  • In this video, i got the top end put back together, after a slight issue I learned about regarding early year 650cc motors. Just a little issue with the last bolt I have to get into the head. But I hope to have it running this weekend. Next weekend it will be in the water.

Love your videos. I came back because I knew you listed the part for those stupid 23mm wrist pin bearings in one of your videos. It's not well documented anywhere. Thanks again!

I had the same issue with my jug gaskets not staying in, I had to put them in, put something heavy on over night, then it was fine and stayed put

If you have a gasket or any rubber piece that is stretched and needs to be smaller if you bring a pot of water to a boil and put the rubber o ring or what ever and then take it out it will slightly shrinken it if it needs to be smaller replete the proses it works

The reason why the bolt broke is because you torqued them at 18 ft lbs. The cylinders are supposed to be torqued at 15 foot lbs and the Cylinder cover only 7 foot lbs not 18. big difference.

They made 2 657's a regular and a hi hp version called the 657x with i believe 80hp. Cageless bearings last longer and dissipate heat better due to the simple fact that more bearings are better than less. Pur race engine's reguire cageless because thats the first place it will sieze when extended wide open throttle runs

I have a 95 seadoo 657x gtx what bearing does mine take ?

absolutely false!! loose needles cause more friction at high rpm. all the top outboard racing shops, and rebuild shops including mine, use caged bearings. also alot easier to install.

snapped 2 head bolts, turns out that i did not completely clean out the factory thread lock and the bolts had no room for any more torqueing... both jugs are at the doctors getting them removed... so bummed

You never showed me how to get the pistons to slide into the chamber with the rings needing to be compressed. How do you do that?

  • @arthursharrard

How did you get the o rings around the top of each cylinder to go into the grooves? I have a brand new top end gasket set and those ones seem way too small. I can get them into the grooves about 2/3 of the way then the rest will not stretch and stay in the grooves!!

Your timing of this motor is set by the rotary valve which is on the side you need to put the rotary plate on you need a timing wheel then put the front cylinder at TDC and look in the book at what degree that motor should set at I think you're in way over your head on this one

What Manual do you recommend that covers all the above: top and bottom of motor, carb, pump, exhaust, impellor etc. Also the best place to get the book?

This guys a complete hack. Don’t ever, EVER take advice from anyone who’ll use permatex in place of a gasket and then leaves a broken off head bolt and says “good enough it’ll be ok”! . Jeezus h Christ. If you insist on building an engine yourself you can get the service manual from any seadoo dealership or order it online. Good luck 👍

I have the same problem with my 1997 challenger 1800. If you would like to rebuild another I'd be more than willing to pay. If you are interested I can give you my number. I don't know much about engines I just took a real nice boat off someone's hands hoping to make a profit.

those cylinders looked awful for a complete rebuild! why not just spend $100 and have them bored and honed they are all out atleast .002'' anyway!

Next time cut the rubber gaskets and use sealer where it meets after you cut it to length
