I just peel off a plastic tie 🤣
My off-season is 3-4 months. I leave (ethanol-free) fuel in my equipment, and it cranks fine in the Spring. I have a simple push mower I bought for doing trim work. It has the same fuel tank and plastic carb as this mower. It ran when I got it, so I didn't tear anything apart. After using it for a while, I started getting problems with it randomly choking down. It would act like it was running out of fuel. I took apart the carb, and it was full of dirt and bad looking gas (even though I put fresh gas in the tank). I cleaned the carb, and put it back together. It ran the same... fine for a while, then chokes down. I emptied the carb again, it had small amounts of debris in it. As you know, it doesn't take much to clog the main jet on these. I emptied the fuel tank. It had trash in it. The in-tank screen looked intact, so I don't understand how the trash made it to the carb. The gas looked good, so I ran it through a coffee filter, then put it back in the tank, where I shook it around, and emptied it again. I did this about 8 times. The last two times, the gas came out clean. I ran a half tank of gas out the fuel outlet on the bottom of the tank, in case the fuel line had trash it it. No trash found. I put it all back together, and it runs fine now. That screen in the tank doesn't seem to work as well as a real fuel filter. My ZTR has fuel injection, two fuel pumps, and a fuel filter. The tanks have lots of trash in them, but none of that trash makes it past the filter. If I could get a decent filter to fit on my push mower, I'd install one.
I do leave fuel in during storage and used Stabil360 which has done an amazing job. My mowers but empty fuel in the chainsaws, tiller, weedwhackers and all is stored in a metal shed but cleaned from top to bottom. Also add 1/2 of clean fresh motor oil in the combustion chamber and turn the engine manually to lubricate piston and rings. Also clean but not sharpen the blade and coat it with clean fresh engine oil to prevent rusting.
Great work as always! One thing I’m adding to my check list is the flywheel key, you would not believe how many keys I have replaced this year already.. Good luck!
You did great. Left out the part about ragging out debris from the fuel tank a microfiber towel by turning it around repeatedly using angled pliers. That's the easiest way to do it.
Off topic. (I'm back) So I was going through my lawn equipment "collection" which is 2 Echo GT225 Trimmers. And a battery powered Stihl. One of the echos had fuel in it which was the canned fuel which was 50:1. It sat for two years since I haven't had time to work on them yet. The other day I pulled one of them out and it did something unexpected... I primed the system with the old fuel and it started on the first pull which was very weird. And it runs like it's brand new. Is TruFuel a super fuel?????
I'd say probably 80% of no-start mowers that come into my shop each spring have Briggs EX engines. Those are always a problem, I don't like them. I miss the good old Quantum engines.
I do not leave any gas in my mowers or riding mowers unless it’s 92 or high Octane or no ethanol and that’s what I use in my weed eater and blower as well
Looking at your subscriber count, I am amazed you don't have more subscribers. Another great video. Quick question, I have a leaky carb on one of my mowers. The leak was happening with my old carb and continued when I replaced it with a new one, except the new one leaks less. What are some of the diagnostic steps I can take to fix?
Since I'm not "in" the video, it makes it less personable, which would help out in the sub count. As for the carb question, Is the new carb, "brand new" or are you calling it new because it's a used one from a different engine? If It is, then I would return it, because you were unlucky enough to get a Leaky carb.
Hey bro what's up? I was wondering if the fuel in this mower was left in it during storage from your co worker? I usually don't leave any fuel in my equipment. Once I'm finished using my equipment and they still have some fuel in them, I will drain the remaining fuel and run the engine until it stop running and let it cool down before I clean it and let it dry before storing them away.
11-15 minutes videos takes me 40 Hours to produce. The means a 25 minute video would take make a lot longer and I'm not able to. I myself don't like watching long videos.

no problem and thank you for watching!

I have to agree with you. I used to fog, TDC, and stuff but I don't anymore
@@HomeGaragechannel Yep. I do use the best & freshest premix available as well. Or else high quality high grade that I mix myself.
I’ve been watching your videos so much I’m genuinely interested in a career of engine repairs
nice an thank you, hopefully it becomes a reality for you
Glad you got it running again for your coworker

how what kind of trash you mean or how it's getting there
wow I like your ZTR!
@@gtarules1 Mostly stuff a little larger than the size of grains of sand. Stuff that I thought would have been caught by the tank screen.
I ALWAYS drain/empty my fuel on my Honda HŔR. Then I run the engine until it stalls out. Newer mowers cost a lot to skip maintaining them. 👍
I like your technique

I use water and compressed to clean the tank. That typically done in a different area of the yard so I don't bother showing it.
Thank you for the video
Thank you Sir!
Nice repair…😊
Thanks 👍
I find these mowers really good and those Briggs and Stratton 500e engines are good engines
agreed
I run everything dry for the winter, never had a starting issue in all these years.
nice!
Do it every year with a conditioner and have had zero issues.
nice!
Those carbs are very easy to clean. I store my mowers with no fuel in them. It is easy to get fresh fuel for the mowers.
agreed
No five months too long for our gasoline 👍
3 months is max for me 😊
thank you!
What is the soapy solution you use and ratio? It does a great job of cleaning, thanks.
full concentration
@@HomeGaragechannel , full concentration of Simple Green or ? What do you use, thanks ?

it would seem that way!

Me too but I’m making more on the junk 😊
I hear what you're saying
What spray cleaner do you use to clean it? Looks like it does a fast and easy job. Thanks!
I use Super Heavy Duty Degreaser from Harbor Freight but I think it's the water sprayer that helps out too.

We just got 87 a couple of months ago and I was driving 80 miles one way to fill up 10 jugs
great choice
What would you recommend to my friends who never change the oil in their lawn mowers, but rather instead, add oil when the level gets low
nothing, it's their choice, so what I say will not change their mind.
Ive never had a problem using old gas, the gas weve been using is like a year or two old now
year old gas works fine in a lawn mower, 2 year old gas is pushing it.

hi...do you happen to know the part # for the screws for the carb?
for some reason all the diaphragms I find don't show the screws you're looking for

I believe the answer is yes, i think they did leave fuel in it
@@HomeGaragechannel wow! So unfortunate for that lawnmower bro
Ive had the same 10% ethanol fuel in my snow blower for 3 years at least and somehow it still starts 1st or 2nd pull lol

I haven't seen one that dirty before c'mon people change your filters geeez I
