Always good to see an STS video. Classiest guy in the biz. And what an absolute madlad for puting that shield back on before the big test. The man the myth the legend
Hey Jason, missed your vids, glad you are back. Love the work and commentary and your mentoring attitude towards all repairs. It would be great if there were more repairers of your ilk about. Keep up the tremendous work and vids. Have a great day.
It´s thanks to people like you that i am able to do a lot of the things i do for my clients and that allows me to support my family. It´s such a good feeling when i see the beguining of the video and i feel that i can fix that, before knowing what the problem is, and it´s all thanks to you. Recently i fixed an iPhone SE 2020 with touch disease becouse your video. Amazing. Thank You. 🙏💪
Hey, thank you! This is really good to know and nice read this afternoon while working on difficult jobs. I really appreciate you watching & taking the time to write it - it sure helps me to keep posting! 🙏 😊
Mr. STS, please continue saying "Come one, Baby!" in your videos whenever you do. I miss that. (Also sorry I don't remember your name, so I'll call you Mr. STS)
What a great repair and the camera angles are so good! Thanks for all you do Jason. I am sure this little video took quite some time to video and edit together but it sure does show. Great work!
Good coment, i was actually about to ask you if you can some day, to make a video explain what cameras you use and how you used them like positioning and stuff, i´m thinking about starting making some videos, and i strugle a lot to figure it out how shoud i do it.
You are so much more fun to watch than some of those other phone repair guys. Anyway would it be a good idea for a video that describes what all it would take for somebody to get into phone repair from the ground up. Thanks for the great content!
Nice Catch!!..... cheap thermo camera are game changers on component level repairs.... Not like the old days using freeze spray or the back of your finger!! 🙂
I like the *disclaimer that 200c is your air temp NOT the board temp!! haha Nice! Edit: Nice work, very smooth. I do enjoy the "Maybe I shoulda tested it before I put it back together." Suits you perfectly, you know exactly what you're doing and exactly what was up with that 7 short, as you do.. really, good job! Too bad all techs aren't as savvy and sharp as you. It almost seems like guys with the passion learn the trade then hate their lives afterwards.. glad you don't! (at least not on camera! haha)
Love your videos. Your personal, comedic style is very enjoyable. Now, a question; isn’t there a concern that low-melt solder will be too brittle and cause a cracked solder joint? I believe that I heard you state you were re-installing the cap with low-melt.
Good morning! I appreciate the compliments 🙏. The low melt I used here isn't too brittle for this sort of work but I definitely wouldn't use it to solder connectors or anything that needs to hold up to a lot of stress. This is the solder Apple uses to join boards together from iPhone 10 to 11. Now the lowest of the low melt solders is so brittle that it can break just from looking at it wrong lol! I wouldnt use that stuff for any useful work other than removing components!
@@ststele Understood. Thank you for the clarification. I was curious as to why you kept mentioning that it was 180°. I was not aware there were different specifications of low-melt solder.
That comment was from a scammer. Please don’t reply to anyone pretending to be STS. I’m reporting them as fast as I can. This is what a reply from me looks like. Also, thank you for commenting :-)
hello again lol its been a week but well worth it lol your still stuck in time should be doing the 15 pro max but the 7 lol i know i should not laugh lol but the 7 really lol.😁
Very good and detailed content as always. Thank you. Still I don't know what you really like about this thermal camera, but is is just terrible. Very low picture quality and lack of micro lance to be able to see the components clearly.
curious - with such a small simple component, wouldn't it be easier to just use the solder pencil on top of the capacitor component instead of the hot air (chance of heating the side components and/or blowing the near components away with the air? I don't have any hot air or smd component usage experience (and from the looks of things - don't want to), so I'm interested in your thinking on the choice of heating device for this.
Fact the phone will completely fine without that cap and the people who complaint about that don't even have a clue about electronic Btw I like the way you remove the cap with no heat👍
Hello and thank you for your sharing, could you explain to me the fact of putting the red probe on GND and the black on the positive power supply to find the short circuit ? Thank you so much !
hello sir ,please help me, where can I buy the small thing that you replaced, I want to buy more, especially for samsung, huawei, etc., where can I find something like this? i want especially for a huawei p30 motherboard to replace one thing like this i found almost burnt., thank u!
These are often visibly cracked after the phone is dropped so I think physical impact is to blame a lot of the time. I'm sure they fail at random too though!
Iggy I will try to make this short and to the point. I was doing a deep format on one of my SD cards. As my desktop was doing that it would not let me type a note or do a reply to someone in my email. I have noticed this before. Hi jason i have got 8 plus with no image I checked all the doide readings on display connector Those seems ok I have got board view and also i checked the reading with another known good board Readings are same I'm unable to find the fault Can you light me up with something Ps: phone was on charging when it lost image Back light is there phone boot proper but without image
I would hope this is something with the image power circuit still. Maybe something that isn't detectable at the connector in diode mode though such as, C5600 (CHESTNUT_CN) or possibly something going on with the CHESTNUT_LX coil. If diode mode readings are good, it may be necessary to get the board powered up with a display connected (very important) and then check the voltages going to the connector - mainly the 5v7 lines. Hopefully this helps!

The solder ball by the capacitor itself should be a big sign I think Jason
Yah, always nice when they stick out like that!
as simple as it may get....good video

What do you think is the failure mode? Over voltage? Mechanical Stress? A crap quality capacitor?
These are often visibly cracked after the phone is dropped so I think physical impact is to blame a lot of the time. I'm sure they fail at random too though!
Hi Jason . What is the osciloscope shunt like plugin you are using for "blip blip " readings of the consumption in the begining ? Is it a DIY shunt ?
This is one that I got from Union Repair some years ago. Unfortunately it looks like they no longer sell it or an equivalent model.
How much does a job like this cost?
Couldn't you do a resistance check on the bad cap and get 0.00 ohms to pretty much say it was that one?
All capacitors on the same power rail (and there are plenty) will show a near identical resistance until the failed component is removed.
Iggy I will try to make this short and to the point.
