Brian -Thanks for posting. If you find a Kali (Filipino Martial Arts)teacher/class you could combine the footwork and drills of Kali to vastly improve your skill with a hawk!

I've been practicing with a tomahawk in my right hand and a sapper shovel in my off hand to parry. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Very nice, like how you explained the illustration. That looked very well illustrated. I should buy it, but I'm still wishing I hadn't paid $70 for a book on cane fighting by a school administrator. I did just invest $300 into Tomahawks though, and I been repairing and throwing my old ones and practicing in the forest with them and my cane and my knifes. One knife I like to use with tomahawks is the Cold Steel Double Agent I. It's small, but provides double rings and is worn like brass knuckles. The rings keep the very thin, lightweight knife in my hand while I fight a Tomahawk in each hand, or I I can switch off hands and go two handed with long handled Hawks such as the 22" Cold Steel, or even the big CRKT Woods Chogan. I got a nice collection starting up, including a small Jenny Wren.
