  • Krik of Black Owl Outdoors introduces you to the Patriot, a small full tang EDC fixed blade knife made by L.T. Wright Handcrafted Knives. We were sent this knife by L.T himself and asked to have a look at it. After weeks of use and carry, both Krik and stony agree that this knife is great! So much so that we plan to give this knife away in an upcoming giveaway, and have another on the way with a custom sheath setup. Stay tuned for more updates on this knife as well as a giveaway you won't want to miss.

    Nice. I like the full flat grind. Thanks for sharing!

    Nice vid. I recently started using a small fixed blade as my EDC. I am enjoying the heck out of it. I carry mine in my front pocket. I like no moving parts, much easier to maintain and the handle is so much more comfortable.

    Just ordered one with the green micarta, saber grind and the kydex sheath.

    Good vid., Kirk. I've just sub'd.
    I've been carrying one of these for some time and it's an excellent EDC fixed blade. The Patriot does dozens of everyday jobs; the more you wear it the more useful it becomes. Yes, it's a little more expensive than similarly sized knives but with this blade you've got a genuine hand-crafted knife that is a tougher than nails and is made to last your lifetime. What the vid. can't show is the outstanding fit and finish with this, and all of LT's knives.
    With the Aussie dollar down the drain I pay over the odds for LT's knives but I don't care. Most of the so-called custom knife market in the States is way out of my price range.
    The Patriot is easy to care for and with a bit of regular honing it keeps it's near surgical sharpness for a long time. As for the spine, it's got to be the sharpest and most useful spine grind I've ever used.
    Thanks for the review.
    Cheers,
    Bill

    L.T. Wright does some very nice work. I really like the size of this knife. I've never carried a fixed blade for EDC but I can see how this one would be great.

    I have yet to own an L.T. Wright knife but they have been very tempting as they have great feedback and are INSANELY reasonably priced compared to others.

    Almost reminds me of the gordo buckaroo fixed blade only the gordo buckaroo comes with an outstanding horizontal carry sheath that allows bending y riding without being intrusive.

    I have EDC'd the L.T. Wright Small Workhorse with the kydex sheath option, and loved it. You can get a full four finger grip on the handle, but it's a little slick. Otherwise a great EDC fixed blade. I have also carried a Bradford Knives Guardian 3. It's a three to three and a half grip like the Patriot, but fairly thick for such a small blade, making it easy to use. It comes with a horizontal leather sheath that I really like, but has a kydex option as well. I'm trying out the GSO 3.5 right now, and loving it. The kydex sheath that it comes with does ride a little high, so I may get a leather sheath to drop it lower. Oh yean, I can't forget the Bark River Bravo Micro. Didn't like it. A two finger grip is just too small for me. Yes, I'm on the hunt for a fixed blade EDC to replace my many folders.

    Nice demo. I am putting one of these on my list of things to get. I wish I could get feather sticks like that. I just let them fall on a pouch flap or jacket, or a large piece of bark. It is also nice to see someone put out a fire properly.

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lil Mike Your knife needs to be pretty sharp in order to control feather sticks. And then it's just practice and knife control. Are you able to keep your knives very sharp? -Krik

    i would love to see how this knife stacks up to my favorite edc fixed blade, the esee izula. obviously, they are very different in looks, but they should be similar in function. i carry stripped izula and i love that knife for most finer tasks, but the patriot immediately caught my eye as a beautiful small fixed blade. any chance you guys could compare the two knives?

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      cap10random We may do a video on that. The Patriot's handle is pretty thin on this model. After scales were added to the Izula, the knife was so much more comfortable. And definitely more comfortable than the patriot with the bone scales. But we have a new Patriot with micarta scales that mare much thicker than the bone. Stay tuned for that video. -Krik

    I prefer to Edc a small fixed blade. I carry a tops msk 2.5. But for $90.00 that knife is certainly one to consider.

    • @adloney
      @adloney 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Msk 2.5 comes with a kydex sheath. So I made two para cord loops that I put in the bottom grommets. And I just run it through my belt loop. It hold it great and when I want it to be more secure I put the knife handle in my pocket. Works great and doesn't feel any different then having a folder in my pocket.

    Why are wilderness knives so expensive?

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CraftyWott Depends who (what company) is making them. These are more expensive because they're from a small(er) company. Generally, the smaller the company, the more expensive the product.

    • @timstanks9192
      @timstanks9192 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say l t wright knives are actually very inexpensive compared to their competition. quality of the grind shows the higher level of craftsmanship.

    Well made and PRETTY too ! The sheath could be smaller, as in more handle sticking out 9/10 package

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the knife and handle are so thin, it's sort of tricky to get great retention from thicker leather. There is a kydex sheath for the Patriot. We have a custom order in to have a cross draw kydex sheath made. Stay tuned for that vid. -Krik

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      So for me, having the knife deep in the sheath makes sense - for safety's sake.

      D2 steel is expensive

    • @Skylabersean
      @Skylabersean 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally not worth for such small fix blade, I have Buck 110 and Alpha Hunter with S30V steel. They are much cheaper, easier to carry, better rust resistance, and same durable performance.

    • @hollywoodhefner2
      @hollywoodhefner2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Skylaber guess which one retains more of its value down the line. It's $75 for a hand made tool that looks as good as it cuts and comes with a LIFETIME warranty.

      @prairiefirewildernessskills 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a similarly sized knife from L.T., that being the Great Plainsman. The D2 steel is super strong, rust resistant, and the edge retention is going to outlast and outshine the Buck 110. Give me an L.T. Wright knife any day over any other brand.

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adrian Griffin i'm not krik would be up to use this knife for a task that would take as much time as a spoon would to complete. the knife does well at carving, but it is not designed or really intended for continuous prolonged use like carving a spoon. it would be more fruitful and efficient to use a knife with a full sized handle. we do have some videos planned that are carving based. stay tuned! - stony
