My wife and I were dining out in New Orleans, when she got an odd look on her face and said quietly, "Johnny Joey Jones is sitting right behind you." I didn't want to interrupt his evening out, but casually looked over my shoulder and he was right there. He left the table a few minutes later (Yes, he walked away with no assistance, but with a bit of a limp.) and when he returned, I waited until he sat down and took the opportunity to thank him for his service and his sacrifice. His response was that it was his honor and privilege. Imagine after what he'd gone through to still consider it a privilege to have served his country. He was there for his wife's birthday party with family and friends. We introduced ourselves and spouses and after just a few moments of chit chat we both finished our meals and went our separate ways. He was truly a gentleman, a nice guy and obviously, a patriot.

I'm not EOD but in my former job capacity (Army) I traveled to the EOD school to see what they do and how they train. Huge appreciation for what these brave men and women do day in and day out in the homeland and on the battlefield! Something for Mike to consider, "Every year, on the first Saturday in May, the EOD Memorial Ceremony is held to commemorate fallen EOD technicians to recognize and preserve the legacy of the service and sacrifices of our fallen warriors and their families." Thanks Johnny Joey Jones for your inspirational words, service, and sacrifice.

Mike, thank you for the truly amazing privilege of watching this interview. I have been a JJJ fan for several years, but I now have new, deep respect and gratitude for Joey, his service and his sacrifice. His humble character, his love of his brothers and sisters and his unwavering humor stand as a lesson to us all. I am 71 years young and I long for the times when my patriotism and love of this country were much more commonplace. We can have disagreements, we can be of different races, etc, but we are Americans above all else, and Joey reminds us of how blessed we are. Thanks again for this interview. Currently reading and enjoying The Way I Heard It.

I agree with you whole heartedly. I'm younger than you (only 70). I joined the Navy as a lost soul looking for a place to matter when others were finding ways to avoid the draft. Even way back then I tried to explain to people how great our nation is, at least at that time. Having walked the streets of Italy and seeing hammer and sickle painted on the walls and not feeling real safe, it made me love our country even more. I realize there are + and - to a professional military, but in may ways I feel a real disservice was done to generations when the draft was abolished.

Thanks to both commentators, and Joey. For your service, sacrifice, honor, and integrity.
And I too, long for the days when school kids were proudly saying the Pledge of Allegiance, with their hands over heart, facing an American Flag, being held out by the teacher. When we were passing down the value of our unique nation's specialty in the world.

Mike that is one of the best shows I have seen on your show. That’s the kind of media or show that instills in me. I will remember that show because I have family members that served in the Marines. They also have been through similar events serving both Iraq and afghan war. One of our family members became a drug addicted and ended up in prison. He was released from prison and became a Christian and followed the lord. He now is couple semester from receiving his Master degree in physiology. He is helping veterans with help and helping all sorts of people now with PDST, not sure what the acronym is, but his making a difference. He has appeared on the Today show and continues to do speeches throughout the USA. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for your service, sir. My cousin's husband, Donald Coats, served 28 years in the Air Force and served in Vietnam. He died on Veteran's Day 7 years ago. My church had an evangelist by the name of Tim Lee to preach a revival several times. On his last day in Vietnam he volunteered to do the mine sweep and lost both of his legs. Brother Tim asked God that if he'd let him live he would serve the Lord the rest of his life and he has. Many souls have been saved.

I have so many friends who are not the same after serving in Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan, I myself have felt very guilty for not signing up to be with many of them to serve our nation.... And here we are again, 30 years later, involved in another conflict that has all the earmarks of why we were there in the early 90's.... yet this one, has a broader significance, it's going global and it is frightening.

This guy is a favorite of mine when he is on Fox. I see some of the people hired by other networks and they shouldn’t even stand in the shadow of Johnny. He represents our military at the highest level although I am not sure how many so called in charge people do.

I am at a loss for words.
Where does America find these guys?
Does America (these days) deserve such heroes?
“Ignorance isn’t just bliss, its paid for in blood”. Truer words have never been spoken.... A truly profound observation....

I respect his candor in analytically explaining both what he experienced, & how he took responsibly of the situation, where he weighs the wellfare of those around him, even when he's in such a dire state himself. That is amazing to me.
To this courageous Marine I say Oorah! You are an example of the strength & courage, of those men & women, who selflessly defend everything we hold dear. Thank you for your service, & godspead in all of your endeavors.

We need more men like you two gentlemen. Props to Joey, such an amazing outlook on life and a special person. Never had any experience with EOD and especially no knowledge of IED's as I served in the Army in the early 80's. But even as a dumb Grunt I figured out the most important thing concerning explosives. If you see the Bomb Tech running, try and keep up. The world is a better place because of ya'll.

As a bilateral leg amputee myself, I've spread this mans messages and story everywhere I can. My amps were from severe burns and I may not ever walk in prosthetics but people like Joey give me hope/motivation to not give up, and, I hope everyone gets something from this mans messages. I also shouldve died in the wreck I was in. It broke about 3 dozen bones, left lung collasped, dislocated several major joints, shattered my pelvis, 3rd degree burns on 50% of my body, had my legs and manhood amputated from the burns, etc. Never give up!

I was a Marine EOD Tech too. I just pray I would have had the same strength and positive attitude this Brother Marine has, if that same thing happened to me. God bless you always Brother. Semper Fi.
