Vancouver Island MUST DO's: Ucluelet & The Wild Pacific Trail

- Today we will take you to the beautiful town of Ucluelet, on Vancouver Island's rugged West Coast, where we will take you on a hike along the stunning Wild Pacific Trail.
The Wild Pacific Trail is truly a Must Do for everyone visiting Vancouver Island's West Coast, no matter if you are staying in Ucluelet, or the neighboring town of Tofino.
We will not be camping this time around, as we will be staying in our friends' B'n'B cottage and celebrate Michelle's birthday.

As someone who worked in the Coast Guard, I had the privilege of being stationed beside the lighthouse where the Traffic Centre was located. I spent 23 years there, and I truly miss it. It was either going into the ocean or into the trees. In the end it was just hovering above us, but we could not hear the drone, because of the waves.

Another wonderful video. I have visited Ucluelet and Torfino several times over the years and seen the area in all weathers. Great storm watching on a visit in December some years ago. Happy belated birthday Michelle.

@@backroadjournals Grew up in a military family, so got posted quite a bit, but the biggest portion of my life has been spent here in NS. Lived out in BC from 1985 to 1991. Really enjoyed those years and spent most weekends exploring in the mountains along with a few trips to the Island every year.

We had the good fortune of being at Amphitrite Point during a storm a number of years ago. The waves were absolutely spectacular.
We've been to Ukey a couple of times but never in the sunshine. I've heard the locals sometime refer to the month of August as Fogest.
Storm Season was our favorite time of year when we were living out there. We were living there when we had the big hurricane force winds with 60+ foot waves, Christmas of 2019. It was wild 👍!
And Yes... August is Fogust 🙂.

Holger was able to eventually land the drone, because I found it hovering just above us 😂, but it was a close call. We could not hear the drone either, because of the waves rolling in below.

Happy birthday, Michelle. Those were some stunning ocean views. I loved the drone shots. I would have been nervous with those on-shore winds. The top-down views were captivating and the slo-mo segments worked really well. I just had a similar drone incident this week, not my finest hour, but I know how you must have felt! Loved the history narration as well. One of my favourite videos of yours to date. 👍👍👍
Thank You! Glad you enjoyed the video👍. It was actually one of the more challenging videos to put together so far, as there are a lot of different parts to it. There is also a lot more to the history than we were able to fit into the video. Maybe we'll get to that another time🙂
As it turned out, the drone was just about right above us, but we couldn't hear it because of the waves 🙂.

We also have felt the pain of loosing a drone but ours crashed in a tree ( the end lol ) never a good feeling. My drone once wanted to land in the Ocean😱 Luckily I was watching it like a hawk and saw it start to descent and was able to get it to pull up. Scary stuff!

I am Holger's spotter when he's flying the drone, he always loses it somewhere and I have to find it 😂. In this case it was either going to end up in the trees or in the ocean . I should have filmed him while he was panicking, would have made for good content😂.

With it hitting the trees, at least there is a chance at recovery. The Ocean would be certain doom😱
We'll need to meet up when the weather is nicer. I'm getting tied of getting rained on out there⛈⛈I got utterly soaked last weekend and yesterday a little bit wet out there. Today so far looks horrible and I'm not sure I'll venture out...we'll see.
I want to make some trips up that way.
Been there, done that, and it was amazing. They say ucluelet is Tofino’s ugly sister. Lol

im getting married in june in Canmore, my fiance and I are roadtripping out there from Ontario. I've been trying to convince her that we should go the extra distance and visit Vancouver island! it looks so nice out there! but were going to be strapped for time so well see what happens!
I would really recommend it if you have the time to do it👍. Make it an extended Honeymoon trip 🙂.
