      Thank u for commenting. I was wondering how long before you seen the video. I’ve never posted a video where the owner of the phone doesn’t recognize it pretty quick. Please let me know if it gives you any trouble. It should run good.

      You're welcome! I did recognize the video immediately when I was in Greece for holidays the past 10 days, and I enjoyed it :). Unfortunately I had some problems with placing a comment on the video, with my phone.. So I thought, I will post a comment at it when I’m back in The Netherlands, with my laptop ;). At this moment i'm still waiting to receive the phone! I think it will arrive soon.

      @@ststele Before you "seen" the video? And "run good?" Despite that, you are a damn genius, and tech god. I assume a repair like this would cost a fortune... And I would like to know what it costs. I mean why not just buy a new one? (Priceless photos and videos I understand, but this phone was second hand.)

    Hi . This is a great video. In the past I have given you grief but now I take it all back ( sorry :-( ) . I have watched a number of iphone fix videos and yours are up there with the best. I have an XR that I have done some work on but the last issue I have it that it wont start, its drawing around 0.1 A @ 4V ( when on a DC power supply ) and just sitting there. I know that high ampage is an indication of a short but I am not sure about the indication of a low ampage and what tests I should start to perform ( but I am sure I will crack this in time ). I am a hobbyist and enjoy bringing these smashed devices back to life. :-)

    • @ststele
      @ststele  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks :) I wonder if when the board is powered on and drawing 0.1a (100mA), if it would be detected by a computer? I see them pretty often stuck in DFU mode. 100mA could be that.

    Sometimes you need to leave it to the experts. I have a iPhone 6 Plus that Jason fixed a while ago. I went to replace my battery, sorted out all the screws correctly when taking it apart and was thanking Jason for all these great videos. I left the room for a moment, and came back realizing that my dog’s big ass tail hit the screw separator and they went everywhere. Glad it was Prime Days as I bought a new screw set and a magnifier. Hopefully I can get it back together and not do LSD. FML!!

The 6 Plus you worked on 2 years ago for touch disease is still up and running.

    15 Jan 2020 and you were on Paul Daniels channel. He suggested we take a look at yours, you posted a link so I came and looked. What I know about soLdering and iPhone/Mac repairs would fit onto the head of an electron printed in a LARGE font but even I can recognise that you got serious skills. Very impressive Jason.
    In case you read this, with the dribbling of the flux round the split PCB, would a flux pen do a better job or would it drag on the soLder balls too much? As I said, I know *nothing* but BigClive uses one (I know, totally different environment) but curiosity killed the K1W1, satisfaction brought me back. Thanks for the show (and I clicked Subscribe :) Look forward to watching more.

    Thank you for popping it into the ultrasonic cleaner before sending it off. That's the first thing I look at on a PCB is if the manufacturer (or repair technician) even bothered to clean off the flux - good indication of the kind of workmanship you're dealing with. I'm still undecided on not replacing that cap you ripped off though, I know you have your reasons but the engineers didn't put it there for fun, it does serve a purpose :) Anyways great talent you have!

    Hey Jason was wondering if you ever experience neck and back pain from using the microscope? And if any suggestions on remedying such issues? Also what microscope do you use? Apologies if you’ve already made a video about it or mentioned it before

    • @ststele
      @ststele  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This has recently become a pretty big problem. As the repairs have gotten more difficult and with lower success rates, I’ve been spending a lot more hours at the bench and being less active when away from the bench. I’ve had a neck ache for months and it doesn’t really go away, it just moves around to different areas.
      To help combat my neck aches, I’ve gotten rid of no-fix/no-fee and also added an additional charge for prior repair attempts. I’m starting to be more active again and will be having more time to get away from the bench. So far, having a bench fee doesn’t seem to have slowed down new repairs. I just get dumped on so very often, I have to charge a fee. Recently, I had almost an entire month of no-fixes due to where I get most of my customers. I feel so very much better now that I’m not giving away so much time. Maybe my neck ache will go away? :-)

    Hey Jason! As always, I am enjoying your videos since a long time and was happy to see you again on stage with this video. For me, as living in Germany it's weird that a EU customer sends a device for a board level repair to the USA. So, shipping is not cheap...what was the repair price at the end of your work?
    However, go on with your great work, your fantastic humor, and sympathetic character.
    Best regards,
    Tolga

    • @ststele
      @ststele  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks for the compliments. Return shipping to the Netherlands is $24.50 at our cheapest rate. We normally charge $150~$250 for iPhone X repairs. This one wound up being $150 + $46 (upgraded shipping +insurance). Also, in some countries, they make the customer pay import fees before they can get their phone back. We try to make it clear that we're only returning their phone to them tho in hopes that they don't have to pay taxes as if they purchased the phone.

    • @ststele
      @ststele  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's $24.50 if it is a whole phone (over 8oz~16oz) or $15 for logic board only (less than 8oz).

    • @ststele
      @ststele  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The alloy on most metal shields should melt considerably lower than what is used to solder on the components. Unless it's the upper/lower shield on an iPhone 6~6s+ (that covers baseband CPU). Those need a ridiculous amount of heat and is easy to accidentally nudge components around.

    How's the shopping for a retail location going?

    • @ststele
      @ststele  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have decided to put it off until the end of July at the earliest and not let it spoil summer. Also, with some re-structuring and other changes, we may not open a traditional "shop". We will see. I'll be doing an announcement video when we're ready tho.

    What heppens if a lot of capacitors are missing from board

    • @ststele
      @ststele  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It really depends on the purpose of the caps. On VDD_MAIN there are a lot of them. By removing one, we have very slightly narrowed the operating window but not enough to make any difference. If we removed a bunch of them, the phone would eventually become unstable and likely do all sorts of goofy things. I've never tried tho :)
