Every school district should bring back shop classes, ‘home economics’ and business Ed. Giving students the real 3R’s…Relevance, Rigor and relationships!
Agreed. I am nearly 40 and still finacially illiterate and struggling with many "adulting" tasks because it was just assumed we would figure it out and not everyone does
Dude these kids need to learn about genders and how to use dildos not useful everyday skills to make well rounded adults with tools to navigate life. Pshhhh
Mike, truly enjoy the visibility and joyful education you bring to all these different projects. Heartfelt honest caring in the truest form. Keep up the great work.
Hey Mikey! This episode was a winner in oh so many ways. Fire in their soles and Steel in their resolve. Thank you for all that your team and you do. Mom and Chucky included. Happy Holidays and Cheers, Mate.
Absolutely a 5 ⭐️ story! Everybody needs a mentor and something to learn, and excel at, and to earn money with. I am so happy for them. And they can pay it forward by mentoring some young person who needs a bit of encouragement. May God continue to bless your efforts Sir.
Just a thought for Chad and the others running this wonderful program. It seems to me as though your graduates from the program are your future franchise owners. Let them take the lessons they learned in your program and grow it. They know first hand how valuable it is, and they can take that opportunity given to them and help other at risk kids. There's plenty of bad restaurants run by bad people, one with good food doing good for their community deserves to grow and prosper.
I taught history and government to kids like this and they were my favorite students. They came from downright deadly environments and had experienced and seen more trauma than people from what this country likes to think of as “normal,” an ideal which doesn’t exist, are likely to experience in a lifetime. I wanted them to learn standard English for jobs but to also celebrate their own dialects. Dialects are filled with poetry and the freedom it requires. So I alternated between the two when giving them writing assignments…the improvement in their writing as well their ability to alternate in their speech was impressive. What it seemed to me they needed most was recognition of their value both as human beings and for where they came from. Even seniors, who had been treated as less than by nearly all their teachers started to light up, to participate and to enjoy the classroom experience. The most important thing I learned about teaching is to walk into the classroom with the expectation that every student will succeed.
When the government chooses to strip away any sense of dignity, personal responsibility and pride from entire segments of society, people like Chad need to step up. God bless this man and those kids.
Top notch production for a life changing solution. Thank you Mike for bringing Cafe Momentum to people outside of the area who might never have become aware of this revolutionary program! Way to go Chad!!
The restaurant industry (outside the corporate world) has always been a place for people who have been on the "wrong side" of the injustice system. Glad to have done my part, too. Chad's the man!
As a Montessori teacher, we offer practical life skills even in preschool and kindergarten. We even have lessons for lighting candles for our kindergarten age children. When I get a student who has behavior issues, even as young as 3 years old, the best thing for that child is usually food work or ironing with a hot iron. Sometimes the children get a small cut or a little burn, but nothing serious - and you would be shocked how much these activities normalize a young child. Sometimes the children you would be least likely to offer these presentations to are the ones who need it the most and do the best for them. Each child is different, so you must make each decision individually for each child. The most important thing to remember is that children need real consequences- and they need it early in life. That’s why I use breakable items in my classroom. The glass breaks if they aren’t careful and that’s what creates spatial awareness, concentration and fine motor skills. These lessons that offer real consequences and real life application and contribution to community can start as young as toddler age. Stop giving sippy cups. They don’t break. They have no consequence if they throw them. Real materials. Real life. Real consequence.
Mike and Chad, y'all rock! Chad, you're a great man for doing this. This is how you help kids today. Give them something to do, learn, and grow into someone with ambition. Peace
This kind of program would also greatly benefit many kids who aren’t “in the system”, but who are nevertheless lost and aimless because the education system and/or parents have failed them. I hope more people in a position to create these kinds of businesses will do so.
Best video I have seen in decades! Gave me goosebumps watching those kids make something of themselves and how enthusiastic they are about thier lives and their futures. Chad is truly a modern hero. As a counselor I have helped many young people but this guy is a legend! Thank you Chad. The universe is smiling down upon you and giving you all the blessing you deserve.
It is Christmas Eve morning and this set the tone for the next two days. Thank you Chad for what you ARE doing and thank you Mike for show casing this for us. Merry Christmas to All!
Mike, thank you for sharing this great program. Great job Chad! And major cudos for the young people who have made it through and are making it through this great program.
That is what we need in every city and town, a place to help these kids to get & stay on the right path. I cringe every time i hear about another teenager going to jail or prison. Omg they are just kids 😢 doing horrible things. They shouldn't have gotten rid of shop class, home economics, etc. Its sad our kids don't get to experience those things. I learned a lot in home economics and shop class. Thanks for sharing this, i didn't know they had anything like it!!
This is one of the best stories I’ve ever seen and viewed I’ve watched Mike Rowe for decades, as I have grown up and all his shows, and this is the best thing that I’ve ever seen, so inspirational
Wow, what an amazing story! The world needs more Chad Houser's to turn this country around. Thanks Mike for sharing this wonderful story, it makes me believe in humanity. Today is Christmas day, and I know that Jesus must be blessing this amazing man, and these amazing youth. God bless all of them.
I was that one weird mechanic that didn't drink or smoke, till I opened my own garage. Then my lack of bad habits didn't seem so weird anymore because i was expected to be the responsible boss. I ran that 12 bay garage for 18 years. I trained 100s of young and middle aged men. Almost all were Excon's, Veterans & recovering drug addicts. Some of the best men to have at your side when your getting burnt bruised and bleeding all day every day. Work is good for a man. It makes you feel useful, helpful, powerful, & important. It shows you the evidence to prove that to yourself.
Now he invest in people & making a world a better place. We need more business to follow in his footsteps. Woundful job Chad, you should be proud of all the young folks you have helped changed their life for the good. So proud of these young adults & may they all keep moving forward in their life & becoming better & better in believing in theirselves & reach their full potential to adulthood & show everyone who doubted in them. You all should be proud of yourselves.
Every episode with Mike is a win-win. Viewers win by watching these videos on Mike channel. The subject of the videos wins by gaining exposure nationally and even worldwide. God bless Mike.
This should be in every city across the country. Since our schools are failing most of the students. 🙄 We need more Chads to help get these kids back on the right path. ❤️
The Army used to have its own version of this. Trainees learned how to tie ties, polish shoes, give a crap about their appearance, learn to shave, learn to sew patches on uniforms. They learned how to look people in the eye when talking to them. Speak clearly and with authority. Speak with respect. Politicians have tied the hands of trainers within the military so that they can’t train up respectable people. Someone who thought they were tough were often put in their place with an instructor who had physical strength and combatives training. Instructors took the role of mentor. Teaching the importance of bettering themselves. Learning new skills. Being the best they can be. Teaching them how to manage money. Your joined the Army and assimilated into the Army culture. Now the Army has catered to the civilian culture.
It’s a whole lot more than providing the classes, woodworking, home ec or a program like this! It takes adults who care, who are willing to take the time to invest themselves in these youth, to turn them around!
There are people all over the place doing positive things in society; getting these stories out does not seem to be a concern of the media. Here is a prime example, and thanks to Mr. Rowe for getting it out there.
What a great idea and a great story! This is how you successfully accomplish change in this nation. Hats off to Chad and to these young people that ultimately chose to turn their lives around. The world needs more of this!
This one had me crying. I live in a neighborhood that has many Black families, no hate, we are in it together. But I see the young kids in their teens standing at the crossroads of their lives. We don't have gangs in this area, and we aim to keep it that way. Still, you see how hard negative influence hits as opposed to positive. I think they think of me as that mean old grandmother, at first. But soon, they come around and we chat out by our picnic tables. Many just want some trust, encouragement and grandmother hugs. But I know they need so much more. What this is here, is genuinely next level. Why hasn't this been done before? Could it be the label's and preconceived ideas about who these young people are? Many get into the criminal life because the pay is better, the perks are more impressive and for the brotherhood feeling. If they were able to find prestige, self respect and the same kind of brotherhood (but without the getting murdered aspect) I believe most would go in that direction. Thank everyone involved with this mission. You are not only saving this generation you are also saving the next. ❤
Mike, just run for president already. We need all that you have spent most of your life learning and experiencing for all the people. You have done so much good in the world and I know you have so much more you can do. Just saying that you have my vote. Heck depending on the clowns, sorry candidates, that we have we could probably just have a national campaign to make you the write in for the corner job 😂.
What I see here is not unlike the transformation that takes place within a group of young men who go through military basic training. The goals of the organization are completely different but the result is similar. Young men become a responsible, disciplined team who take on es·prit de corps, which is pride in accomplishment as part of a team, and devotion to one another out of loyalty. Well done.
This isn’t just saving kids lives, it’s creating hundreds of new families with the freedom to do what they want to do with their lives. This is saving future generations.
Who here remembers working in the school cafeteria running the dish trays through the dishwasher ? That smell and humidity in that room was one of a kind. Early 1980’s.
Teaching kids some positive skills to take them through life, taking them camping and learning wilderness survival would greatly improve the lives of these kids that have been neglected in these large cities. Heck, the removal of shop class, home economics, woodshop from school has probably been a huge detriment to the self esteem of the disadvantaged youths.
This is great. Now, we have to think ahead to the kids who would not be accepted into this restaurant program…who could never be accepted into this restaurant program, and we have to figure out what to do with them…….because there’s a whole, whole bunch of them.
Mike, I am retired living on a fixed income from SSI. I have managed over the years to save $650 cash. I'm 66 years old and I am struggling with this. I want to give this money to someone to better their life, but I do not want it to go to someone who will use it to buy the latest crap. I want to give it to someone who will use it to improve themselves and become productive citizens. This is real. I am poor but I have all I need. I want to help someone worse off than me who truly needs the help, not someone who will look at it as a bonus to be spent on B.S. How do you know the difference?

Yes 💯
Can't all they want to do is make bowls for drugs and weapons

@richmiller9844 You didn't get the message. You are stereotyping an entire group of people based off of what a couple of them might do.
This is amazing!! Fire! This needs to be in every single city. The state, needs to make this possible for all our kids in every single city. Amazing !
I totally agree with you. We need to give these kids a way to change their future
i totally agree with you!
We need a whole bunch more of these restaurants and programs! Great job, all of you!
Mike, truly enjoy the visibility and joyful education you bring to all these different projects. Heartfelt honest caring in the truest form. Keep up the great work.
Every city needs this. Kids need a since of accomplishment and they will go far. Awesome!!!!❤❤❤❤
Mike is such a good man. We need more like him
Hey Mikey! This episode was a winner in oh so many ways.

Awesome story. Hats off to all involved.
Full propps to Chad for his hs work. He's a star Praise to the kids for all they've done !
Absolutely a 5 ⭐️ story!
Everybody needs a mentor and something to learn, and excel at, and to earn money with.
I am so happy for them. And they can pay it forward by mentoring some young person who needs a bit of encouragement.

This program is amazing! I've been in the food service industry my whole working life. I would love to help an establishment like this in my hometown!

Wonderful! This idea should stay in the private sector bc when the government gets involved they mess it up.
Top notch production for a life changing solution. Thank you Mike for bringing Cafe Momentum to people outside of the area who might never have become aware of this revolutionary program! Way to go Chad!!
Consistency, stability, and a swear jar. This was inspiring and miraculous. Thank you, Mike and Chad!

I worked Juvie before I worked Federal. It's a training ground for career criminals. The homes and parenting these kids come from are abysmal.
As are the 'homes' they are paroled to.
I wish everyone could see this important work. I can see this working for many different businesses and skills. Thanks for sharing this one Mike.

Chad is doing the "good work". Not all people can be changed, but when you lift someone up...they change for the better.
Is a great idea one that involves love, compassion trust, and purpose we all need that once in a while ♥️💯.
#Chadhouser, God Bless you, continue with what you are doing , this is an amazing

This is so cool I'm happy to see that goal being achieved, they are getting something most don't.
"elected" officials on both sides of the isle...KEEP BREAKING THE LAW...🤦♀️
Wow, this guy is innovative and intelligent with a big heart, I like this guy.....
Hearing these kids goals literally gave me chills. What an amazing program.
So positive Gods Blessings for each and every person who is in or has been in this program.
This program needs to be extended to every city in the country !
This is awesome
Congrats to Chad, he's a good man. ✌️😎💯 changing lives one day at a time.
The best one you've done...!
A simply reality that changes lives.
Show people that they matter and they will show you what they are made of.🤙
That is creating real change for and by young people, very powerful!!!!
One of the best ideas I've heard in 70 years!
What a BEAUTIFUL video with beautiful people!!!!❤❤❤
This is just a shining refreshing direction. I think this might actually help., Bravo. More of this is so needed.
Another Positive Story. Thanks Mike. Shine Light on the Positive!

Great program to help young people.
Absolutely beautiful episode, thanks Mike
God Bless this man and All he does !!
Mike your program and chads program combined can change the system.
This is what we need in this country. Work with the youth in America and give them skills and work ethic!
Brought tears to my eyes. ❤

Thank you for sharing
Love you Mike!!!
Love ❤️ you all God bless
Excellent program !
Purpose is a powerful motivation.
This isn’t just saving kids lives, it’s creating hundreds of new families with the freedom to do what they want to do with their lives. This is saving future generations.
Keep it real Mike. You are a man in a Hollywood world.
Let’s gooo!!! This is awesome.❤
Who here remembers working in the school cafeteria running the dish trays through the dishwasher ? That smell and humidity in that room was one of a kind. Early 1980’s.
Imagine my delight when I saw his name. I believe I went to HS with Chad. AHS. Good work, Chad!
This is great.
Great stuff!
I'm 62 years old, and work with a guy I was in high school wood shop with! We make high dollar custom cabinets and furniture! I make a great living!
When I heard "8 years" and "over a thousand" I was shocked. That's 125 kids, AT LEAST, a year getting helped. What a thing. Incredible.
I stand with Chad is such a catchy line. This definitely is a great solution but can it scale will become the challenge
Beautifully done. Thank you for sharing that story.
Awesome
This is what I am talking about bless this mans heart. Job well done 🙋💃👋🇺🇲🇯🇲💞
Thanks Mike ❤❤❤
Mike, I’d like to see you interview Dan Vasc, a self made man, and oh what a singer! He is so inspiring ! Just a thought
Homeboy Industries (Los Angeles) started this kinda thing in '92
I get very frustrated with dumb kids. Thank god there is someone like Chad that has the patience and understanding I wish I had. Well done Chad! I wish we had a million more like you.
Paying it forward - the smart way.
Great stuff
Great story, great results!
Fantastic!
Well done!
Chad...I love you!!!!
